Mateo Kovacic

 Seems I was right again. The move from the outset was going to be a failure. He is very talented, but since moving to Madrid, I have not heard much about him. At the moment, he would do well at a midtable club or even Leceister next to Kante. I use to be a big fan, but his move to Madrid has taken away most of the interest I use to have due to rarely seeing him play.

Said it before he joined Madrid. Highlight reel player albeit not even his highlights are that good. Poor man's Barkley.

True, he should have thought about his career, should have said to himself am I good enough/ able to consistently get ahead any 3 off Rodriquez, Isco, Kroos, Modric, Casemiro, the answer should have been no. But then who is going to say no to Real Madrid?

If he was good enough last season then surely he can be this.... at much cheaper than Real paid or not due to a longer existing contract.

He's on about returning to Italy surely we can offer a better out than that. Maybe a loan?

Ridiculous really, nothing like Barkley and far from being an inferior player to him.

This guy is looking to leave he is on a 6 year deal(5 left). I can only guess a loan move is possibel. €29 Million last year. Not sure we'd pay that for a player who isn't playing

When I saw this thread just now I realised I´ve completely forgotten that he even existed. Not the first time for a Real Madrid player tbh.

According to wiki he got 25 games, but probably against weak teams and in the cup. In any case 25 means RM probably wants him around.

How is it a failure when he makes 34 games with players like Modric, Isco, Kroos and James being the competition? I don't think that anyone in his right mind thought he could become a regular starter, not even he himself. Therefore his plan must have been more long term so it's strange he's looking for a transfer. Maybe he's getting impatient.

He seems more suited to La Liga than to the PL but I'm not sure he'll make it at Madrid as I don't see any potential world class abilites. Decent runner on the ball, decent passing, decent shooting, but nothing extraordinary. If he doesn't leave now he'll be gone next summer, assuming he wants to be a starter somewhere. Good squad player though.

Anyone with half a brain

I do not understand how that is a genuine question when his development would progress much more if he had gone to a club that would have gave him the same or better match consistency he had at his previous club. Of those 34 games, he started only 8 in league and 3 in champion league. That sort of appearance ratio is the same reason Hernandez left United because like Hernandez, Kovacic was mostly utilize as a subsidiary player.

You might have a point though that the move would have been more inclined to his long term development, e.g., having played for Madrid on his cv and training with some of the best player in football, but that does not equate to the real match experience he would have had if he was giving better match consistency. Since, going to Madrid, he has gone from being one of the most highly rated young prospect to a player most top club will have second thoughts to adding him to his squad. As such, the move has not been beneficial for his development as he has not progress but moreso declined or remained static. Even you think, he is just a good squad player, when he has the ability before going to Madrid to be much more than that.

SSNHQ....

Real Madrid
are not keen on Juventus’ idea of taking Mateo Kovacic on loan with an option to buy, reports Tuttosport.

Kovacic has been tipped to leave Real Madrid after playing a bit-part role at the Bernabeu following his €30m transfer from Inter Milan last summer.

Juventus are interested in the Croatia international and want to sign him on loan with a future option to sign him permanently.

He was a class player used to rave about him to my mates before he went to inter. I'd take him here on a loan if the price they are asking is too high. Can only see the price getting higher after a loan though as I think he'd do well at a team he was playing regularly in.

Perfect option in a midfield three I'd say.

It's fairly obvious once you stop looking at it with Kovacic tinted specs which is probably too much to ask from you given your horrifically over the top praise of him.

His best attribute are the occasional runs he makes from deep (which generally leads to nothing anyway). He's absolutely nowhere near good enough either at CM or AM for any of the top clubs. Barkley has added more productivity to his game so that comparison was harsh on Barkley.

He has some potential but he's been poor to average for both Inter and Real. Needs to add a lot more to his game, be it more productivity if he's to play as a #10 or improve his passing and consistency if he's to play as a CM. Looking graceful on the ball and making the occasional run is not going to cut it.

He's barely played at Real and inter in recent times so its not all that surprising that he hasn't impressed. I always find it strange how some people rate Iniesta very highly but don't like Iniesta type players. Productivity hasn't been an issue for him and it shouldn't be for Kovacic either as his impact goes far beyond that.

Talking about Inter, he had two managers who literally couldn't understand how to play him. The result: 2 years spent accomplishing nothing because of bad management.
But he's really a gem, he has an awesome ball controll and can drive the ball precisely, he needs to improve the management of the full game (a lot of things change in 90 minutes) and the overall interaction with his team mates. IMO he's a number 10, not really a CM.
I'm sure he will shine when he goes to a club that can appreciate him, be it United, Juve or whatever.
He just ended up in the worst club he could after escaping from a very bad situation at Inter.

He must be a talent for Madrid to have bought him but I must have seen him play 15 or so times and not a single game I ave seen him has he impressed me at all.

Another career stunted by Perez

This is that rare chance where a world class player becomes available because Real Madrid has bought too many players. Kroos, Modric, Isco, Asensio, Casemiro and now Ceballos will limit his appearances in central mid.

He would be great piece to have in central midfield, and is at the right age bracket. His wage is ~60k a week...

Interesting player. Certainly has the ability to do very well here.

Think he would do well here, but knowing Perez he'd quote us what they bought him for +15m.

Not even Croatians would say this.

Scholes didn't play for Mourinho.

Anyway, I wasn't being serious, just saw a tweet about how our whole team is at least 6' now.
Mikhitaryan does though

Edit: oh white text..

I used to be in love with him, and would have done anything (within reason) tobhave him here. Amazing talent.
