Mason Mount's Many Misfortunes (please don't make another waste of money post)

Decent player who doesn’t move the needle enough to justify the amount of money we spent on him and his likely 250k contract. Especially when the squad is still missing more important pieces. He’s a cherry on top midfielder for the squad who in all honesty many managers at top clubs would be keen on because he’s probably viewed as a Swiss Army knife.

He could still very well turn out to be a good player for us who we look back at fondly once he leaves the club but we had different priorities that should have been addressed first, once they are addressed and he’s still available for a decent price then yeah would have been a great addition to the squad.

I feel he's getting rated worse and worse with every passing game week that he's out injured. Bit like Casemiro.

Hindsight is everything but at this point we could have just waited until the summer and signed him for free and gotten the same out of him. A baffling transfer. We needed stability and reliability in midfield and we signed a player who was out of form and injured for the whole of the previous season.

Would I be surprised to hear that he hasn’t settled in Manchester and wants to move back to London? No

Maybe West Ham sell Paqueta and come in for Mount as a replacement in Summer 2025, assuming we get a largely unimpressive season out of him next year too

I knew he wouldn't improve UTD but I had no idea he would miss so many matches, making Donny VDB look like a decent signing & that's really saying something.

It was underwhelming from day 1, but we all hoped it'd be one of those transfers that ends up being a team enhancing master stroke.

So far it's looking like a more injured version of the DVB transfer, in that we can't really effectively play him and Bruno together.

I cannot wait to see him on the pitch for us....it will be like a new signing.

Whilst I can understand the need for privacy when it comes to medical matters, sometimes, it's better to be open about it - less speculation and drama in my view.

My mind goes back to Darren Fletcher a few years ago and I can see why some issues are personal and the general public do not need to know everything about someone with a high profile or low profile for that matter.

I hope his medical condition is not as horrific as Darren Fletcher's. I wish him nothing but the best if it is.

I am not saying it is but I really think we do not need to know everything about everyone with a profile.
If something is personal than the media should stop hounding in interviews for answers as we all should on various platforms.

There's half a clue in your 2nd line.
And the other clue has been him making absolutely zero impact in the times he has got near the pitch
Why are you not shitting on Martinez then? He was crap initially this season and did well in only 2 games.

I mean, this transfer is in contention for one of the worst as it stands right now, so hardly surprising. The few times he was available, while somewhat decent overall, didn't exactly leave a lasting impression either. To the point where people started forgetting we even had him. Maybe he could become more useful under a proper manager, and if he can actually to stay fit for more than 2 weeks, but I never see him being an integral part. And he is rather expensive for a squad player.
I am not questioning whether the transfer made sense or not. To me it did not at that time and still doesn't. But random bumps on this thread with people just wanting to lay into an injured player is weird.

Agreed. Need to see him healthy and play fo us for a while. He obviously has played well in the EPL before.

I forgot he even played for us truth be told. Irrelevant so far but I live in hope he can suprise us.

70m for a squad player though. Still scratching my head at that one.

Seriously, where the hell is this guy? I don't even see him in the stands.

I thought it was either baffling or desperation to sign an above average player for £55 mill when he was in his last year of contract. It wasn't as if we were signing De Bruyne. Also his best position is Brunos position, (TH never drops him) and he was never going to be picked in front of him, so it was a barmy signing imo. The fact he has been injured virtually all season as well, especially as he had been injured second half of the season, last season for Chelsea just sums up where we (are/were) as a club and on this alone, shows TH shouldnt be picking the players to sign, going forward.

It's incredible how much stick Bruno gets when he's arguably are best and most consistent player. Yet people are so quick to defend a player who is yet to do, or show, anything at all.

Enjoy your Mount love in, I'll wait until he actually does something to deserve my attention.
Yeah you should also wait before shitting on a player who has had no real opportunities to take a place in the starting XI.

I think the frustration with Mount is as much aimed at the club's awful recruitment as Mount personally. Some garbage line from the club that Arsenal and Liverpool could be interested (they weren't) and we manage to spend £60m on a player in his final year when Chelsea were desperate for cash. An absolute car crash, then you add in the fact that he was already suffering injuries and his one purple season for Chelsea was some time ago and it starts to look bad. Another lightweight system player who really doesn't seem to address any of the obvious gaps in the starting 11. maybe he will deliver but I think this will rival Antony as a terrible signing.

I totally agree that this transfer made no sense whatsoever, where we paid 60m for a player on his last year of contract.

But I have mentioned already what I am struggling to understand. Is reiterating "what an awful transfer this is" every other week really necessary?

i can't wait for him to return and prove the doubters wrong, the stick he gets on here is crazy

It seems like it's aimed primarily at ETH & co, on the entire premise of the transfer in the first place, and rightfully so.

When you've got a round hole to fill, you don't overspend on a square peg to do it.
