Thanks, was wondering whether it was regards to the position he was played in or something. He’s had ca. 20 or so starts in each of the last two PL seasons I think. IMO that is pretty ok for a player of his age and performance.

Yeah it is. It all comes down to hard work really. Just look at Ronaldo for example, came to us a scrawny teenager but improved drastically in just 2/3 years. 15 years on he’s one of the all time greats.
Rooney on the other hand, came to us and started immensely. Was a brilliant player for years, but ultimately dropped off because he clearly couldn’t be arsed. Fully expect Ronaldo to be a David Beckham type when he retires, still modelling underwear and running a business. Where as you can imagine Rooney being 16+ stone within a few years of retiring
Anyway, with Martial he’s clearly extremely talented but he just looks like he can’t be bothered working hard. He could easily be one of the worlds best if he just knuckled down and didn’t let his head drop. I personally hope he stays and that exact scenario happens.
The icing on the cake is "under SAF he would have been something else".
His laziness, ball watching and failing to track back would have been like a magnet to Fergie's hairdryer. Martial would have lasted 2 minutes under the great man.
This is the same man that didn't close to trust Pogba for the exact same reasons and who got rid of much better players for much less.

Not to mention a man who loved grafters like Valencia and routinely picked him over a more exciting flair player in Nani which I remember being a source of much debate on the Caf. Same man who often picked Park for big matches over more talented attacking players.
You can blame Jose for alot, but the notion that it's entirely his fault Martial hasn't been able to shine as we hoped after his 1st season is nonsense. If Martial is such a supreme talent then he needs to show it far more often than he has even when given opportunities.

I'm sorry if anyone who replaced Martial had done what Martial did in the first half of the season, no one would be criticizing Mourinho. Sanchez was allowed to be continuously crap, why was that?

If you want to look at Fergie's record, how about Berbatov, Veron and early Ronaldo? All three were frustrating and/or work-shy but Fergie showed faith in them all.
But the wider point is that Fergie's man-management skills were so good that players were happy to work for him. Mourinho falls rather short on that front.
I don’t understand why people want Mourinho out - well I do, but it’s extremely short-sighted and an ill-advised stance to have right now IMO. It’s going to take at least another two seasons for him to close this chapter of our club that we’ve been trying to close for the last 5 seasons. He’s the right man to close this chapter and open a new one. Any manager that comes in now will struggle big time.
Not sure why you’re bring the manager into this argument anyway. He’s not of much relevance to my point.
I think we keep him for one more season and give him a last chance to earn his spot. Same as with Shaw. The time for potential is over.
Martial went eight games without a goal, prior to his sensational three goals in December, then thirteen games without a goal after.
People only seem to remember Martial's good games. Somewhat understandable I guess, as he clearly has the potential to be amazing and we all want him to succeed. But up to his point he's definitely been a player where you get two or three poor games for every one where he performs.
He wasn’t even first choice himself when Sanchez was signed. This is another thing conveniently overlooked. He’d been rotating with Rashford and had at no point made the position his own.
You're asking what Martial has done lately. So surely it's fair to ask what Mourinho has done over the same period, no?
To be fair to Martial no one seems able to though. No matter who plays in attack no one seems able to sustain any sort of consistant form. Lukaku has been similarly streaky and had a worse season compared to his last with Everton, Sanchez has been really poor and Rashfords also struggled. All of them are looking utterly replacable roght now which has to raise questions how they're being coached.

Well, no, because the narrative is Sanchez came in and unjustly robbed Martial of his rightful place. Fact is Martial hadn’t even secured the position.

According to almost every source Ronaldo has always been an absolute machine on the training ground. He's always been the first to arrive and the last to leave. That's exactly the kind of player Fergie could mould.
Berbatov and Veron were both (to different degress) flops and were binned off because of this when they should have been in their prime.
You look at the list of lazy or distracted footballers under Fergie and none of them lasted long. Whether it was the players early on which were more interested in pub culture than winning trophies, the likes of Beckham who were more interested in showbiz or the likes of Pogba who thought he was too good to perform well in the reserves.
On the flip side Fergie had tremendous success with hard workers... His teams were always built around players with tremendous work ethics unlike Martial.

Mourinho doesn’t get the most out of our attacking players nor does he inspire them to play with bravery and freedom. If you can’t see that then we have nothing to discuss.

Its quite common when defending Martial to downplay Lukaku. Probably because Martial is perceived as skill full and technical, while Lukaku has a shite first touch and is outperforming him which doesn't fit into the view of football a lot of fans have (where they massively overrate what players do on the ball).
Lukaku was not streaky, his overall game has been consistently improving as the season went on. The only thing streaky was his goal output, which was because of the shocking service he got when Pogba was out injured. He isn't Ronaldo or Messi, he is reliant on getting the ball in dangerous areas.
Lukaku, Sanchez and Lingard all play with bravery and freedom.

I don't know why you keep using Pogba as an example, Fergie fought tooth and nail to keep him and history has clearly shown that Pogba was well within his right to believe in himself.
Martial will thrive elsewhere and be one of the best attackers in the world. He doesn't want to be here though so feck him and his shit attitude.

I don't care if he leaves, I think he's a little knob. But what I am worried about is who we're going to bring in when he leaves.
Words and actions are very different things. If you visibly can’t see how limited our attacking play is, then again, nothing to discuss.
He's wrong on Lukaku, but interchange Rashford, Martial, Sanchez, from last season and any one of them were distinctly poor.
