I'm expecting a real breakout year for Greenwood as our main striker.

What happens in January though.
So we're going to loan our back up striker to a cash strapped club and rely on injury prone Cavani for the season? How do they get paid to write this stuff? Probably because people clearly lap it up.

Greenwood is a striker really by trade. He'd be our back up number 9 as well as an option for the right surely?
We are pretty much stacked even with Rashford out up front. I would sell him if we get a decent money.

I don't think he's proven he's a good option there yet for the first team. Would also then leave us short on the right or left.
It would be madness to weaken our striker options this close to the season and it's clear good strikers are scarce and expensive.

That tweet was hardly credible, but loaning with an obligation to buy is just selling. And probably easier in this climate. I do agree though that this is not the time to sell him when his stock is so low.

Makes no sense to leave ourselves short this year, unless Ole is getting someone else in for 1 season.

Sure... he can out-pace them or out-dribble them. But he can't win the mental game against them with clever movement. His first instinct is always towards the ball rather than away from his marker. Assuming such a thing as a 'natural position' exists, Martial's is not as a centreforward whose main opponent is the other team's centreback.
If Spurs are buying him to replace Kane, they'll need to radically change their style of play. Same applies if Inter want him to replace Lukaku. The differences are greater than the similarities.
So I don't see either as viable options, tbh. I think a more realistic destination would be somebody looking for a wide forward. Which happens to be Manchester United for at least the next couple of months. I think Martial is probably going to stay until January.

Lukaku is a miles better striker. Martial is a much better all round player but he’s not got the aggressive/win at all costs streak to be a top class striker
Stop doing loan deals. These broke Italian clubs always want only loan deals. feck all of them. If we decide to kick someone out the club then fecking sell them and call it a day.

I'm not really a big fan of him, but we'd be daft to ship him out whilst Rashford is out until November. If Rashford is out, then our only CF is Cavani. I assume that would mean we'll be seeing a hell of a lot of Dan James on the left too.
Why would we care about that? That money has been recorded on our accounts already.
I think the playing Martial as centre forward experiment is over. If he plays for us now I would mostly expect him to play wide.
With an obligation to buy is it not effectively selling the player though, just with deferred payments really.

I agree, I'm not keen on him down the middle either, and think his best days for us have come from the left, but he might be needed as a centre forward if/when Cavani is out. I would suspect Cavani isn't going to play every game when the CL group games start.
Unless Ole is going to give Greenwood a chance as a centre forward, which I'd be keen to see.

By counting the attacking players we have? Left - Sancho, James, Pogba and even Lingard. Right Sancho, Greenwood, James and even Mata. Strike Cavani, Greenwood who needs games to develop. And, we should be able to cope with that group of players until the end of year when Rashford will be back. Next season? Well, we will have a new striker.
Those are senior players. We still have a few youth players who can play in some cup games to let senior players rest.
Erm no. He was good and still is if he is in the mood but never our best player.

Would have to be good money. Inter recieved 97 million for Lukaku i would want at least 60 million for martial.
So two strikers? One old and injury prone and another not ready who is currently a better option on the right. Seems sensible to sell then.
Would be a brilliant summer if Utd can get Inter to take Martial on loan with an obligation to buy at £50mil. We get our money back on him.

If Martial moves, United will probably move in quick for a 2nd rated striker like Callum Wilson. Then end of season get Haaland.
We can cope with Cavani and Greenwood until Rashford is back. Then we have Rashford as a third choice ST as well as him playing on the left primarily obviously.
50m for Martial (if it's true) would be too good to turn down. He's had 2 good seasons in 6 years.

If Martial's performance remains stagnant after 4-5 games, id rather give Greenwood time to develop honestly. Greenwood is young but his talent for scoring goals is unmistakable, his technique is ridiculous, he can easily be one of the best finisher the club has ever had. His runs and pace arent bad either. Whether Martial leaves or not I'd rather put Greenwood as 2nd choice. Its better to develop an exciting talent than give inconsistent player time when in the end that player is never gonna make the CF position his own. Six years should be enough surely?

No chance we sell him now, only way that happens is if a straight up cash offer come in that suits our valuation, even that would be dumb of us to let him go without a proper replacement, to make it worst Rashford is out until November, For now he's worth more to us than flogging him for 50m.
