Mary Earps | signs for PSG

Don't think it's got anything to do with or is in any way exclusive women's football.

Just a feeling, could be wrong.

The contracts in the women’s game are shorter and free transfers happen a lot more regularly. Feels like some people are blaming the players as if they are running their contracts down and aiming to leave for free. As that’s the narrative often when male players do it. But it’s pretty obvious there are many other things going on behind the scenes, unfortunately. And those things are ignored or not known to fans who don’t really follow the women’s team. That’s what I meant by that.

I understand what you mean. I just think you get that sort of reaction, myself included when anyone who is important leaves I think.

Guess you’re right. Just feels like every member here who actually follows the women’s team knows it’s deeper than just the player wanting more money etc.

I know. I'm not conflating.

I'm saying that she can hardly talk when she's compromising her morals to go and get a payday from the Qatari regime.

This kind of sweeping moral judgement is completely ridiculous at the best of times - made even worse by reports that United actually offered her more to stay!

Without much evidence, it feels like it’s mainly those who don’t really follow the women’s team and what happens around that. You know, supporters who more or less only watch and support the men’s team without being aware or caring about what really goes on when it comes to the women’s team.

I do wonder what the venn diagram, of supporters who are shitting on said players and supporters excusing INEOS for their handling of the womens team so far, looks like.

Bad CL debut for her with PSG....they have lost 1-3 against Juventus in the first-leg.

I wish both Mary and Alessia the best. Particularily Mary, who has been a stalwart for United. I don’t think many who blame them for disloyalty are really aware of the conditions for women who try to make a living out of football, and who try to achive their absolute best in an changing and unpredictable environment of an undersubsidized but rapidly expanding world sport.

It all feels a bit of a come down from last season. Not a great start of the season for her or PSG. She's even lost her automatic starter job for England.

Also a bit of a comedown for PSG. This time last season they were beating United at the Parc de Princes to go through to the WCL group stage.
They got to the semifinals before losing to Lyon. This time they went out in front of a crowd of 800 at their mini stadium.

Folks, be kind, women football is losing momentum everywhere (apart of the US) and your lady had to find a job elsewhere after United downsize.

Why is she walking away like Connor McGregor
Joking aside, I do wonder what it's doing to her confidence.

After the highs with England at the Euros and becoming one of the most visible Lionesses, she's had a difficult few months.

Pre-United she had a year at Wolfsburg where she didn't establish herself in the first team. She's said herself that it took her time to rebuild her confidence after that and after a couple of errors cost her a place in the England team. She also said that United and the United fans helped her get her nerve back.

Tough job being a keeper.

Agreed. She wasn't in the best of form last season either. It will be interesting to see if she can regain her form in unfamiliar circumstances in Paris. From our point of view we might've actually gotten stronger with her leaving, but that is of course too early to tell. Earps probably was a big personality in the dressing room, which could be a hard thing to replace. I am pretty optimistic about Tullis-Joyce on the pitch, though.
