Matheus Cunha

Quality player, but not the dream option. Depends on price. My top choice for that left #10 would be kvara, but if not him then yeah Cunha would be class. Hard worker, brilliant on the ball with carrying, creating and being a goal threat.

Best player on the pitch. Skipped past our players with ease and some lovely passes to set up attacks. Scored... Probably meant to cross it but still counts.

Had 2 shots and both were on target. For that alone hes better than our players.
That's not hard to do with our current crop and its been going on for years. Even Jon jo shelvy would make mugs out of this lot.

The question is why didn't we sign him when we had the chance? We were heavily linked with him in the Summer of 2022.

Because he was a failed Atletico Madrid signing at the time. Why would Manchester United sign that player? He had to take a step backwards to take a step forward in the future.

So you are comparing the two?

Playing for Wolves = playing for United.

Interesting take.
Nobody said anything of the sort. You did however say hes free and without pressure. He's obviously not. He's very expensive for a Wolves signing and they are struggling. If they go down people will be looking at him

Of course he will have some pressure being a premier league player, don’t take everything so literal.

The point I was making is the difference in pressure between Wolves and United. Also one thing is for sure, if Wolves go down he ain’t going with them.

He’s a player that will level up when he makes his next move to a big team
Yup and he seems to be improving every year too. Last season he was running through our team on the opening night at OT but had a questionable final ball and shot. He looks even better now and is both a playmaker and goal scorer. Anyone calling him average is not paying attention.

If they go down wont you hold it against him? 50 million on him and he couldnt keep them up

Should have sealed him years ago, now even if we managed to he’d cost us double. It’s frustrating.
Wolves paid a shit ton and Mendes had his paws all over it. Plus, he'd not really played up front in Germany I don't think and had a terrible goal return. Only scored about 6 in 40 at Atletico as well. I'm fact, it's only really part of last season and this one that he's started to score a decent amount

I also really think that a part of why he looks so good is Wolves sit deep and counter. He would have been great under Ole and EtH though

That and he isnt playing up front. He was when they signed him, but now he plays as an attacking midfielder who can come deep and do a nice turn or a simple give and go and get Wolves attacking from there. When he was playing as a striker he had to wait for the ball and the goals werent coming.

I wouldn't really expect him to carry on with the numbers he's putting up. He's on 10 goals from about 4xG, which is usually a good indicator that he'll drop off soon. But there's plenty to his game besides that he'll still be a good player for whoever signs him.

Any player that we buy ends up as ordinary or shit. I don't think United should buy any players who is good in a system. As soon as they come to United, they become shit. United should just buy shit players or promote youth players maybe instead of being shit, they will become great.

Because it's going to be a big investment, he's a prem proven player who will cost 50m + so it's a big outlay for someone who hasn't played at a top level.

This is the footballing equivalent of bro science.

Me personally? No I wouldn't.

I think the fact he is getting praised and Wolves are 17th kinda supports what I was getting at, in that you can have a few decent performances down at the bottom of the table and still get rave reviews.

Whereas at United we have trophy winners get abused 24/7.

So you think he scored 10 goals and got 4 assists in a few decent performances?

What do you think of Saka's performances? He's got 1 more (5 goals, 10 assists)?

Just a few decent performances?

He get's praised because statistically he's one of the best forwards in the league despite playing with mediocre team mates.

He makes more dribbles/key passes/chances created and is way ahead of almost every United forward player in every metric.

Sorry Ekeke I need to remember you are very literal. Try to take in the full post, it will help me out.

Yes half a season is not enough for me to get onboard, call it a few decent games, a purple patch, a good 6 months...plenty of players have those and every season you can find them in the league. Doesn't mean they are ready for the jump to playing for United.

Also United need to start finding these players before they make the move to the Prem, especially ones that move for big fees.

A big money move to United after scoring 10 goals in the league? I say No.

That's not how top clubs work, even United at the time. They don't look at narratives like "xy reject" and use that as the reason to avoid signing someone. They profile the player and decide whether he's the best fit for our needs or not. But they need to be available for a reasonable price, willing to join you over other teams, etc.

While I agree, its 10 goals in 18 games. He has another 20 to not score in for that to be his total this season. Its very unlikely to be.

He scored 12 and got 7 assists on top last season. Even that would help us out given we cant score goals. So hes done more than just half a season as a worthy player for us to want to add.

The last 10 years have jaded me.

United pay 65m-70m for him, he gets throw into this team, under immense pressure and more than likely fails miserably.

But I take your point mate, especially the bold part.

I agree mate, and am similarly jaded to the whole process.

I'm all for signings and of course they're needed, but really just want to see a coach improve what we have here for once before the inevitable rebuild.

We’re stuck in a vicious cycle. We’re a bit crap so players don’t push to join us over other options, so we overpay in transfer fees and wages, then said player doesn’t perform in a way to justify the inflated fee and wages, but we have trouble shifting them or even dropping them while they’re on high wages.

It’s depressing and there isn’t an easy fix. We need somehow to start being attractive to join without overpaying. SAF and a great crop of academy graduates were the catalyst in the 90s, I don’t know where that inspiration will come from now.

I am just not convinced that we can solve our problems with transfers, or at least not with transfers alone.

I’d obviously take Cunha, but I’m tired of being fleeced and paying above what is fair, which hampers our ability to strengthen more of the squad and have competition for places in all positions.

Personally I'm not convinced it'll be that much for him.

My reasoning is I dont think a team will pay it, so if Wolves want to cash in while hes hot they'll have to take what teams are actually offering. I could see a Bayern, Liverpool, Arsenal etc. being happy to come in and sign him but not for a lot more than the £41.49 million that Wolves signed him for. Yes he's their best player but they sell their best players and he was an expensive signing and hes doing what you'd expect for that fee.

Nunes left for City for £51.45 million and Neto to Chelsea for a little less than that. I think he'll probably go for a couple of million higher than those fees

Because we’re a terribly run club that seems to specialize in poor transfer and contract renewal decisions.

Solanke is english and came from a very good season. His fee was £60 mill. I think Cunha will be somewhere similar. Depending on salary I think he could easily be worth that.

There is really very few flaws in his game.

I've watched a fair bit of Wolves the last season and a half and personally I think he'd be an excellent player for Utd. He runs hard, has creativity, vision and great passing ability, and a pretty good shot on him. He's also a pretty canny player taking defenders on. I think he'd be an excellent option in a number 10 spot.

Sadly I don't think it happens.

To be fair, the new team wasn’t in place in 2022. Remains to be seen if this new team is any better at identifying and recruiting young talent prior to them making a name for themselves.

We need players who are mentally strong so they can deal with adversity. Does this guy fall into that category?

Getting banned for what he did apparently not a problem for the Caf. Bruno getting a second booking is unforgiving though
We hired Mou after he poked Barca’s staff members eye. We resigned Cristiano even though there was an allegedly open sexual assault case against him. Did you not support them after they were signed?
