Mason Mount | Confirmed

I can't believe that Mount is ten Hag's one and ONLY target this year. Just concentrate on his other targets for now and if we have 70 million spare at the end of summer, we do this.

Why are transfers always so laboured with this club?:wenger:
Ye, at the beginning of the window it was all about Kim, which tells me we’re after a CB aswell. Since Bayern swooped in it’s gone quiet, there’s been bits about Hojlund but nothing serious… it’s mainly about Mount. Don’t get why we only ever focus on 1 signing at a time. City have signed Kovacic, they’re speaking to Rice and also speaking to that CB from Leipzig. We can’t do that apparently it’s to difficult.

If Chelsea didn't offer 250K and Man United don't agree a fee, Bayern wouldn't need to offer 250K.

Also, Bayern are already paying over 200K a week to about 10 players, 1 more won't irk anyone.
Is it Euros or pounds? Bayern wouldn’t need to offer 250k but isn’t it what Mount wanted? He could make a lot more money if he held on and signed for free(taking a cool signing on bonus as well)

Let him go to Bayern.
Or let him stay at Chelsea and leave for free next year.

Who cares. It’s Chelsea’s problem.

Go buy Caicedo.

If only I could trust the club to conclude this in the next couple of weeks.

The fact that always have one summer long 'Will he, won't he?' saga almost every year is more than laboured enough for me. I can't remember the last time we had a relatively clean summer or sorting everything out before preseason.

If the club or the man doesn't fancy it, we move on.
There isn't a club that doesn't have long laboured sagas by that logic. City had Kane, Stones etc in recent times, Pool have had Bellingham. Every selling club will dig in its feet to get the best deal possible and if you really want top players, they are not gonna come cheap or easy.

If this transfer falls through, then there's a real possibility that he will sign a new contract with Chelsea. He's only what? 24 years old, he might want financial security.

We never really get a good deal out of these sagas though. If they join, we overpay every single time, by a long way. And that makes the transfer almost doomed from the start, unless the player is truly stellar. If they don't join, the saga derails our transfer strategy for the summer and leaves us unprepared for the new season.

I’m surprised Ornstein hasn’t chimed in yet. I suspect United and Chelsea are still negotiating and a deal will be struck at £60M.

Think it'll be £50m + £5m in easy add-ons and £5m in unrealistic ones, personally

I am only guessing here but I don't think United will go beyond the 55m total, but they might negotiate the full 55m to paid as guaranteed and no add-ons

Mount is a decent pressing workhorse with some end product and there's the English tax pushing the price up.

Can see why ETH would want him. I think not having to deal with favouritism issues can be good for him also..

£50m + add-ons is a reasonable deal and that'll be ballpark where it ends up.

Ziyech didn't play much, around 10 games worth of minutes the whole season and he wasn't in the last year of his contract.

Mount is a better player though but there's a big chance Poch won't have him in his plans because he won't be there long term.
There are plenty of other examples of players in their final years of contract, still being used by their club. Sometimes it's a matter of understanding

It's all well and good "sticking to our guns" but we've been here before with the board not backing the manager. I'm not a huge Mason Mount fan but clearly ETH is and once again we'll have got to the start of the season without player(s) the boss wants, having wasted weeks. I really hope the new owners wipes this bunch of dicks in the boardroom away
If you think that you could juggle 100m better and try to leave wiggle room for multiple signings then you must be a magician, why haven’t they hired you!?

Well had talking through one's ass was a skill valued by Football Clubs then the poster definitely could have been hired .

The quality of opinions this year is a joke. I feel like I’m on the otherside for once.

Is it always this bad? I’m normal against the club most transfer windows.

The negative cult seems to be growing.. I think Qatar potentially taking over must have an impact… like PSG don’t do bad business

I understand people think that positions like DoF can be upgraded but they need to understand that you can only get so much out of a limited budget with huge restrictions. Having a new DoF would just mean the same issues with a new face.

It's getting worse by the year. Many posters believe Qatar will just waive with the magic wand and everything will be terrific.

People aren’t thinking logically and this year seems worse than ever. Perhaps ETHs relevant success in the first season has driven expectation’s too high. But I really don’t know what they think murtough etc can do with huge restrictions this summer. They are literally going from player to player to seemingly find out that clubs are pricing them out of our reach

How about offload some players and increase the budget? And not sell a prospect for a measly 850k?

How about not massively overpay for Antony last summer and screw the budget?

It's a blessing that ten hag has missed out on mount as his main target, I find it worrying that ten hag wanted him because of his performances in the Dutch league years ago which tells me we are still all over the place with recruitment that we are still relying on ten hag to do all work in identifying targets, nothing seems to have been learned since ferguson left.

also did the club not learn from sancho and Maguire that it is not worth time and money chasing overhyped above average English players

I cant get my head around people being pleased with the idea of us just walking away. If Mount is the player the manager wants we shouldn't be posturing over £5m. If we are on a limited budget and have to strengthen multiple areas where the hell is the logic in taking a stand over this while then deciding to pursue "other targets" with the one being suggested (Caicedo) by any report Ive read costing £30m more?!

The same people want transfer business done early seem equally happy to sack this deal off and start an entire process again for a much more expensive player. Leaving aside who we rate more highly and the fact they are completely different types of midfielder.

How do you know that ETH wanted him because of his performances in the Dutch league? He's been a really good player in the EPL... Do you not think that's a factor?

I definitely don't believe that, however still hoping they come out on top and we see an improvement in transfers come January

Yeah very true, however people who bring up Klopp wanting someone else over Salah is a good example of manager not always getting in right

Mo Salah was a club target way before Klopp who they tried to by before he went to Chelsea. They also brought him off his best season ever out of Switzerland.

Who are you suggesting our Mo Salah is in this scenario as the context has to match.

We literally tried to sign Caicedo from Ecuador.

No chance it won’t get done. People thinking we have moved on from Mount are wrong. United just showing a strong hand. He will be our player soon. You can quote me on this.
