Martín Zubimendi | £51m release clause

The messages of the unnamed footballer admitting to what he done aren’t hard to find.

Arsenal are an absolutely disgusting club for continuing to play him.
Unless I am wrong those cases were dismissed.

The current cases have nothing to do with that at all. Again, correct me if I am wrong.

You're basically using the same logic people defended Greenwood with.

Ah multiples cases. Lovely chap.
Not sure why the salt. I simply asked what the UK cases are off. If they have screenshots yes then I totally agree with you. However after Mendy I am a bit shy of smashing every player under the same stain for the mere fact they were accused. Or were you two also standing with pitchforks when he was suspended and accused?

Incidentally 'chap' the law also agrees with me. Nor was I aware that the screenshots were off the unnamed player. If they were then yes, feck him and feck us for keeping him in.

So how has he played this season? I understand we are rumoured to be interested in him again.

I managed to read the text message exchange between the victim and him, prior to them being deleted.

He has had a great season and has been back to his best for the most part - but the sooner we are rid of him the better.

Outshined by Man United's weak midfield. DO NOT want.

You're going to miss his physicality a lot next season if you replace him with this guy.

Agree. I'm hopeful that MLS is ready to step in and take over from Partey - he at least provides a physical presence both on/off the ball.

But maybe we would still use him to "invert" and help cover Zubamendi's physical limitations. Mind you, we have played well with Jorginho in the midfield and he is tiny too.

Latest from Spain is that Madrid have held talks with his agent. Would make sense for Madrid, they need a conductor like him in midfield

He literally agreed to move to Arsenal in the smer. I have failed tilo understand why the y keep linking him to everyone else.
Liverpool met the release clause in the summer and Arsenal I think met it in January.

I dont think either had an agreement with the player though.

He was reluctant to leave Spain. It's just under an hour to fly from San Sebastian to Madrid. He could join madrid and not uproot his family. You can see the appeal.

Arsenal were in advanced talks in January. Normally reliable sources like Romano reported a summer deal was agreed. Honestly I'll be uber surprised if he lands else where.

You don't even need to fly. Can be driven in 3 and a half hours. Some Real Sociedad players have done it, but it is not a popular thing to do given the history of the Basque Country and Real Madrid being Franco's club. You kind of have to accept when you come back to San Sebastián you will no longer be liked or respected by the locals, but sometimes money talks (see Xabi Alonso and Illarramendi).

Wasn't impressed at all when we played them. Think he'd struggle in the prem, unless it was a team that completely dominated possession, like City. They've even started to struggle though, as other teams have gotten bigger and faster

Deal agreed with clubs no? We heard the same in the summer but I don't think there was anything agreed on personal terms.

In any case I think he's quite overrated. Zirkzee bullied him when Sociedad played us :p

Really interesting move. IMO he's not really a Klopp midfielder. However, he's very much a Xabi Alonso type. Maybe says something about who's coming in after Carlo..?

Slight difference, both clubs indicated they were willing to meet the release clause if they got the agreement with the player. Actually activating it is quite far down the line of a transfer.

It seemed Zubi verbally agreed to go to Liverpool but the Sociedad hierarchy managed to play on Zubimendi's emotions to convince him to stay. They didn't want to lose both Merino and Zubimendi going into the new season.

This brought Arsenal back into play who had admired him for ages, and the reports came out in January they believe they have convinced the player to join them. But until it's signed and sealed I would always be a bit wary.

Ah yes that makes sense. After the Liverpool debacle I can imagine it's never fully agreed

This increases my fears about Madrid coming in for Bruno.
Nope. Real Madrid's transfer policy changed. They won't be signing stars older than 26 if they cost big fees like what a Bruno can command. Its one of the reasons Im highly skeptical of those Zubimendi links. If there is any expensive midfielder they target its going to be Wirtz or Enzo at Chelsea.

I will probably get slated for this. But would prefer Wharton. He should be are top midfield target this summer

In an ideal world, Arteta signs Zubimendi to replace Jorginho, and convinces Partey to extend one or two more years in summer. A midfield of Odegaard, Rice, Partey, Merino, and Zubimendi would be good competition and rotation. There still won't be anyone to compete with Odegaard though.

Nwaneri, Vieira and Havertz could all play there. And if Odegaard’s iffy form continues, they are each capable of doing a better job.

Odegaard is fantastic when he’s on it, but he hasn’t had the best season.
