10 games left of the season, lucky the international break happens when it does because he'll still need at least a few games to hit match fitness again.
Could be crucial in the last few months of the season. Still don’t understand where he fits in the team though. We’re obviously more solid with Casemiro and Mainoo in the middle.
Should be replacing/rotating Bruno Fernandes as the final midfielder, really. I think we might see a few times where he's playing instead of Mainoo which doesn't seem like it'll work, and I think we might see a game once or twice where one of he or Fernandes play wide right, which also doesn't seem like it'll work.

Ye he should be. Maybe we should try like a 4-3-2-1 and have him and Fernandes in AM behind Hojlund. Both them midfielders like to get in behind aswell. It means scrapping the wingers but they offer nothing much anyway except maybe Garnacho. I’ve seen teams play a back 3 and have 2 behind the ST which can work depending on opponent.

I hope Ten Hag doesn't bench Mainoo in favor of giving Mount gametime. Also have 0 hope of Mainoo, Mount and Bruno being a balanced trio in any way. So basically.... Meh?

That doesn't work unless you have extremely dynamic midfielders (we don't) and wing backs who can run entire flanks on their own (we don't).

You need width. Or you need players who can act like wingers. Garnacho has literally been our player of the season, and you're saying bench him? People these days...

Is he now ready to play? If so, that is good news. Ease him into a few games, and hopefully he can make an impact. I would take off Bruno for him. I also hope that ETH is very clear in his mind as to how he wants Mason Mount to play in this Man Utd team.

He should be nowhere near the centre of the park. Play him as a 10 or out wide or don’t play him at all. We all seen how it worked out playing him as an 8 and shoehorning him into a midfield with Casemiro and Bruno before he got injured, It was a disaster. That said we look wide open regardless of what midfield combination we play so that might not solely be a Mount issue.

Guys, he’s not going to play instead of Bruno. You’re just setting yourself up for disappointment. If anything he’ll replace McTominay.

I’d have played him out on the right instead of Antony but Garnacho seems to have made that spot his own. So that’s one less position he can take now. Just a bizarre signing all round. The only way it makes sense was if ETH was looking to replace Bruno but that’s clearly not the case. Shows how important it is to sort this new football structure out asap and take the decision making on transfers out of the managers hands.

Maybe not replace, but rotate. How about Mount in the 10 with Casimero and Mainoo? Or SMT? Or Amrabat? May as well try it, why not? How else can we judge things? At least give it 30 mins here and there because we will not be any more average than we are now. Taking Bruno out of the equation should not be seen as something completely off the table... I see both KDB and Salah on the bench, and occasionally substituted, and the world of Citeh' and pool' doesn't collapse. So why not Bruno?? He needs replacing at times, it's so obvious. He isn't irreplaceable and that's not a bad thing.

I hope he finishes the season well and expect he will get some game time no doubt. Out on the left as Rashford gets subbed often as it is, combined with midfield minutes-in place of McTominay and also giving Mainoo a breather when needed

I wasn’t saying that at all… was trying to come up with solutions how to fit in a 60m signing… or are we putting it down to another waste of money like the VDB signing was? 2 midfielders we’ve signed without a scooby doo where to play them. No plan whatsoever.

Mctominay is a bench player if Hojlund is fit. If we're being honest, the most likely thing that Ten Hag does is the thing most likely for fans to turn on him more, which is bench the 18 year old for the big money signing who has been injured. Easiest choice, Ten Hag thinks it can work based on how he started the season so he'll try and force it. Certainly don't think there's a hope in hell of Mainoo behind Mount and Bruno working (and don't think there's a chance with Case there but I can see the logic of why he'd think it might).

Mount will make no difference to our season. And I'm saying that as someone who probably rates him more than most as a player. But he's a completely irrelevant signing when his only position that he's ever excelled in, is covered for us by our captain who has an impeccable injury record and the manager isn't going to bench.

Half expecting ETH to try the Casemiro, Mount and Bruno midfield again ffs.

Mainoo is just the easiest one to drop even though it shouldn’t happen.

Mount won't start after so long surely. Hel probably come off the bench.

I think the only way both he and Bruno works is if you do something like the below:

Onana
Varane Maguire Martinez
Dalot____Casemiro___Mainoo___Shaw
___Mount_________Bruno
Hojlund

..Which will never work as we leave out Garnacho and Rashford but with those 2 playing together, they need 2 defensive minded players in behind them.

By June it would probably work out that we paid 55m to have him 15 games earlier.

I do think Mount's quite a good player, and I personally understand the transfer fee as he was only available at that price because he had a year on his deal. Otherwise, an England international going between Chelsea and United would have been a lot more. We could have gambled on getting him on a free this summer, but then we'd probably have had more competition - including the possibility of him agreeing terms to stay at Chelsea during those 12 months. So we took advantage of the situation and bought him while we could.

That bit I get. Whether he was the right kind of midfield addition, when we already have Fernandes, is a more valid question mark about the signing for me? How ETH planned to play with them both I'm not sure, though we'd probably have a much better idea by now but for his injury.

The injury has been very unfortunate, as it's increased the length of time before we can see any 'positive' signs of him in a United shirt. I'm interested to see how it works should be return - though we also need some #9 and left footed defender options back as well before we get a good idea of how the first XI might work with everyone available.

He probably should do it for the odd game. Mainoo's form has dropped off recently, and he should get the occasional rest for his own good.

Whether Mount performs well enough for that to be an option is another story. The likes of McTominay and Amrabat haven't.

This is what he was bought for and why we were happy to sell McT and Fred during the summer. Bruno isn’t getting dropped, neither is Rashford as much as he annoys me. The manager is going to live or die by these players and he’s right to stick to his guns. It’s his ass on the line. He and his team see these guys every day

I imagine it will be bruno out wide, rashford up top, garnacho out wide, mount behind the striker, and then mainoo and case with mct as the first sub. (but mount comes on as sub before he starts)

He’s a good player. Obviously not top class like a Phil Foden, but he’s the sort of player a top team would be more than happy to have in a group. I actually feel he is a far superior version of the role Scott McTominay has been performing this season really, and would be happy enough for him to get those sort of minutes here - but I wouldn’t plan on building a United XI with him a firm fixture in it. In a United XV though, certainly.

Or Mainoo should go back to the 6 role where he's much more effective, with Mount and Bruno as the 8s as we saw during pre season.

Yeah let's do that exact system that looked so fecking ruinous with Casemiro. Mainoo the 18 year old will be absolutely fine on his own with Bruno and Mount 50 yards away hiding behind defenders.

When fully fit, I'd like to see the midfield three that played during pre-season.

Mount Bruno
Mainoo
Next season, get a 6 and 8.
Don’t think Mount and Bruno can work together in them roles. Mainoo will be left on his own every time we’re getting attacked on.

Where does Hojlund fit into this? He’s meant to be returning for the Liverpool game. If he’s fit then he starts up top with Garnacho right and Rashford left.
