Mason Mount | Confirmed

From the discourse online, Mount has to be up there with most divisive big money signing in a while.
That’s an understatement.
It’s like 2% are happy with the signing.
Then a small minority aren’t necessarily disappointed.
The other 90% range from stop ETH immediately from anything else than coaching and keep him as far away from making transfer lists as possible to I don’t see it with Mount but I trust ETH.

At least Southgate will stop using him now

Not an obvious improvement for a serious sum. Good luck to him, hopefully ten Han knows what he's doing with this one!

He is a good player and I hope he becomes a great servant to this club.

However I can not understand the club briefing earlier how we are not gonna pay the United tax than we proceed to do so. At least act like the big dog pay up and shut up.

I didn't pay close attention to this but am I wrong in understanding that we initially offered around 45m when Chelsea initially wanted 85m? Both sides should be happy, some solid haggling was done.
The reports I saw were Chelsea wanting £65m - £70m.

Not enthused tbh.

Hopefully buying this guy doesn’t equal us not going for Caicedo who is a superior player and seems logically better suited to Utd.

If we’ve basically just given Chelsea 55m to put towards Caicedo then it’s an awful transfer and essentially massively strengthened a rival.

Largely content we’ve got the deal over the line. I think 55m was a fair deal for him so that we’ve paid just a little bit over isn’t a bad deal for the club, especially when we were quoted £70-80m before which we’d have been mad to pay.

the "final" offer was already nuts for a player with one year on his deal, but caving and adding 5 more million really takes the cake. What a clownshow.

Our fans don't understand that he fills so many gaps with his age, technicality, pressing and versatility.

Eriksen is still here, but Mount can start most games. We now have a midfield that can contend with most teams. We still have time for a Casemiro back up, but I think this signing was essential for us to play ETH's 433 and to cover gaps when we have injuries

We still will sign a striker and maybe a goalkeeper. I don't think we NEED a CB or RB in this particular takeover window. So we can be patient whilst getting AWB, Dalot, Malacia, Amad, Antony, Mainoo, Sancho and Pellestri to improve

Because the adjustment to 60m total is with add ons that are unlikely, so it's essentially the same thing

I respect your opinion but how do you or I know more than ETH and be sure Mount wont fit his long-term strategy? It's possible ETH wants to play with two AMs with Bruno/Mount doing No.8 role depending on game situation.
If Mount was targeted last summer most likely every one would have been okay with 60-80 million easy but it was last season performance people are not interested but my bigger point is last year of contract + 60m should not be the reason of hindrance. Sure, next year he will be free but lot of things could change between now and next season, Chelsea might include him in the starting line-up this season and they win CL or PL and we are not in top four, he wont sign for us.

I mean I think it's quite clear that's exactly what ETH wants to do, I just have serious reservations about whether it's even going to fecking work. Modern football requires you to either have extreme ball retention characteristics in the midfield (City) or a bunch of physical monsters with non top engines that will just win the ball constantly to give it to the creative players (Liverpool). We sure as feck won't have the former with a Bruno/Mount/Case midfield, which means ETH wants a more direct team. But in that case we are seriously lacking the wide players especially on the right side to hurt teams (Antony/Dalot is about as uncreative of a flank as it gets). It feels like we are caught in the middle.

But I've said enough, it either works or it doesn't and I sure as feck hope I'm wrong and Bruno+ Mount gives us an extra 20 goals next year while turning us into a pressing machine. Time will tell.

Apparently we're not even in the race for Caicedo.

60 million for Mason Mount on an expiring contract? Utter madness no wonder everyone rips us off

£5million in extremely difficult add-ons, of which, if they are achieved then the transfer fee will probably have been worth it in the end anyway.

You bedwetters are an absolute chore.

Don't get your hopes up. I'd be amazed if that scenario isn't exactly what happens.

£60m. Confirms what I posted earlier and was mocked for it. So now it's my time to remind everyone how clever I am.

sometimes I put malteasers up my bum and cry myself to sleep

Shite, wrong quote.

Look if Ten Hag can turn him into a box to box monster that basically resembles dollar store Modric then I'm all for it and will stop questioning him as much. But excuse me for not jumping for joy for signing I player I have never rated for a position that I personally don't think he fits properly, especially after I saw how underwhelming Antony was last year.

One thing is for sure, we are going to be fielding a really fecking attacking lineup. You cnuts better pray Casemiro doesn't get hurt or is suspended because this basically means we are going yet another year without cover for him, and I'll be damned if I have to watch us roll out Scott McTominay at the base of a midfield with Bruno and Mount.

fixed. Would be nice to add a proper veteran DM for cover or buy a young DM that could develop, I'm fine keeping Scott as squad depth if got to play as a proper box to box midfielder.

Probably about what he’d have been worth if he still had a few years left on his contract. But it’s not an Antony level of overpay, so the fee shouldn’t be an albatross round his neck.

I was always in the “What actually is the point of Mason Mount” camp when he played for Chelsea and England. So I’m hoping to be pleasantly surprised and ready to eat a bucket load of humble pie.

It’s a good feeling to be getting one over the line.

I'm honestly surprised with the amount of people not seeing him as an obvious improvement to what we've got. Martinez and him are the two ten Hag signings I feel like I immediately see how will work.

The reactions on here  plus it might make some people shut up about being unable to do business early.

Very intrigued by this signing, I trust Ten Hag's vision so I'm curious to see how Mount will fit in! I'm sure he'll look much better in red than in blue :)

the final offer was 50 + 5, now it's 55 + 5 - so nothing to do with the add-ons. Tell me again why tacking on 5 more million after saying "this is our final offer!" makes sense.

if I'm called a bedwetter for a bad deal (or at the very least, a bad negotiation), then so be it.

Good signing I feel. Think he fits ten hags profile of a no 8 very well. Technically good, busy, good presser, gets goals and assists. Good age aswell, PL experience coming from a big club like Chelsea aswell means there shouldn't be any big surprises for him, should settle quickly.

Fine with this as long as he’s not our only midfield signing this summer.
