He would have made a huge difference in the games were Eriksen's legs were an issue.

For certain games this improves our first XI so it's a good signing.

From the discourse online, Mount has to be up there with most divisive big money signing in a while.

i look forward to moaning at southgate for playing grealish instead of mount the whole time now, in a complete reversal of the past 4 years.

IF his contract wasn’t running out next summer - what do you think his value is?

£50-60m. Paid £15m more than we should have considering Kovacic who imo is a better player, went to city for £25m. Is what it is. At least he's 24 and should fit what EtH wants to do.

Decent signing both for quality and depth. Should also give Bruno more space on the pitch, and time to recover stamina between crazy fixtures.

The English pressing machine is here, on to the next target, hopefully majority of them will arrive before the tour.

Buying another 2 time poty from Chelsea. Just hope we use him in his favoured position unlike poor old Mata, shoved around everywhere

Will be squad filler that we’re looking to upgrade on within a year or two while we’re all scratching our heads wondering how we spent £60 million on yet another underwhelming player.

See Maguire, Wan Bissaka, Sancho, Antony etc etc

He's a very good player who perfectly fits the advanced #8/#10 hybrid role we seem to want. POTY twice in the last three seasons for one of our top four rivals, one of which was a CL winning season, and still young.

The only question I have is just how well opting for that advanced #8/#10 profile midfielder will actually function, but that's a question for ETH to answer rather than the player.

Look if Ten Hag can turn him into a box to box monster that basically resembles dollar store Modric then I'm all for it and will stop questioning him as much. But excuse me for not jumping for joy for signing I player I have never rated for a position that I personally don't think he fits properly, especially after I saw how underwhelming Antony was last year.

One thing is for sure, we are going to be fielding a really fecking attacking lineup. You cnuts better pray Casemiro doesn't get hurt because this basically means we are going yet another year without cover for him, and I'll be damned if I have to watch us roll out Scott McTominay at the base of a midfield with Bruno and Mount.

Everyone said the same about Micheal Carrick. Bloody idiots.

agreed. everyone was like “it’s too much money to give to chelsea for him.” but ol’ fergie knew what he was doing.

I'm really happy with this. Good fee for both sides, did not overpay, quality player, great engine. We don't have a player with his skillset in the squad - Ten Hag's been trying to use McT, Fred, Sabitzer at various times to fill the role but none of them were a fit.

I think he'll be great for us!

Kind of singing that the Caf won’t fancy, but if we didn’t get him and he went to Liverpool - he would be considered a massive loss for us because he is English and has won the CL. Posters would use this as an example of how poorly we are run ;)

Terrible way of looking at transfers in general unless you are already a complete team adding a final piece, but especially when you're a rebuilding club working on a limited budget. That's fecking awful logic.

I respect your opinion but how do you or I know more than ETH and be sure Mount wont fit his long-term strategy? It's possible ETH wants to play with two AMs with Bruno/Mount doing No.8 role depending on game situation.
If Mount was targeted last summer most likely every one would have been okay with 60-80 million easy but it was last season performance people are not interested but my bigger point is last year of contract + 60m should not be the reason of hindrance. Sure, next year he will be free but lot of things could change between now and next season, Chelsea might include him in the starting line-up this season and they win CL or PL and we are not in top four, he wont sign for us.

Havertz didn’t have just a year on his contract. Maddison being referred to that is the stupidest way I’ve seen a player from a relegated side be described. Did you see the stats he put up last season in that team? There’s definitely a halfwit here and it isn’t anyone questioning the fee for Mount.

Are you deliberately stupid in real life?

James Maddison went for a reduced fee because Leicester are a Championship team and he is, or was, a Championship player.

How you could read my post and conclude that my contention was that Maddison is some sort of duffer is genuinely beyond me.

fecking state of this thread.

Hope SJ is taking this summer into consideration with his performance reviews.

Not too fussed with the player or the transfer fee. If this is who ETH wants, then so be it.

I think this is a sensible transfer. Still think we paid a bit over the top, but at 24 and English it is to be expected.

The reason I think it is sensible is because Mount is a systems player. He should fit the style the Manager wants - press resistant, mobile and a good passer. We have had many "individuals" down the years who just did not work. Let's not forget we spent what 5 years wondering what Pogba's best position was, and who we needed to sign to help him flourish. I would rather the player to fit the system, not the other way around.

I am hoping that the face to face meeting included better payment terms that made us agree to 55+5. Also as a sweetener get us one of their Saudi friends to buy our deadwood.

Don't mind this. Short of getting someone like De Jong, I think he's a very good option for our midfield. He offers something halfway between what Eriksen or Fred give us from the position, with better ball carrying and more goal threat than either.

Though now we'll probably play him at #10, shift Bruno out to the wing and I'll be fuming. :wenger:

I didn't pay close attention to this but am I wrong in understanding that we initially offered around 45m when Chelsea initially wanted 85m? Both sides should be happy, some solid haggling was done.

We are overpaying by atleast 10m. Could have stood our ground for few weeks more.

Thanks for the money. Now if we can interest you in Cucurella…

Fair play to sticking to our guns

They wanted 75m+ for him 2 weeks ago.

Really dislike the price of this. Time will tell, but I'm skeptical.

£50-60m. Paid £15m more than we should have considering Kovacic who imo is a better player, went to city for £25m. Is what it is. At least he's 24 and should fit what EtH wants to do.

Personally think we've been overcharged slightly too. But he is 24 and Chelsea didn't want to sell him, so they were probably more inclined to hold out vs Kovacic who is 29 and probably on bigger wages than Mount. Also you have to take into account Kovacic probably agreed with Chelsea ages ago to leave for Man City, so it was a much simpler transfer.

Agree though, always wanted Kovacic here and thought we'd go for him.

Hope he proves me wrong because I have yet to see a game of his where he wasn't either anonymous or downright bad.

Yeah, I can't think of another big money transfer of recent years with a similar discourse. Even Maguire/Lukaku wasn't as 'bad' iirc because even if we had doubts at the time, we still understood we were strengthening a really weak area. Whereas with Mount, it seems a like sidestep when we were hoping for a more transformative player after all the progress we've had under ETH this year.
