Gaming Mass Effect: Andromeda (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

Main criticisms I have so far with it could (and should) all be fixed in the next patch. Framerate drops, the game almost freezing at points, getting stuck while moving and having to quit and go back in the game, random missions glitching and having to quit and go back in to make people appear or make something go away, etc.. There a re a few flaws but once they're all fixed then it'll be a great game imo. Doesnt bother me too much anyway, still loads of fun and a huge amount to do.
I've been playing for nearly a week now , and none of those issues have appeared for me

Happens quite a lot to me. On ps4 and downloaded it from the store instead of getting a physical copy so that might have something to do with it, but I doubt it. Saw other people have similar problems.

I'm on PS4 too, and I downloaded it from the store.. I've had some buggy animations, but otherwise I've had a pretty decent experience. Have sorted Eos, Voeld and Havarl out for colonisation without any errors...

Maybe its just my file then! Doesnt happen aall the time, but definitely started happening more after finishing Eos. Whenever I load into it it takes a few seconds before I can actually move though I can look around. Just minor freezing problems basically.

Oh get over yourself. And you quoted Kevin's hyperbole, known resident mental case.

Edit: Oi, why is the word "Thief" in my tagline?

He's probably wumming but doesn't mean he's wrong.

This is supposed to be a multi million dollar AAA game from a studio historically known for excellent polished titles, not an early access game or indie title.

If you enjoy it then fair play to you, but if enough people find this massive downgrade in quality from the studio acceptable, then it's hardly a surprise the industry is going to shit when publishers like EA can just fleece us since we buy up every turd they rush through.

It's funny when people get precious over a game or feel like they have to justify the purchase to themselves.

Good for you if you're enjoying this though. I don't understand how - I have been playing most of last night and all of today and it's utter drivel. An awful game.

If you're thinking about buying this - DON'T. It's not even worth 20 quid in my opinion.

It starts off bad and it's still damn bad - and I am about 9 hours in now.

Poor effort Bioware. Really really poor.

Well now I don't know what to believe.

An average of 4.6 on Metacritic says it all really.

I went into this expecting it to be lame but it's worse than some are saying.

If anything, the gaming journos have been incredibly kind. This game is trash. It's dull, the storyline is shite, it's scan scan scan scan and the occasional gun fight where the physics still don't feel right, you've seen the character models - they are laughably bad.

Worst of all it doesn't even feel like a Mass Effect game. It's feels like a new game which most people wouldn't touch if it didn't have Bioware's name on it.

It stinks mate. Don't bother. There are so many good games around at the moment - Nier Automata, Persona 5 etc. Don't waste hours of your life talking to lifeless video game aliens with hilarious faces.

I like it, but I can see why people don't. Don't know why both sides feel the need to vehemently argue their thoughts really.

I just think that some Mass Effect fans are feeling angry at EA for releasing a turd after spending so much cash on it.

I mean, how did it pass quality control? If I paid good money for this, I would seriously think about asking for a refund.

I'm a huge ME fan and I think it's good.

Which is great.

But the majority of people that have played this think it's a stinker. And that's why it's getting talked about so much - we aren't talking about a few people who don't enjoy it. It's getting negative feedback across the board.

Because the combat is solid, the story is okay and there's a good variety in the level design. Its nothing special and without the Mass Effect history to fall back on (both in terms of pre-written back story and universe, as well as the free publicity the name gives it) it would have maybe been worse but it's not like it's so broken that it sets your computer on fire.

No they don't. You're going along with the hyperbole. Lots of people are enjoying the game.

 I'm guessing a certain someone saw your plans to steal Zelda?

To be fair, this is a forum and it's here for people to discuss whatever topic they like. Not everyone agrees on everything, and it would be boring if they did.

I'm yet to try this myself, I'm going to play it when it's cheaper and try to judge it fairly. I can totally get why people slag it off heavily, just being a Mass Effect game shouldn't make it immune to harsh judgement. After all, it is a AAA game with serious issues, putting aside it's in a series we all either like or love, should we be happy with a half-finished game? It's just my opinion, but I don't like people being so eager to settle for it. That being said, I still hope I enjoy the gameplay!

When someone says people must have low standards for enjoying it, you cant help but reply, shit on it all you want, you're entitled too, but get out of that ivory tower and stop acting like what you post is fact.

