Totally agree he has things in his game that can’t really be measured. My thinking is he isn’t the kind of guy that would take us on leaps and bounds to where people think he would. He’d be a very solid buy and if it was say a straight cash buy of say 35mil i’d Be all for it even tho we have a guy who excelled in that position at other clubs (Sanchez) when I said he is like Lingard I meant in that he buzzes about quite a lot, he’ll get himself in to positions. One problem I see with our team is people not making those passes even tho people have made the run and offered the pass. So if he comes across the same thing if he comes here then he has become neutered.

Weirdly and I’m quite surprised at this Martial this season has made more tackles and blocks than William.

I think one of the good things William gives is that he just runs around a lot like Lingard and hopefully that would create space and opportunities for others however because of this he also occasionally like Lingard crowds space and closes off space for others. His crossing for me isn’t great but you’re right he will deliver quickly which I suppose by itself might transform our team as as far as I can see the only one willing to try such a thing in our team is Herrera.
 

Don't think this has been posted. Delaney says we're happy with a Willian + money deal for him. Board initially wanted to keep him, but Ed's willing to back any decision Mourinho makes in regards to personnel.

Not sure how reliable Delaney is, but there have been some other reports about us being interested in a swap, so there's probably something in it.

Castles called him out on it once but thats it.
 
I've made my peace with him leaving. The figures bandied about in the transfer rumours certainly are pathetic. The level of clubs interested in him are a level below, financially. The only way to let him go is in part-exchange for a top class player. Breaking even with Martial given his potential would be a ludicrous transfer.

If he leaves then take the money and sign Jadon sancho from Dortmund. Terrific young player and a good age to be sanchez backup. I suspect Jose would prefer Justin kluivert though.
 
Fantastic talent and loads of potential but I've never been able to see him as a long term player here. He's never shown that he enjoys playing for the club and this is not just under Jose but from when he first signed. Unfortunate that he might not realize his potential here but someone who isn't willing to fight and put the club above his own playing time won't work. He hasn't reached that level to demand that elite treatment.

Rashford and Martial are almost the same age and the same talent and same potential but the attitudes are completely different. Martial has an air of entitlement - you see it in his demeanor. It can be a good thing but he hasn't earned it. No player is bigger than the club.
 
Big mistake by Jose letting him go and I am pretty annoyed he can't spend some time and patience developing Martial. Jose better win the league or CL to make up for this, especially if we let Martial go to a rival like Chelsea and get someone like Willian in return. But of course, that's not likely to happen as its' Delaney reporting it.

Don’t think Delaney is credible but I think it’s becoming more apparent that Martial is leaving in the summer, I’d rather Martial go to Juventus in a swap plus cash for Alex Sandro as we could probably get £20-£25 million on top of fixing our biggest positive problem at the same time which leaves lots of money for other positions.

Think I’d prefer Sessegnon as back up to Sanchez over Sancho although I’d say they’re neck and neck in terms of talent and potential, just don’t see Sancho leaving Dortmund after one season when he’s playing regularly whereas if Fulham don’t go up it’s a given that Sessegnon will leave.

Also I think long term Sessegnon could be moved to the right hand side like a Bale/Mahrez/Costa type inside forward which has long been a problem position for us and I quite like Angel Gomes coming from the left side, think Sancho would stall Gomes although aren’t they really close friends ?
 
If the coach doesn't fancy him, time to use him to get an able replacement given finance details are suitable for club. He just doesn't give that top tier player impression.
 
It's apparent Jose doesn't trust Martial enough to start him every game - the Sanchez signing highlighted that.

Martial is a player who needs game time and wont find form from the odd start here and there and sub appearances and it doesn't look like he will get that here, despite his talent and potential.

Whether Jose can develop young players and coach attacking football is an on-going debate, but the way we set up is very defensive and all of our attacking players are somewhat shackled - more I look at it the more I see Martial leaving.

His body language is also telling, he hasn't looked happy here for some time, he's also just missed out on the French world cup squad, which he should be in really but his lack of game time/form has let him down. Sometimes a certain player just doesn't work out for a manager, and I can understand why Martial wouldn't be set on staying as he has lost his starting spot to Sanchez.

If he is to go - we'd be extremely foolish to let him to a premier league club because he will thrive under the right manager who plays attacking football

You know... the ones Jose can't motivate or trust and then a season or two later they turn into one of the top.
 
It couldn't be any more evident that Martial will excel in a more attacking team (a Liverpool or City for example). To let him go would be such a mistake. He's potential is unbelievable.

Martial hasn't displayed an eight of the footballing intelligence or hunger to actually work hard as either of those two.

Martial is one of the best finishers at club, and he can go at a player with pace, but lets be honest, beyond that he's shown very little. He's been here nearly 4 years, thats a bloody long time to show barely any progress from your debut season.

And Salah/KdB didn’t show much during their first time in England. Mourinho wants a very specific type of player and if they aren’t exactly what he needs they don’t tend to work out. Martial will be a world beater under a more attacking manager.
 
