Mason Mount's Many Misfortunes (please don't make another waste of money post)

Anger management is free on the NHS FYI

I'm hopeful we get to see him before the end of the season, he knows the 10 role in a 343, be interesting now the ex Arsenal doc has quit if we see any change in some of these injuries.
He also knew the 10 role in a 4-2-3-1 or 4-1-4-1 and was still shit.

From now to the end of the season, I think he’s definitely playing for his future here. Based on Sir Jim’s comments about him and Shaw not playing much (being on high wages as well) for two years now, I’m sure the board are looking to offload them.

Yeah I think him and Shaw will find themselves out on loan next season if they can’t get back to playing by the end of the season. There’s no hope of us selling them but I think the club will just want them out the door even on subsidised loans.

Of course even loaning them would require them not to be injured so that might make that a non starter as well. Mount still has three years on his contract after this season so it’s a lot money to be pissing away.

Wish he’d just feck off but unfortunately, we’re stuck with him.

Can’t stand the fecking sick note. Right up there with the worst. We should be putting these types out for sale, not buy them. The two London boys and a trio of snail munchers… how do we do it?

Martial, Pogba, Varane?

The stupid thing is we needed a CM not another attacking mid. So we bought an attacking mid who can do a job at best at CM. Genius.
Yep, that was beyond stupid, EtH thinking he could re-train him as an 8, why not just buy someone that already played the position? I like Mount as a player and would have been fine with us getting him on a free a year later, but not spending all that money on someone who was unproven in the position we needed him to play.

True. But we should never signed him. We didnt need him and price we paid is borderline criminal offence.

Agreed and even on a free transfer his wages are obscene with the state of his fitness record. We weren't to know that though and he wasn't going to sign for less money than he was currently on. We thought we were buying a very good player at peak age whose injuries were behind him. We can't catch a break but hopefully some good luck comes our way now from Mount in the run in. What I do know is if you gave Soicadad 55 million quid for transfers and an extra 250k a week for wages they'd get 2 or 3 potential top players out of that or build towards a squad that could challenge again in spain. We are wasting money left and right and we also desperately unlucky at the same time. If we were getting value for money and making the best decisions and getting the rub of the green we wouldn't even be in the EL in the first place. We should be walking into the semis/final of this competition on paper.

I'm back on the hype train boys, waiting to get hurt again. Hope he just replaces Eriksen and doesn't get stuck in the Ugarte role.

ETH & Murtough went from chasing Frenkie all summer, to panic-buying Casemiro to signing Mount one year before he was available for free for 60m.

There have been endless arguments over how much control ETH actually had on transfers during his time here, but I'm absolutely certain the De Jong chase was solely his doing and insistence that De Jong actually did want to leave (when he said he wasn't leaving countless times).

Does it matter? Bruno still got numbers and he even plays in CM due to injury. Mount won't do diddly squat in this system.

I'm struggling to follow the logic here. Are you one of the 3-4-3 haters and saying the system itself is broken so he has no chance of success? Or do you think there's no difference between Mount's role in Ten Hag's 4-2-3-1 and Amorim's 3-4-3?

He’s an anti Amorim guy. Best just to ignore him.

I dont understand how a player can be reliable to become completely injury prone without a major injury.

Its very weird long term muscle injuries as well, not like he has been overworked or the like.

Seems really strange to me, can't even get a run of 2 games.

No point in rushing him back. Especially if the ideal is to have him for next season or to loan him. Theres something very wrong with his body, mind, posture, tension etc.

No idea why but the professionals should know. Could very well be spinal alignment which puts tension on parts of the body.

Main thing is he comes, goes out. I wouldn’t give him game time till 2 months after hes “fit”

Also him and Lucha can’t train hard, ever again. Ever ever again

The thing is everytime we have got him back, he has never really been rushed, he hasn't completed a 90 mins with us yet.

Its just random injuries for him.

The medical team really need to have a look at it, if is an alignment issue, then I am not too sure what can be done to ensure he is fit for a season.

He needs to play minimal minutes for 2 reasons,
Overplaying him when he has been out for so long will almost certainly result in new injuries, 10-15 mins at the end of games is enough, better to keep him fit and play youngsters instead not like we have much to play for!
If we can get to the summer window with him still fit there is at least the chance that we can sell him.

As much as fans aren't currently happy with him, I think he has a real future here and has an opportunity to really develop his career, getting back to his previous levels. On paper, we feel much weaker than we actually are as a squad due to the lack of availability of players like Mount and Shaw. Injuries mean that we should always have a steady rotation of players who can play the no.10 role, but I think he will be one of the positive surprises moving forward, and is a sizable piece that we've been missing.

I think there's an element of overwork. He puts in basically an Ugarte level shift whenever he's on. I imagine if he takes it a touch easier on defence he'd be less likely to get injured .. let's see what the recommendations from the physio are. I think he's very eager to prove himself. Got the #7, was really happy to be here and really motivated to help the club win.

I really like the guy. I hope, for his sake, that he plays in the #10 role and puts in a bit less effort on defence until he gets a proper run of games.

He's got a real future here, and it's because no one in their right mind would pay 250k a week for a player who should be entering his prime, but instead he's on the treatment table more than Owen Hargreaves.

I mean he's not played a 90 min for us once so, whilst he works hard on the pitch, its not something he has not done.

I think even Hargreaves was more available over a similar timeframe. I get the hate to an extent but I don't like people trying to rewrite history making out like he's not able to play football and was always a nothing player

ETH didn't really want him to play like an 8 though. We effectively played with two 10's ahead of a 6 all of last season, with the third midfielder pushing up very high alongside Bruno. Most clearly seen by how McTominay's positioning and movement changed so dramatically from any previous season.

ETH wanting to play that way is why Mount was bought.
