If we are going for a young midfielder from Italy we should offer £40m for Pogba. I think Juventus would find it hard to say no.

Pogba has the lot. Technique, power, skill on the ball, great engine and a cracking shot. Patrick Vieira v2.

Is he better then Cleverley and Ando though?

Inter look like they could be beginning to regain some of their former status. Mancini in charge, Podolski on loan with option to buy, permanent signing of Shaqiri, and now their best player signing a new long-term contract. Once they've actually got a pair of full-backs at the club they should start climbing up the table.

I'd like to see the two Milan clubs being competitive again.

Would be very surprised considering they seem to have finally turned a corner, but he doesn't seem to start every game at the minute so maybe they would rather have the cash.

It is not. ITV reported it with reference to Tuttomercatoweb. The only thing they said is that Liverpool are interested and that they are prepared to pay 22m. Could be that he will leave eventually, but it isnt done yet. His agent denied everything and said he would stay there, just signed an extension until 2019 in January. He has problems at the moment, but lets see. Arsenal and Barcelona are interested too apparently.

Who is the sources in that ?

Calciomercato report an article from ITV, who themselves report an article from Tuttomercatoweb, who themselves report an article from Sportmediaset, who themselves report an information from ITV.

The new president has come in and is ready to start ploughing in the money to get them back to being CL regulars within the next 5 years, but I'm not so convinced. They'll likely only get a fine from UEFA for breaching FFP regulations but the chances of them being able to resolve their financial issues while making real progress on the pitch are very slim, IMO, and if they don't do that they'll have transfer bans coming their way. If they want to avoid selling off their key players and weakening the wage bill then they simply need to bring increase their commercial revenue and it's difficult to see where that's going to come from at this stage. If they strengthen their presence in Asia then there's potential commercial growth there but the PL really have a stranglehold on that market already and it looks like Serie A has missed the boat on that one.

I really wanted us to nab him when he was 16-17, but I honestly don't think his progress since then has been particularly impressive. Possibly more of an early bloomer than a genuine top-bracket talent.

Doesn't get more genuine top bracket talent than this lad.

need to show it consistently though.

Not good enough to start ahead of Shaquiri, nor trusted enough to be one of the two box of the box midfielders at Inter.

Guarin good footballing patch has come to an end in recent games, so we might see him in their formation more often.

He just needs a move at this point in his career. Doesn't seem like they ever going to find a role for him in the inter midfield and Mancini doesn't seem to have any idea on what to do with him. Wouldn't be the first time they've bottled a young superstars development and watched him become a great for other clubs.

It's hardly Inter's fault he hasn't been doing consistently well. Not like their other midfielders have been amazing.

Bit of a hipster's man, Kovacic? I've been hearing how good this lad is going to be for years.

We've been hearing about Kovacic for years because he was thrust into the international limelight at a very young age and has basically been playing first team football since he was 16. Still just 20 years old, only 1 year older than Shaw and Januzaj, so like those two there's plenty of time on his side to gain more consistency and come good on his vast promise. Most players that age haven't even broken into the first teams of one of the biggest clubs around like Internazionale (in terms of expectation if not current standing). eg. At about his age Modric was loaned out of Zagreb's first team to Zapresic.

But considering the relative stagnation or even regression of his performances, something that started under Mazzarri last season - perhaps he would benefit from a fresh start. Would do well at a medium pressure Bundesliga club like Schalke or Hoffenheim or even a Europa League qualifying Premier League or Liga sides. A club like Villarreal or Southampton would be perfect for him at this stage of his career. Plenty of playing time with good team-mates under a good manager in a setup that advocates a more technical style of football.

There's no actual set up in the inter midfield. Just a bunch thrown in together expected to do something. There's no structure and most of them get played in a variety of positions. When all the midfielders at the club under perform then you know the problem goes deeper then themselves.

He's a super-talent. Technically and physically superb. Not fully cooked yet though, so I doubt we are looking there at this stage in our team's development.

He's a number 10 destined not for a club like us.. Chelsea or City. Liverpool can have him.. Could be another Coutinho for them.

Another player who does feck all when I watch him but is seemingly rated as one of the best talents in the world.

I think a lot of the good 10s can also play good 8s if they aren't totally inept defensively. Same goes for a lot of 8s that make good 10s if they have more freedom going forward.
Gylfi plays in midfield for Iceland, not as a #10. It's not difficult for him. It's all about the balance. Wouldn't work if he had a similar player as himself next to him.

He needs a move away from Inter. It is a bit like Coutinho at the time, stagnates massively. A move to La Liga or the Bundesliga would be perfect. I dont know if he would be ready for the PL, but i think he is amazing at times.

I thought his career has stagnated in the past year? I'm pretty sure I read that his form has dipped and he's in and out the Inter team.

On his day he can be a great player, but I can't see the current Liverpool team being the catalyst to improve him. They'll need more signings, and with more signing come more instability within the first XI.

Good player but could struggle in the Prem with Liverpool's current team.

Would be a very good transfer for Liverpool.
Can, Henderson, Allen and Lucas doesn't scream attacking options from central midfield; this guy does.

Why type of player is he? Coutinho?

Less agile and a more reliable passer.

I don't see how him and Milner would both play in the XI with Henderson and Coutinho all there, unless they play a diamond I guess (and one sits on the bench), or they play Kovacic at the base of a midfield and try to turn him into Pirlo, which I guess could work, though Henderson and Milner are not exactly Gattuso and Seedorf/Ambrosini in terms of defensive awareness.

Maybe Rodgers will try to play:

Sterling---XXX
---Coutinho---
Milner--Henderson
---Kovacic----
Moreno----Can
--LCB-Skrtel--

but a passer in front of a weak back 4 is asking for another season of poor defending (50 then 48 conceded last 2 years in the League).

I think Kovacic makes more sense for Citeh (Especially help them in the CL) or for United playing where Fellaini did, trying to squeeze through balls to Depay, Rooney and whoever is on the right.

Could be a Coutinho type of transfer for Liverpool. I really rate him and think that Inter doesnt suit him. Liverpool's style will suit him, i think he could have a great impact next season. He is a potentially top midfielder, still very young, has the potential to play for Barca or Real if he develops like everyone expected him to.

@Rozay 's favoutite player.

How did he get on last season? Not really followed Inter since their downfall but from what I remember Kovacic used to be the most exciting prospect in Italy after Pogba. The "driving run from midfield" type.

Although I dont think that style tends to translate well to the Premier League. As Veron and more recently Cuadrado would attest to.

Just the type of signing Liverpool should be looking at then. Hope it doesn't happen.

Sturridge
Coutinho
Moreno Milner Kovacic Henderson
Allen
Sakho Skrtel Can

Who needs a defence eh?