Deschamps has named Martial on his stand by list - he is not in the 23 for the World Cup. Wonder what impact this development will have as far as his willingness to stay at United and fight for a place goes...

Complete nonsense, watch his first goal against Liverpool, or his winner in the semi final of the FA cup. The lad doesn't like to smile like an idiot every 5 seconds, it doesn't mean he didn't enjoy playing for this club, or that he feels entitled. You have never heard him make one single complaint. You don't have to make up stories in your head to make his possible departure easier to swallow.
 
Super talented but he is at the wrong club. He needs to go find a club and coach who gives him the freedom and assurance to play to his best abilities.

What does that have to do with feeling ‘entitled’?

He doesn’t like to play under this manager, doesn’t feel like staying will do his development any good, and the treatment he received has already lead to him losing out on the WC squad. It doesn’t mean he thinks he should be in the team by default.

He feels he has a right to start more often than he does, the manager clearly disagrees.
 
I rate Martial, and as recently as say a month ago I would have counted myself in the group of people who would be gutted to see him go. But I just am past the point of caring, and its probably a bad thing my opinion has been altered by the absolute fanboys on here who can't seem to take criticism of him at all and think he's completely faultless for his Utd career seemingly going down the toilet. I don't think we'll be that worse off without him, and as much as I think he'll do better away from the current setup we have at the club, I don't believe he'll ever be so amazingly good that we won't be able sign someone who matches his talent who fits our needs better.

I won't be gutted if he leaves and we can replace him but first there is no need to make up a narrative that puts the player in a bad light, particularly when you could easily twist it the other way with no one able to dispute it because no one knows what he feels, no one knows the type of relationship that he has with Mourinho which is crucial in understanding how the player will react, the only thing we have is a rumour that Mourinho doesn't talk to Martial but that's only a rumour.
And secondly a player being replaceable doesn't mean that you want or should replace him, transfers are erratic, you could easily purchase an actual dud which Martial isn't.

Personally my position is simple, I was wary about the transfer in the first place, Martial was a player that needed development and it would have been better for him to stay at Monaco. Now, I don't like the way he is developing and I don't think that he is going to be an important player for Mourinho in the future, it's best for him to leave and join a manager that will appreciate what he can bring and one that wants to develop that type of player. Unfortunately, this summer he is too expensive for clubs like Dortmund or Napoli.
 
From what I understand he has a contract until the summer of 2019 with the option for us to extend it for another year. If that's true, I honestly don't see him leave that easily.

And surely clubs that would want him are going to have to fork out a hell of a lot of money in this current inflated transfer market? I don't see why he should cost much less than what we paid for Lukaku, unless I'm missing something. Maybe if his agent pushes really hard and Martial kicks up a scene and refuses to train or something, but even then the price for other clubs would be high. And there's the problem of replacing him, which would cost us a lot of money and it's very much the question which replacements are available, so I can't see why Mourinho or the club would be so keen on that. We need a lot of talent and quality available to compete with City's squad, it's simply much easier to just keep Martial.

I also don't like this narrative that his relationship with Mourinho is so incredibly bad, I know Mourinho is pretty much the Devil incarnated and stuff, and he's a bitter man who can't appreciate any talent and he is pushing our beloved players out. But in reality Martial featured in at least 44 matches for us this season, and why did Mourinho say just last week in front of running cameras that Martial would play against Watford (before the injury) if there's so much problems between them? Would be a lot easier to not make such comments and freeze him out. But he's not really treated like Daley Blind, or Memphis/Schneiderlin/Schweinsteiger before they left.

I think him not signing that new contract we offered is more the influence of his agent, who's been making noise for two seasons now. Feckers are desperate to show the world they can play God and want to do everything possible for their beloved cash cow. Given the amount of games he's had in the three season with us, at one of the biggest clubs in the world playing on the highest level, I think the notion that his development is hindered so much is borderline ridiculous. He's 22 and has played over 130 matches for us in three seasons, at that age that's excellent even if a good amount of matches were not the full 90 minutes.

So the choice is very much with Martial himself, if he really wants to go to another club and try his luck there and gives out all the signals, then it might be game over. But I can very much see a scenario where we keep him for next season an re-evaluate the situation and feelings in December.

No, he just had his agent go to the press talking up a loan move to Seville during his second season when he wasn't playing. And now this season again, he wants to leave.

He doesn't give a shit about us, not sure why some of you are so invested in him.
 
Cracking player when he's up for it, don't know if he has the mentality to make it at the highest level. If a good offer comes in, let him go.

I don't think after he is not included in the W.C squad he is going to stay here. I rate the guy very much and also I don't want him to leave here but unfortunately it's down to Jose who looks not intersted. Can see him leaving for a top team and come out great.
 
The only thing worse than Martial leaving would be to see him in a rival PL team jersey.

Never say never though. So if Martial to Chelsea deal is on the cards, we better only do it if they give us full price for Tony and ALSO Willian!

That is not my point. You are risking to have a player very motivated to play us at the very least twice season if he is sold for them.
We are a terrible team for young attackers to blossom and the less said about Jose the better. There is a chance, even little that he'd be better for them
