I like him as a player and I'm not arsed on the fee. But he looks scared. Have a fecking crack mate.

The fact that this channel is so quiet speaks volumes.

again…

An attacking midfielder whose main strengths are “neat and tidy” is a damning indictment.

should be nowhere near the first team… just as 99% of United fans would have said before we signed him.

a complete waste of money.

I don't know if the problem is him or that he doesn't quite know what he's meant to be doing

At time the team looks an absolute shambles.

Play him instead of Bruno not alongside. He’s playing better.
Yeah I wanna see:
Hojlund
Garnacho Mount Rashford?
I dunno

Midfield of anything just put Bruno deep and then hope amrabat or casemiro can fill that spot. I don't think Mount is playing badly, moreso just it's a huge question mark how to fit the players in.

It’s also a remarkably stupid thing to say. If Mount chips in with 7+ assists for the season in the PL and a few goals it’s a decent return from a No8 - especially in a debut season in a new role in a team that’s a rollercoaster.

Saw similar comments about Hoijlund "if he gets close to double figures in his first season goals wise".

Why are we so stat laden in terms of what we want from players?

Also totally disagree, this is a player we spent £50m odd on who only had ayear left on his contract, has won the CL, premiership experience and player in major finals for his country.

We should expect a major contribution from that kind of signing, I know its just a shirt number and a poisoned chalice it seems nowadays, but he was given the 7 jersey, that should say somethign about the expectations.

Personally, far too early to judge him and he is obviously a good player, has shown it before. But at the time we signed him, never understood why we signed him and it appears so far, it is to play alongside Fernandes and t isnt really workign so far anyway.....I think he can become a good signing if it is to compete and take Fernandes spot in the team....even then he wouldnt have been at the top of my personal choices

I thought he was meh for Chelsea and for England so it's no shock that he's meh for us. No clue why we bought him other than spreadsheet accountancy culture.

I have high hopes for him still. I think he will come good eventually

I buy into that line of thinking for a striker - there’s always context but it’s a role where your job is either scoring or assisting.

An 8 could run every game and have 9/10 performances for 38 games without ever assisting it scoring (it’s likely they’d chip in obviously) but the point is it’s more about how they’ve played. Very hard to look at stats and compare players (even strikers).

Has not been utilized properly yet. Play him without Bruno.

He’s playing exactly how he’s always played everytime I’ve ever watched him for Chelsea & England. Neat & tidy, always working hard for the team. Usually a solid 6/10 each week. But he’s not a standout player. He’s not a player to build your team around. He’s a solid, very likeable, hardworking squad player. Why we thought he was worth spending £60 million pounds on and making him the centrepiece of our midfield is anyones guess. Was baffling then. And is baffling now.

Should play on right side instead of Bruno. Mainoo and Hannibal should have more chances centrally

How could any DOF sanction this move? He wasn't needed but we spent most of the summer chasing him.

To be honest I feel like he's Donny Van De Beek mark 2. He'd look better if we were a pressing team but we're not, so like Van De Beek, he just doesn't do a whole lot.

:wenger: working hard, running a lot, these should the bare minimum standard for every man united player but because our standards have fallen so bad we praise players for working hard, running a lot while add nothing to the game. Beckham was a hardworking player but people remember him for his cross and set piece excellence, that he added one or two things into the game and that should be every man united player of every era. praising player for nothing but hard work is like praising employee to turn up to office every morning. We need more, our players need to show more.

I like Mount. I like Bruno. But I don’t like Mount-Bruno in the same XI.

Perhaps I should be more direct about it — Mount-Bruno in the same XI is a fukking disaster.

Mount doesn't work with Bruno, neither does he out-perform him as an 8 or 10. I cannot understand why we prioritised him and paid that silly transfer fee. The players are probably flabbergasted too.

Don’t you think our pressing looks better this season, at least before the team runs out of gas? It feels like we’re better at setting traps and jumping into action at the right times, and Mount has particularly good anticipation there. Klopp just said about his team last year that “we’re an aggressive team, but an aggressive team without timing is basically the worst thing you can be”.

I think Mount and Hojlund have made us a more aggressive team, and Mount has much better timing than Bruno. As a team we aren’t particularly good at it but I thought there were green shoots this year, and if we can pick up a bit of momentum, confidence and score a few goals from springing a trap, we could see this team transform into a really effective pressing unit. I don’t remember feeling that way last year.