Mass Effect community is toxic, we all know that, just look at the over reaction to ME3 ending. Yeah it was shit, but not file lawsuits, start petitions and send death threats to the team kinda shit.

I feel the need to post that my top 3 games of all time are Witcher 3, Bloodborne and OG Dark Souls. Hardly shit taste. :p

Chill man, it's just discussion. Though I shall thoroughly judge you based on what I think of this, and I feel the need to say: feck Bioware forums, the Mass Effect community and shite like Neogaf. If it helps your mindset, you do seem to have good taste!

But then you need to, thieves need to know the best stuff to snatch and fence after all ;)

Thoughts thus far, @ADJUDICATOR? I think you've managed to stay fairly neutral 'midst all the criticism and then need to veer opposite to defend it.

I'm not far into this, it's been just OK so far.

Although I have found a Salarian who doesn't speak like a Salarian and a Krogan who doesn't speak with a deep rumbly voice, and I am not happy about this.

That krogan is a female though.

That's racist!

For the record, to those that want to buy this, I'd suggest getting NieR: Automata instead. I got both, and Andromeda feels like such a boring slog compared to Andromeda. YMMV, of course, but I'd recommend getting that over this.

Weird, didn't expect the negative press, I'm enjoying it, I'm a big fan. Not that it's the game of a generation or anything but definitely enjoying, oh well!

Anyway I was just wanting to ask if anyone has done much crafting, I managed to decimate my main weapon and it held me up for a day or so, I've rectified it now but does anyone have any tips or builds they've found work well? I can't find anything online

Unfortunately the crafting / inventory system is one of the worst aspects of the game. God knows who's great idea it was to not allow you to switch to weapons you've picked up from lost boxes / enemies. It means its very cumbersome to to try out weapons you've found and maybe then craft a better version of it.

Plus from looking at the stats of a lot of the weapons most of them look garbage anyway, especially the remnant ones. Of course I would try some out if it weren't so prohibiting to do so. Through I crafted an asari sword V which is awesome if you're an adept / vanguard.

Almost competed this now, the games good but some baffling design choices stop it from being a great one. The crew are actually really good, though most of the other characters in the world are pretty forgettable.

I think the proper side missions are actually of decent enough quality - it's no TW3 but they're OK with some really fun ones - especially base clearouts and loyalty missions. It's the 'tasks' which are dreadfully dull. I stopped doing those very quickly.

There's a lot of potential in this game for a brilliant ME:A 2

I honestly wouldn't give review scores any consideration on this game - most of them seems like a counter-reaction to reviewers giving Dragon Age: Inquisition an unjustified high score and they seem to feel the need to even it out. Also, hating on flaws and highlighting even minor things is the new cool. Andromeda is a far better game than DAI in almost every aspect.

I think I'm nearing the end in this - settled all the worlds I can and finished the longer quests you pick up on Nexus (scan minerals etc.). It's not a masterpiece by any means, but IMO it's a solid game and a good Mass Effect game. One of the things they've done really well in this are the side quests, which actually have a purpose in this game and are generally quite varied. You're not being asked to collect 15 [insert animal] paws for the sake of it, you're being asked to help out with something that will overall help living on the planet or raise peoples' hope. Sure, the "planet viability" is a gamey mechanic at the core, but it works well. I also think the size of the planets are pretty bang on - there's enough to do, but they aren't big for the sake of it (i.e. no Hinterlands) and the Nomad is fantastic.

Again, I'm by no means denying the flaws the game has. The inventory system is OK (in that it's easy to find what you want), but the default size is way too small and I have no idea why you're not able to change equipment when you want. There's also too many clicks required for certain things, but I suspect that's at least partly down to consoles. Everyone knows about the dialogue animations not being great, but the actual dialogue is pretty solid (playing male Ryder and mainly picking professional and logical replies - I read that quality may depend quite heavily on this). The game often picks a very awkward camera angle for the conversations too, so the person you're talking to might not even be visible, or you're looking straight into someone's back. The thing that probably annoys me the most is travelling between different planets - I get that one of your designers spent a few days making cool animations for it, but could you stop forcing them on me? There's no real reason why I can't skip those cut-scenes, which take more than 20 seconds.

Ok need advice this or horizon zero dawn or possibly something different?. Been going over which one to buy and can't decide.
