Time to dis-Mount
So we're £10m apart, with Chelsea open to further negotiations. Another £5m-ish probably gets this done. One of our primary targets over the line, in time for pre-season and yet everyone is demanding we walk away. I get some don't fancy the player (he wasn't top of my list either), but imagine this exact situation happened last year with FDJ and the board played chicken over these amounts.
If he aint the guy, then we need to look at the people who identify our targets, but once we have decided on them, we shouldn't be pulling out at late stage negotiations to save face.
We also shouldn't be making public "take it or leave it" offers, if that isn't our intentions.
So will it be Boehly who meets Murtough and Arnold? If so, it will be difficult to predict who will talk the most crap during that meeting?
He used to also play RB and RW at Bayern too for tactical reasons. I think you’re over simplifying this one.
Oh no, we might get a very good player that the manager wants instead of some muppet's preferred target/flavour of the month. What a disaster! Better spit out our dummies and throw our toys out of the pram.
He's literally the opposite to Juan Mata, so how would that work?
I’m just reminding you he was also used in these same positions at Bayern. Maybe he was a failed transfer that’s not an argument for me but his role at United was very similar to what it was at Bayern. Not at all. All the speculation for all that time was how he would improve our midfield. He failed but found another role in another position
I think they are trying to replace Mount with Caicedo. Trying to milk as much as possible for Mount so they don’t have to shell out for Caicedo.Bet Chelsea want comfort that we dont interfer with Caicedo.
No problem.
Thanks, that's me reading diagonally. You are correct, it is clearly stated.Read again. Specifically:
"those other clubs, including Liverpool and Arsenal, Thomas Tuchel on behalf of Bayern Munich who has a credible interest as well, have been made aware that Manchester United is Mount’s preference."
Why would he? He their academy graduate.Decline meeting. Offer on table. Final.
They will need to sell if they are signing Caicedo. It’s just a waiting game. MM needs to throw toys out of pram.
Chelsea are intent to pull our pants down if we are to get this deal done. 55m should be last offer - player wants the move and out of contract in June. If we pay 63m inc add ons we’re sending a clear message that we can be fleeced.
He has been training at Chelsea's academy since he was 4 years old.
I think everyone is running away slightly wiht the whole Chelsea winning thing here as well, their original estimation is 70-80 and they've had to climb down a bit too mind, it's not just us having to bump up, we'll most likely meet at 60 and call it a day, which is a bit more than our original offer but it's also less than Chelsea originally wanted. So it's not like Chelsea have stuck to their price and then we've waited all summer and caved and paid that price. This isn't like an Antony.
“No one can have educated opinions on football! Everyone here is just a muppet! United know better than anyone!”
And then people are frustrated when we spank 80m on Antony just for him to turn out a mid table winger even though many in that thread voiced the same concerns we are now voicing with Mount (overpriced, limited skillset, underwhelming metrics)
There's no way they turn down £55m just to let him go on loan then leave on a freeHe wants to leave and they dont have other offers
It's not the scouts job to pursue recruitment or even decide targets .If Mount had 3/4 years left on his contract I would still think £55m plus add ons was expensive. He doesn’t start for Chelsea anymore, heck even Southgate’s love affair has stopped and guess what England can finally score goals again.
He isn’t worth the money, simple as that. United need to stop this tunnel vision approach to transfers. Yet again I sit here wondering what our scouts are paid for as they never come up with anything. Other than the fact Mount has one year on his contract and there was a perception we could get him for £25-35m I can’t see why United would have bothered. To desperately need a ST and GK and see us potentially wasting over £60m on Mount is a depressing start to the transfer window.
Can they even tell if a 4 years old has a football talent? Why would he? He their academy graduate.
He has been training at Chelsea's academy since he was 4 years old. He has been playing seriously for them for nearly 18 years now.
If the guy throws toys out of the pram to leave the club that has basically been his entire life till date, I wouldn't want him within Manchester's 100-mile radius.
Right on and Mount isn't a true 'must have' that we willingly get our pants pulled down by fecking Chelsea. They have a strategic handicap on this, they must be bricking the FFP impact of losing him on a free let alone the impact of missing out on a big sale will have on their transfer designs this season and beyond so let them stew because no one is ever offering them close to 60m for Mount.Time to walk away from the deal, if we cave in now and pay what they want then everytime we go for a player the selling club will set an unrealistic value and just expect us to pay it eventually. Need to break the cycle of overpaying even if it means missing out on a few players short term
If manager wants the player 2 million is difference in valuation then I will give up 2 million but get the player manager wanted. Imagine if Mount stays and us get into cl place at the expense of United then that's unbearable situation.Time to walk away from the deal, if we cave in now and pay what they want then everytime we go for a player the selling club will set an unrealistic value and just expect us to pay it eventually. Imagine competing for a cl place with a united player in your dressing room, training and tactical discussions from january on. A pissed off, unmotivated player for the duration of the transfer window. You've turned down 55m for what is essentially a season long loan on a player that doesn't want to be there. Its a mental decision. If manager wants the player 2 million is difference in valuation then I will give up 2 million but get the player manager wanted. If rumours are true we're likely to pay around £20m less than the initial asking price with fans crying we're not walking away instead of 'caving in'
What rumours from Brazil? So it wasn't all Woodward then, we just have a recruitment team that suffers from a tunnel vision syndrome as mentioned by a poster above, Chelsea are in a pickle so move the feck on and tell the player we just can't sign him on terms being demanded by the club. It's that simple and we have other issues where we can improve on.
Anorld is CEO he should see the ramifications of just going with the manager, last time we listened to him and we are stuck with a middling winger we bought for a king's ransom who we could lose for nothing if rumors out of Brazil are true. I love ETH but we can't keep allowing him to weaken our negotiating position and busting our transfer budgets on his obsessions with average players which later impact our ability to strengthen fully.
Whilst Mount is good he is not that special that we must fixate on him for a valuable portion of the window. Just move on because 55m is already too much.
If Chelsea had set 100m asking price, would you be okay with us paying 80m?If rumours are true we're likely to pay around £20m less than the initial asking price with fans crying we're not walking away instead of 'caving in'
What rumours from Brazil?
If Chelsea had set 100m asking price, would you be okay with us paying 80m?
It’s clear that Chelsea value him at around 65-70m, that’s why they quoting him at 80m. The main thing to note is that there is literally no one else bidding for Mount. And anyother club in the PL would walk away if they were quoted 65m.
