I reckon it’ll be 55+5 considering the tweet said “in excess of 55m” ;)

There's no other bidders because both Arsenal and Liverpool were rejected by Mount and he wants to join United.
I think he is a very good player and the deal will be done at 55mil with add ons which I am cool with.

If Stone tweets it it's more than likely he's been let know by the club

I think the CAF in majority is apathetic or negative about the signing of mount, I myself was not initially excited about the prospect, however the more I think about it the more his signing makes perfect sense

First of all I think you have to ignore last season, as Chelsea as a team were dire, much as we were the season before that, if you look at his 21/22 stats he was one of the best mids in the league up with Bruno and DeBruyne

Mount is hella versatile he can easily cover LW so Rashford can play as a striker, as alternative to Garnacho, RW for Antony will actually stay right and provide some crosses, AM cover for Bruno and more importantly Eriksen who clearly cannot manage 60 games per season, right now he is a better option than Sancho and Martial on either wing, and Amad and Pellistri (although they have plenty to come I am sure).

In addition Mount is comfortable and capable alongside Casemiro in DM and right now would be the best fit to stand in for him when he misses however many games next season through suspension, he is a clear upgrade of Fred and McT in any area of the pitch.

In summary he is basically able to provide cover for every midfield position, offers something different to Antony, is a clear upgrade on Sancho, Martial, Fred, McT and right now Amad and Pellistri, he is 24 years old, English and will cost south of £60m, he is also 1.81m tall which okay is not towering but improves our height stats a little

If ETH can get the best out of Mount, and get him back to form, as per Rashford, Shaw, Dalot, AWB and Bruno then £60m is going to look like the best buy of the summer

Sounds like we've briefed, maybe to try and help get the message across. It will be accepted either way.

I think it makes more sense signing Mount than, say, Kovacic on an age basis. We don't want a midfield entirely composed of players in or entering their 30s leaving us having to basically do a full midfield rebuild in a couple of years.

For his technical ability I think he's pretty good and obviously a lot of raving about his off the ball work which will be so important in helping to stop teams waltzing through our midfield like they were doing last season.

Personally I'm quite excited by what he can bring to the team. I'm not that fussed about cost as long as it doesn't prevent the team filling other important areas of need.

Wouldn't be surprised if they reject this given the Saudi funding they've tapped into/Kovacic sale.

Considering they are selling Harvetz who has two years left for 60m. 55m is more than a fair price.

At least we are drawing a line under it and attempting not be dragged into an endless saga. Let's see if we mean it.

If I was United I would say the second bid was the final offer...play the long game.

If Chelsea change their mind then great, if not then United can speak to Mount around Christmas and offer him a bumper salary if EtH wants him so badly.

Focus on a GK + CF

So if this doesn't happen, I think it will personally, I wonder who we'd be going for instead.
Some rumours about Caciedo, but everyone seems to want him. Maybe we’ll step up the interest in Rabiot again.

Seems like we have stopped the "playing the long game" on transfers following the De Jong farce last year. Look at Kane, enquiry made, no joy, move onto next target.

Why do we always overpay for players that play in positions that aren't the biggest concern

How is midfield not one of our biggest concerns? Our midfield often gets ran through, Fred isn't good enough and neither is McTominay, Eriksen has no athleticism. It's a top priority along with GK and ST. It honestly just looks like Mount is the first one because we're looking to take advantage of the situation with Mount's final year on his contract, his willingness to push it through, and Chelsea's need to sell by the end of the month.

They sold Havertz who only has 2 years left for 65 mill, Mount has that English tax too. The market isn't the same as it once was it just is what it is

I hope we are genuinely going to call their bluff and walk away if they reject this third offer. I don't want this being done for £70million. I like Mount but he's not that irresistibly good for us to crumble to another club's extortionate demands yet again. I'd perhaps make an exception for Kane, but certainly not Mount.

£55m is a fair price with him only having 1 year left, if its rejected I do hope we walk away. We've got to stop over paying for players even if it means missing out on our top targets short term

I think most people had midfield as one of our biggest concerns going into this transfer window. Behind CF sure, but definitely within the top three positions that needed improvement.

55 million is a decent price, i hope we stand on 55 million price, as a club we should learn to stand firm on price and move on for the alternatives.

He wants to come so he’ll be trying to push it through. Ben Chilwell seemed certain he was leaving when he spoke to Martin Brundle the other week at the F1.

I think Chelsea will accept the offer. It's a good offer and probably the best they can get right now. He's not important enough and they're not exactly desperate for him to stay they would be willing to let him go for a free next summer, which I suspect is something Spurs are willing to do with Kane.

I'm pretty sure Mount is comfortable and capable to stand in for GK as well.

Mitten said the same yesterday on a podcast. There’s solid interest but Chelsea don’t want to let a fan favourite leave on the cheap in case he does great at United, at the same time United know that Sterling went for what they’re offering in his last year at City.

Well for some he isn't the midfielder they wanted and some actually don't even believe he is CM they see him more Suited to Bruno's position .

I used to be one of those but after reading about his attributes on here and what he can bring to United , I have come around to the idea of him being a very shrewd purchase and the way transfer fees are going at moment I don't think at 55m if it gets done at that is a bad deal at all for home grown young English talent from our direct rivals .

Would be a blessing in disguise if Chelsea stay stubborn and we walk away imo. Better use that money to get a good CF and GK first.

Except we often say that and then go back with a higher offer after, Chelsea probably know this

When did we do this? I don't remember briefing "this is our last offer" and then making one more bid.

I don't think that's ever happened either, It's just a way to shit on the club, don't take it seriously.
