Mateo Kovacic

Either way he is half way between both and we don't need that. So he is not what we need right now simple.

A number 6 is what we need at the moment, but kovacic would provide good competition for Herrera. Beside Herrera, we really do not have any number 8 in our squad that is good enough to start for United. Perhaps Powell, but he has not been giving the opportunity and has been misused in his loan spell.

WTF ? He's almost exactly like Modric in overall playing style and would fit right into our team as a backup with a view of easing into the first team. We are letting Cleverley go. Fletcher and Carrick aren't getting any younger and we have almost zero depth beyond that. Why shouldn't we sign him on the cheap ? Or should we wait a couple of seasons, let his value inflate and compete vs Barcelona, Madrid and the other usual suspects ?

Let it inflate because in three years time i guarantee you this guy will be a #10.

kovacic can play as a no.10 just as modric can but that doesnt make it his best position. hes an excellent option as a CM and if he was already t unied he would be starting every game such is his quality. that being said, we cant sign him as a starter, we need to buy a more established player for that purpose. kovacic would have to be eased into the fist team.

He's being groomed as a deeper midfielder for a couple of seasons now. Played in that role for the majority of Croatia's matches until Kovac had a fool's epiphany at the World Cup. Modric is almost 30 and he's the natural heir to him and Boban. Halilovic will be Croatia's long term #10. But no. feck logic. He'll be a #10 in 3 years. I guarantee it. Yeah ok that makes a lot of sense.

We will see. More importantly we will see how he plays this season as part of his development.

He's a beast on my FM for David Moyes' all conquering Manchester United army.

Well yes he is but carry on. His problemnis he has been shifted all around the pitch in dinamo,NT and inter but nr 10 suits him best.

if it wasn't flippant, name some games where he's best at 10? I apologize for the manner of my initial comment, it's just he is one of the few I watch regularly as I really like him and usually you have some chief who has used him once on FM so know's his back story...

He's no no10 that's for damn sure or would you classify Jack wilshere as a no 10 in waiting?

Still back him to be the best midfielder of his generation. We don't have any reason what so ever not to be interested in him.

I dont play FM nor I'm some chief who has used him once on FM.

As I said he has played all over the place, you maybe watch him regulary, I watched him regulary for Dinamo and the NT.

He looked better playing CM as Dinamo player than further up the pitch.

He has that silky touch and ball control, which reminds me of Boban, and also great drive with the ball- that's why I would rather see him in middle than playing as number 10.

He can still make difference in final third by coming from middle with his clever runs and at the same time dictate tempo of the play playing as classic CM.

you remember that all hell broke loose in croatia when he played as a cm during štimac's reign. I just think he should play as a nr. 10, at least for the NT.

It was Štimac fault not Kovačić, our whole NT looked completely cluesless and out of place.

Would like to see him alongside Modrić with Rakitić further up-front, but that's just my preference.

Then we'll have a similar problem as when rakitic played behind with modric. No real dmf. On top of that it seems kovac wont give up on a idea of raketa playing cmf or dmf with luka which will probably put mateo on nr 10. I agree that us being awful even with mateo as cmf was stimac fault.
Does anybody know which pos. he played yesterday?

He is special and I want us to be together. I love him.

He was behind the striker. Was a very non-defensive role. Then again, there was no defending needed in that match.

Can we not bump threads in the transfer forum unless there's some actual news?

Not a deep lying playmaker then...
No, far from it. Inter is playing a similar system to United. I've seen Inter a couple of times in pre-season and both games against Stjarnan. They've played with two strikers and they've played with one. Always 3 center backs and wingbacks. In the 2nd leg he was pretty much a forward. I imagine he'll play behind either Icardi or Osvaldo or next to Osvaldo behind Icardi. That's how it looks. Inter aren't crawling with strikers and those three are the best attacking players they've got along with Palacio.

Further behind in midfield they're usually playing with Hernanes and M'Vila. Gary Medel is a new signing and they've also been using Obi with Guarín on the bench getting little game time. That's a lot of deep lying midfielders. I'd be surprised to see Kovacic there at all but then again, I barely watched them last season and I will probably not watch them much at all this season. Just my sense from the pre-season and European games so far and the squad they have.

Yeah, we had a talk here about him being a deep lying pm or a AM playing behind a striker.

I love him and the lack of reported interest in him upsets me. He's a one-off.

For me, he's the biggest midfield talent in the game.

great player. But he is not the complete product yet. A lot of polishing needed, specially some basic aspects, like reading of the game. When to release the ball, when to hold to it and when to dribble. Some times he can abuse of his dribbling. But yep he can be really good. He can pick some very good passes, talented, can dribble, hard worker, pace, and now he is adding goals to his game.

Now that the experiment season is over for Mancini and he knows what he needs in winter, im expecting a much better Inter for the second half of the season.