I think statistically we're among the best pressers in the league this season, or at least the most active.

I must admit I agree that we've showed signs of it being better, especially at the start of certain games and it's stopped when we've conceded/run out of gas.

It's no coincidence that Mount has looked at his best during these spells either.

That’s incredible! I’m assuming we weren’t particularly good at it last year? You could see early on against wolves with the 4141 type setup that we were trying something very different, and the players didn’t really know what they were doing. They might never know what they’re doing, it might be a terrible idea, but it leaves open the possibility that these are just extreme teething pains.

Mount and Hojlund are notably better in that phase and haven’t settled in at all. Players like Rashford and Bruno haven’t fully jumped on board yet. It makes things look disjointed and careless now, but it is the sort of thing that can just click, and then people start noticing the pressing that’s currently being overlooked now.

Agreed! Not sure how much it means but I’ll take any green shoots we can get at this point

What position did we buy Mount for?

Number 10? In which case we have to move Bruno out of position?

Or just as a utility squad player that can slot in a few positions?

I think common scene tells you EtH bought him as a replacement for Eriksen.

Not saying I agree or it was the correct decision...but that's the answer your question.

@Sparky Rhiwabon

True he is playing more advanced than where typically Eriksen plays in a United shirt. But that's a different question to the one I was answering.

Paying 55m for Mount under the circumstances was and still looks like an absolute lunacy decision.

The fee is neither here nor there for me, its arguably a bargain for a player with his experience, at his age, if he can contribute, even as a reliable squad player.

He's more in the type of profile of player I'd like to see at the club, that's for sure. I know people won't agree with me, but I like solid, reliable footballers who work hard. They're the platform you build on, add a couple of superstars into the mix and you've got a title winning team.

People look back at some of SAFs team and think "how did he win the league with that squad?". Its because the base level of all the players was a 7. Lads like Park, Fletcher, Brown, O'Shea, the Neville's etc....you knew what you were getting, every single week.

For too long, we've been suckered by players like Martial, Rashford, Pogba...arguably even to some extent, Bruno (although I like him). Players who are capable of moments of sheer genius and 10/10 performances, but who throw in weeks of dross.

I think he'll come good and be a good signing for us, in time. Certainly not fair to judge him on this chaotic start, especially playing wide and with having had an injury.

Ditto. Keep De Gea and add the Onana and Mount fees you get someone like Rice or some other transformative midfielder in addition to Hoijlund and you can field a more balanced side. The opportunity cost of those two signings is the difference between maintaining our CL place and wherever we land at the end of the season. Can't believe that he was allowed to waste money like this.

If I had to guess, I'm assuming it's the later because our pressing is still garbage imo. Brentford played through our press many times and if they had better quality could have had 3-5 really good chances attacking our goal. We definitely commit the number of players but the way we do it, with the angles and actual effectiveness, it leans more on the 'head down, run forward towards the player' first rather than borne out of good tactical shape/game intelligence.

As for Mount, I can see he has ability but he's just not involved in the game enough for me. Part of that is due to our style and shite ball progression and part of it is also how high up he positions himself. Someone said DVB and it's true; the technique is there but at what cost if you're not on the ball?

Never understood the signing in the first place, we have Bruno and Eriksen to fill the role of the playmaker. We needed a commanding midfielder who could dominate a midfield.

It's almost like Chelsea offered him to us and we just snatched their hands off without thinking it through. A little like when we signed Sanchez even though Martial and Rashford were fighting it out for the spot on the left at that time.

I'm probably in minority or the only one but he was solid, active, tried to find openings, had a good shot, was pretty good in pressing.

Shame most people's minds is already turned up about him being a waste of money and they'll probably wont and dont want to change their minds.

Completely agree.

I have a theory that the incessant negativity on here is a by-product of people's desperation to be 'proved right' and to be able to say 'I told you so' on the Internet.

Brian Clough once said "it's much easier to put your foot through a Picasso than to paint one".

Likewise, it's much easier to be 'right' if you're down on everything that the club does from the outset.

It's very rare that any club or manager makes a decision than is universally acknowledged as a 100% success, so the negative folk have the advantage for sure.

I remember when fans used to be excited about new signings. Now there's a pile-on waiting to say "what a terrible waste of money, it'll never work"

I have plenty of issues with ETH tactically, but I actually like all of his signings, insofar as they are the right profile (with the exception of Casemiro - no more RM castoffs, thanks!)
