Martial agent looking for a new club for him

Really think Dortmund would do well to secure him as part of some deal with Sancho or Haaland. I think he’d do well over there.

I also doubt Ole wants rid. I would be very very disappointed if Martial wants leave. That's poor mentality.

Why? Ole has tried to sign a striker in every transfer window since he became manager - what does that tell you? He’s also tried to buy a certain type of striker - and it isn’t one of the profile of Martial.

Look, I understand people rate his talent - but this is Utd and it waits for nobody. He isn’t producing and last season was a significant step backwards. I don’t see anything in his game that tells me he can be a striker you hang your hat on to get you goals consistently. I see someone who will produce a great flick or turn but ultimately might just lack final product a lot of the time.

He scored more league goals (not counting penalties) in 2019/2020 than anyone we've had post-Fergie. See what the likes of Watkins and DLC would cost or someone like Buendia, players who never showed anything close to what we've seen from Martial.

I bet a lot of people here wouldn't have minded getting 40m or less for Lukaku after his 2nd season with United.

Exactly, he's had 1 good season out of 7 (I think) since joining the club. He's not a £40 million player by any stretch of the imagination, but I guess it's possible we could get something resembling that figure in a part-ex deal?

Not to mention how rare it is for United to make a profit on a player, particularly one that has flattered to deceive for the majority of his time at the club.

Martial would easily fetch £60m in today's market.

Not really sure why people would think otherwise!!

He signed two backup strikers. It's like saying Ole wants to get rid of Rashford because he signed a winger in every transfer window.

Sorry, but good riddance. His best game was his first. Those of us who watch him live and at close hand every week have surely had enough. I remember one particular game against Everton around 18 months ago, his effort wasn’t languid, if was fecking deplorable. I wanted to run onto the pitch and boot him off it.

From who? Which clubs that routinely spend that kind of money would sign him?
I don’t know if these clubs have the money in this covid world but a club like Everton or Villa could spend that much on him. The stickler will be the monster wages he’s on.

We should keep him for another season and sell him next season.

Cavani / Mason, Rashford / Martial, Sancho / Amad. He can leave next season and we can sign a striker and hopefully have either of Elanga or Pellistri be the backup to Rashford.

No one's paying that. Not on the back of that last season. We should look to get around 40 though, or use him in a deal.
Plenty of clubs would pay that if he was available.

He had two very good seasons out of 6, and usually performed well for Mourinho whenever he had a consistent run. I'm not arguing for him to stay regardless but I don't see anyone who would come in for him and be a guaranteed success this transfer window.

Coming off the back of a poor season and on massive wages

And presumably we want to sell

We have very little leverage to get a big fee

Who would want him? He’d be a good punt for someone who can afford it if it didn’t go well but you’d be kinda mad to put your faith in him as your main striker for a season

If we do give him one more year, and he puts in a similar season to this season we will never move him on. He's on £250k a week and doesn't deserve it, no other team will take that gamble.

At least Anelka would score on a regular basis. People are willing to overlook any potential attitude problem if you keep finding the back of the net

Its castles so it’s most likely BS. If Ole wouldn’t rotate Rashford with what he was producing by the end of the season then I doubt form was ever actually the issue here. Martial will eventually want to leave if he’s not a starter though. I think that’s a fair statement. We can still get a good fee for him or use him (and Pogba) in swap deals for more suitable players that want to fight for the team then I’d be all over it to be honest. Bad scouting or weak recruitment practices brought us here. Lukaku, Di Maria, Pogba, Miki, martial, Bailly, Depay, Zaha, Shaw up to about 2 years ago and so on. Even Jose and LVG. Two unhinged managers on the way down Serious questions about mentality all over the place but we pretty much gave them the keys to the club.

Everton maybe, but they already have Calvert-Lewin up front and Richarlison out left. They don’t have a need for Martial that would see them make him their record transfer and highest earner.

We have had no indication that Martial is to be sold.
He is still an asset to the club, yet to reach his peak years, still in contract.
If a club wanted him, they'd have to pay.

Could see Juventus wanting him of Ronaldo goes.

Give a realistic possibility. How many clubs have paid £60m for a player and which of them would have any need or want for Martial? Arsenal maybe?

They are going to want a better player than martial ffs.

I agree with everything you've said here. I'm all out of tolerance for part timers who don't give a shit anymore because they're on cushy wages and have 'potential'. It just feels like Martial has been a problem more than he's not been.

Why are so many convinced Dan James is off? Ole seems to like him

No clue either.
As long as he isn't a starter, and is happy with that, he's a useful player to keep as backup to put on at the end of games vs tired fullbacks.

What sort of magical thing is meant to happen when he reaches what is traditionally known as his peak years? It to suddenly click for him, and it would be very sudden.

I get why he's so beloved on this site and in our fanbase, and why there's so much loyalty and hope for him, due to how good he can be on his day, but I do think some are blind to the reality of what Martial has achieved here.

He’s not good enough and he never will be. There’s good ability there but lacks the mental strength to be a top striker. He isn’t obsessed with scoring goals. You can see it in his movement - perennially in the wrong positions.

Bingo!

I'm glad we're finally showing a ruthlessness when it comes to underperforming players. Martial has been here for 6 years now and it's clear as day he isn't going to be the player we all hoped he would be, especially after this 1st season. Now is the time to sell

Examples of young players being transferred for £60m?? Just Google them, plenty of them.

But all this presumes he is available, which o doubt very much he is.

Yes, the market has been insane but who, this summer, is going to pay £60m for Martial? No one has got any cash and they definitely haven't got £60m for an inconsistent striker

Players on the up yeah

Not players who’ve stalled at a big club

Not a single credible source in this thread.

@Damien I thought you weren't supposed to start transfer threads without posting a credible source in the OP? Seen a fair bit of that creeping in. The Grealish to City thread didn't have a source until page 10 or 11. Plenty of time for any journalist to make up a story based on the previous 10 pages of the thread.

Can you start clamping down on this spamming of the Transfer Forum?

Obviously you don't understand the human body.

I don't love Martial, but a player like Martial is easily worth £60m in today's market. Anyone who believes he's worth less is under valuing.

Yes there is. Generally they happen to sign for a particular group of clubs. Which of them are waiting to spend £60m on Martial? You’re the one saying it would happen easily.

Only 5 clubs in England have spent that much or more on individual players. Let’s ignore United for obvious reasons. That leaves City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal. Who out of those, in current circumstances, is going to spend £60m on Martial?

One club in France could afford him. Would they want him? Maybe. I don’t see them paying that for him though.

The Spanish 3 and Italian clubs have no money. That leaves Bayern who have no need for him.

Who's got that money this summer? Only PSG, Chelsea or City and none of them want him
Again, if you'd have read what I put you'd understand.

All of this presumes he's available, which by all other accounts he isn't.

But in answer to your question, plenty of clubs have money this window, just not many of them need a striker.
