Martial | Loan Speculation

If you look at the stats when Martial is one the pitch vs Lingard...we are around 80% to be in a winning position when Martial is on the pitch. Lingard 27%.
The games Lingard was picked ahead of Martial, we dropped crucial points vs Stoke, Sunderland, West Ham, Burnley and Chelsea I think. 4 of these were at home.

Lingard isn't his only competition though is he?

We have some really good players who can operate off the flanks like Mkhitaryan, Mata, even Rashford as we saw at West Ham on Monday. I would argue that at least two of those three have had better seasons than Martial. Why would we automatically start him ahead of them if he's off form?

Its the same player though?!

He is the same player, but his performances have been no where near comparible. Last year he was consistently brilliant, then something happened over the summer and this year we've only seen flashes of his brilliance.

You are obviously a huge fan mate, and fair dues, but the simple fact of the matter is he hasn't deserved to start every game.

He's young and inconsistency is 100% normal with players his age. What's annoying is his agent poking his nose in and making noise like he should be treated like Ronaldo or Messi.

Hopefully he's back on track and tomorrow he puts in another great performance   :D

Martial was not off form. He was doing better than Rooney, who WAS off form.

Martial has not played at his best for months, so by his standards, he was off form. I agree Rooney was too, which is why he was dropped. They both played their way out of the first XI.

Based on form, why did Martial deserve to start over Mkhitaryan, Mata or Rashford anymore than Rooney did?

Rooney was ruining every attack. Martial wasn't.

There are some players who deserve to start every game because they are world class players. Martial is one.

Martial wasn't changing games. Rashford, Mata, Mhki showed more. That's why they made it back more quickly. I don't see why that's hard to understand.

Martial had only started 7 league games before Christmas.
Given that he was possibly our best player last season, I don't think 7 starts is enough time to say he played his way out of the starting 11.

Wouldn't stress too much about him. He was great against Boro and has been working hard for the team in recent games. Reckon he's turned the corner.

He wasn't involved in the warmup against West Ham which would suggest he was possibly still feeling the effects of that kick he got against Boro. I think Mourinho only wanted to use him if he had to.

I fully expect him to be first choice and to start against Liverpool.

And Rashford, Mkh, Lingard were changing games? Maybe they were...for the worse. Lingard win percentage 27%.

Rashford = Awful this season
Mkh = frozen out until December

Happened on some highlights of the Boro game. Worst thing about Ibra's goal being ruled out is that we didn't get to see lots of replays of the build-up: Martial's 30 yard rocket onto the post and then his beautiful croqueta to beat Chambers and create the space for the cross. Lovely little passage of play.

Apparently we have to give Monaco another 10 million when Martial scores his 25 th goal for the club. Yesterday's was the 23rd, I do hope we're not pissing about trying to delay that additional payment by playing him sporadically. Doesn't seem to be the sort of thing we'd do though.

Yeah, we don't actually want him to score goals. When he gets to 24 we will probably have to retire him.

We're not West Ham. Jose plays players who are in form and fit what he expects from his team on match day. Martial hasn't been used as he's been out of form or not put in the desired effort or simply hasn't suited how Jose expects the team to play on the day. We're a very profitable club, so an extra 10 million euros isn't going to affect what the team does. I'm pretty sure playing our best team and getting into the Champions league far outweighs what Monaco will gain from his 25th goal.

He didn't deserve to start earlier in the season, he looked tired and uninterested with the Euros and all his personal life problems. However he's getting more and more game time recently and slowly playing into form. I think in a month or so he will be nailed down on the left with Miki on the right.

Those questioning Mou's decision to not play him at West Ham. Looks like it was just to rest him, and make sure he doesn't pick up a injury due to over exerting his body.
'He played very well against Middlesbrough but because he was not playing for a long time, he and myself felt that 48 hours later against West Ham it was better for him not to start,’ Mourinho explained.

‘Today, fresh, and again, very objective.

‘Playing against [Chris] Gunter, who is a very good right-back, and he performed very well again.’

I think his lack of game time could be down in part to Mourinho's annoyance with Martial's agent

Second season syndrome is common and its hard to produce what he did last season straight away

Martial seems to me to be a troubled guy at times and his domestic situation has been very disruptive....having an agent in his ear, leaking potential moves to the press.

Mourinho has openly warned him about his agent and hopefully Martial understands you can't look for a move when things dont go well

He's back in the fold now and hopefully he just does his best to give 100% to his football

Lovely performance yesterday

Can we remove loan speculation from the title because it was never going to happen and never will happen..

This guy running at people seems to gain so much more pace than when he is running without the ball, it's incredible. Hope we rest him against Hull then unleash him against Liverpool - it's the biggest game of our season to date.
