It's not lazy nonsense, modern teenagers are not feral like your 80's generation but it is common knowledge that modern teenagers have less time for rules and authority. That is the point am making.

That is exactly what Greenwood has demonstrated both in Iceland and obviously at United going by the media stories.

Greenwood knows what rules apply to him at United and England but decided to go against the rules deliberately. I see this in kids all the time.

Is it? since when?

Or could it be that modern young footballers are at higher risk of exposure due to how quick news can travel because of social media and the like.

Your comment about rules and authority has probably been made by every generation about the "modern generation" since the beginning of time. I'm sure you and your mates were perfect little angels that never once got into trouble when you were a kid.

A bunch of them is a bit of an overstatement. They hired high end escorts who decided to leak information about the encounter, complaining about how they were only interested in fecking them.
Well, that's backwards isn't it. Can't have your cake and not put up. The money that would have been spent towards a possible date were pocketed by themselves to show up and skip all that so how are they going to complain? That's unprofessional.

I guess I just don't buy that modern kids are more 'out of control' than any other generation of kids were. Greenwood has done some daft stuff, but he'd have to do a lot worse to demonstrate he has 'less time for rules and authority' than young players of previous generations. As I said above, Greenwood's equivalents in previous generations regularly found themselves on the wrong side of the law and the police, never mind the rules of the club and the manager.

Even leaving out the salacious stuff, a cursory reading of any 90s or 2000s United player's autobiography will reveal a level of disregard for club rules both by young players and senior players that far exceeds anything Greenwood has done. The main difference is that in the absence of social media, camera phones etc. it was far easier to keep the (non-criminal) stuff internal to the club rather than splashed across the back pages. Whilst on the one hand as a professional he has a degree of responsibility for understanding and managing that additional visibility and scrutiny, it's yet another level of added pressure on top of all the usual things young players at top clubs deal with and kids will always make the odd mistake.
So in essence you agree with me that kids have a problem with rules and authority regardless of which generation.

Of course that's a fact. These girls sold their story that's how we came to know about it.

How many did not sell their stories that we don't know of?

My point is most young footballers do stupid things

So you contradict your earlier post.

Give it a rest mate. Ronaldo hired prostitutes.

Describing them as high class escorts doesn't change the fact that they were prostitutes.

From memory when Anderson and Nani first joined us and were living with him he hired a bunch of hookers for all of them. I guess you could say he was just being a good host.
i would say Nani got the Escort , Anderson got the mega bucket from KFC

There's no contradiction, there's a vast difference between "doing it all the time" and the one time it was mentioned, not to mention that there never were an off the pitch antics that had a detrimental effect on his training.

People talk about Ronaldo like he was living like a monk.

The lad was hiring prostitures all the time and had such stories splashed over all the tabloids then. Fergie knew it but probably realised that he was still a young boy and let him do his talking on the pitch.

Greenwood for whatever he does in his private life must not let his performances drop on the pitch. He can only silence his critics that way.
Well put. It’s time for him to start acting like the professional doe which he is paid well. Hopefully it’s just a spate of bad decisions, we will soon see.

That’s a term of endearment in some countries.

It's his decision if he wants to be a star and he has all the tools to become one or an average footballer who will change clubs more often than socks. He has world under his feet so to say it's only he can make his career great if he buckles down and works. I know he's young but he should look up to Rashford or on the other hand look at Morrison's career how it paned out.

Not that it matters at all, but - he has such an unlikable face.

And I repeat from other threads...

We really don't deserve nice things as a fan base sometimes. He's a kid, he'll make mistakes. Get behind him. Rashford is helping to feed kids and he's still getting stick.

Is there an element of racism at play here? Would a 100% white player (apologies for the clumsy wording) be getting as much stick? Would every move he made be over analysed?

I really don’t think so, Ronny was dragged alot.

Again the same nonsense. Greenwood is extremely talented, has a big future, hence will be analyzed more.
Pogba is supposedly a top player, cost like hell, and hence analyzed more than others

Shaw gets a lot of stick, Lindelof gets a lot of stick, Maguire gets a lot of stick. Just go and look in their respective threads.

Rooney went through something similar, he's made some dumb mistakes and the rags smell blood add that he plays for United he's always going to be a target. Guess it's up to him to change it around (if any of what's being reported is true) Just want to see him on the pitch at this point as soon as that happens and he bags a few this will all blow over.

Yeah, I think it's more a Man. United thing than anything else, our players come under a lot of heat constantly. You really can't feck up at United because the media will be on you like hawks. Maybe I'm not reading enough in to it and am being a bit too naive.

Out of curiosity, what age does he stop being "just a kid"?

Hopefully now, he's just missed two games, let's hope this gets some kind of positive response.

It's probably because he's one of the biggest talents in football. I don't think every story is true but if there's enough our there then as fans it's justified to be slightly concerned. Greenwood is crucial for our future success and we need him to not waste his talent. And it's hardly as though the a rarity in football. The good thing is that his attitude on the pitch is always good which instill confidence.

So annoying.

Covid protocol broke, likely prostitutes hired and allegedly multiple instances of tardiness reported all within a one month period. Wouldn't be so bad if the England event was some one time event, but to actually come home then offer a public apology and proceed to have worse personal professionalism is troubling. Usually when you're told off there's an immediate period of improvement in attitude to offset the embarrassment of the act apologised for, but if anything his conduct has just rolled on.

I just hope that it clicks in his mind very quickly that although he's been brilliant he hasn't made it yet. Not yet. More work, more professionalism. The earlier the better, especially if he wants to be at the level Haaland and Mbappe are at.

Ronaldo was always about scoring, if not on the pitch, it's off it. It's the level of dedication our players should have. Just score wherever you can.

No one thinks that he could actually have a 'niggle'?

Is that a euphemism?

Do you remember when Cristiano held a 'welcoming party' for Nani and Ando that the Sun got wind of?

This is where the likes of Maguire & Bruno also need to step up and show their true leadership & character by helping the manager for this kind of situation. I think Pogba, Mata, Matic & DDG as the senior players also need to help. Lingard, Rashford & Scott more of the senior academy also need to get involved.

Manchester United don't need him to be successfull. He needs Manchester United to be successfull.

If he choose to be stupid then so be it. He should get one or maximum two chances and if he can't get it right then he isn't worth the trouble. We should be a club that don't accept these kind of things. That is if everything in the press is true.

He needs to give his head a wobble. I appreciate he's only 19 and at times will still do stupid stuff, but he needs to realise the position that he is in. There's huge pressure with being a professional footballer, let alone one playing for this club. Nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.

He can go one of two ways. He can go the Ravel Morrison, Januzaj, Macheda etc route, or he can go the Ronaldo, Rooney and Rashford route. Whichever way he goes will not be through a lack of talent, but the hard work and discipline he instils in himself just like the likes of Ronaldo and Rooney did. If his attitude is at all suspect, then he won't make it, and wont have anyone else to blame but himself.

He'll be turning out for Sunderland in a few years.
There are so many times on this site where I'll type out a response and then realise 'nah no one probably cares' or 'this is a stupid thing to say' and delete it. I wish more people did that.

It’s not over the top to say he’s fecked up a lot lately but it’s way too early to even consider that he’s going to chuck his career down the pan. I do hope he gets his shit together rapidly as his behaviour is annoying and could cost us points along the way.

I really hope he starts on Saturday and bangs a few goals in so we can get back to talking about how talented this kid is, i could see Ole putting him in that starting , his hangover has passed and he will be ready to go.
