Unfortunately my targets end up going to other clubs after I start the hype well in advance. Caicedo, Guimaraes and Tchoumeni etc..Yeah wish it was your target Caicedo
We did try not to piss ETH off for paying 85m for Antony last summer. It’s just not worth it.And we risk pissing Ten Hag off?

Chelsea have to sell, Mount is pushing, we don't really need to up anything. We can stay at the table but let mount push before they fold.So we're £10m apart, with Chelsea open to further negotiations. Another £5m-ish probably gets this done. One of our primary targets over the line, in time for pre-season and yet everyone is demanding we walk away. I get some don't fancy the player (he wasn't top of my list either), but imagine this exact situation happened last year with FDJ and the board played chicken over these amounts.
If he aint the guy, then we need to look at the people who identify our targets, but once we have decided on them, we shouldn't be pulling out at late stage negotiations to save face.
Chelsea have picked a really “strange” i.e. wrong player to make whatever point they are trying to make. Kovacic is being gifted to City. For Havertz who they bought for a lot of money they have accepted the bid. But their own academy player who is making peanuts (wages) and who cost them zero transfer fee and has 1 year left, they are making everything unnecessarily difficult for him.
Looks like this will be done, going by the tweets from BBC, Ornstein and Chelsea journalists, it's clear that they will meet and come to an agreement.
Does that matter when this is (presumably) the last window of the current regime?Just hope Utd realise that caving will make it even more difficult when negotiating future deals

We won't get Rice but there is real possibility of being able to sign the other two
We have? Do you believe that? Pretty similar to the 'final round of negotiations' before the Glazers loop again. To be fair we have said it’s our final offer

We also shouldn't be making public "take it or leave it" offers, if that isn't our intentions.
Look at the impact of going all in for the number 1 target. Instead of walking away and getting someone else than Antony, we paid 85m for him. In January we were then too broke to get a forward then there we were with weghorst. It's been said a few times but Salah wasn't Liverpool's 1st choice.
Or he won’tOr he will prove another overrated and overplayed Juan Mata.
And why would they accept that?
He's literally the opposite to Juan Mata, so how would that work?Or he will prove another overrated and overplayed Juan Mata.

Yeah! I can see Chelsea going for that! Please take our player and our money!
I agree and wiith what somebody else respnded, its why we need new owners to for a more consiistent budget as much as a bigger one.
The stories seem to say we wont walk away, which is fooolish. I think this deal goes through and its £60m+ high 50s and lower add on or vice versa.
I would rather Caqueret who I think would be nearer £40 and maybe under.....or Caicedo or Barella for more. This isnt just my personal opinion that they are all better players and offer more as a career here....I think all three bring more all round to the probably role Mount would be filling.I think Mount offers a lot in the final third for us as an attacking threar and pressing, but I think we are weakest over all parts of the middle third of the pitch end to end....the other three I feel offer far more than Mount, not just defensively either
So the £55m transfer fee now goes to the player instead of to the club that owns him, is that what you're suggesting? Why amortize the transfer fee into his salary? I doubt he's on £200k/week even if we do sign him this window instead of next. He's not "proven" in the way that Casemiro was. I certainly hope we're not starting him at £200k/week, at least! If we sign Mount on a 5 year contract we will be paying him circa £200k/week along with lets says a £55m transfer fee. Thats £107m over the course of the contract. Thats £410,000/week along with paying a large chunk of that up front. He would 100% be commanding a very high salary as a free agent.
They know we’ll cave and pay up just like we always do. See Maguire, Wan Bissaka, Antony etc etc
The fact that Macalister & Kovacic went for around £35 mil and we’re sat here still negotiating for Mount with a year left on his contract at £55/60 mil shows how incompetent we are. £40 mil should have been our take it or leave it offer, not our starting point.
And if it’s Erik pushing the club to keep going higher or pay whatever it takes to get it done then it’s an absolutely bizarre hill for him to die on.
Agreed.Caqueret is so lightweight and can be had if the club were truly interested, same for other clubs looking at better value players.
There should be more talent players, but how they all fit together and within a position based system across the PL and CL under EtH remains to be seen. I'd trust EtH, the coaches, and Murtough on understanding who their targets are and saying okay, we have access to these players and these are the fall back players. I think Mount fits well with what EtH is trying to do and it does help he's a very good English player, for a club that has been known to trust and play young, talented English players.
We stole Essien's calculator many moons ago.We started at 40, they started at 70 and they've just rejected 55. The maths isn't mathsing.
More chance it turns into a saga and we have to wait until September to get him in! The United way! What other choice do they have? He's not signing for them. Its the same as each time our player has a year left and doesnt want to stay. We have to make other arrangements
Agreed.
It seems like ten Hag wants a central player who can go from the middle third to the final third and have the intelligence to press effectively in tandem with the rest of the team. And that is what Mount provides along with being quick and agile.
Mount isn't a alternative to a deeper lying midfielder.
And I do believe the club will sign a player to occupy a deeper role in midfield as well. And this player will be someone who will be comfortable operating in the defensive third in possession as well as having the game to advance into the middle third and connect with the advanced central and wide attackers.
And hopefully Onana or another capable keeper in possession will provide the free man option in the build up phase which will hopefully make our build up smoother from deeper areas and result in the game being played in the opponent's half with the press and counter press as another weapon to break the opponent down without the ball.
How’s our track record in this department?People should also note that what we do or do not do here sets a precedent for us for the remainder of the summer - get bent over for Mount and the price of every other player we go in for goes up heftily, too.
Have to truly hope we are not this incompetent and lacking in foresight.
