Marquinhos

We should spend however much it takes to bring him here. I think he can end up being better than Varane & Laporte, depending on his development. He's in a similar situation as Smalling was - he's obviously too good to still be playing as a RB, but needs a change of circumstances if he is to realize his potential.

Not really, Thiago Silva prefers to play with David Luiz, I suspect that it's because of his physicality.

Indeed. He's just the defender I think of when looking for a strong fella to go through a pesky attacker...

Real Madrid & Arsenal monitoring Marquinhos’s situation

Much has been made of the future of Brazilian central defender Marquinhos in recent days, especially following his omission from the PSG starting XI last week when the Ligue 1 champions drew disappointingly 2-2 with Manchester City in the Champions League.

L’Équipe have been reporting that the player is almost certainly going to attempt to leave PSG in the summer, having so far failed to break into the starting central defensive pairing, with David Luiz currently, rather controversially, standing in his way.

According to the French newspaper, multiple top European sides are monitoring the young Brazilian’s current situation. Manchester United and Barcelona, who have had bids turned down for the player in previous transfer windows, continue to maintain their interest.

Perhaps more surprising however is the addition of Real Madrid and Arsenal to Marquinhos’s list of possible summer suitors, as revealed by the French daily this morning.

Marquinhos is due to partner Thiago Silva tomorrow at the heart of the PSG defence in their crucial return leg against Manchester City.

I'd imagine because of his age, pretty much every top club will be interested.

The CL elimination must have hit them hard.
Knowing Ed we will end up in a bidding war with them.

I'd take him here. Next season I'd like to see Blind back in midfield and an actual CB partnering Smalling. There's also the fact Rojo and Jones are injury prone, to the point I'd give up on Jones. We might need two or three CB's if Carrick goes and we give up on Jones.

Yeah, I'd take him as well. He's class and will probably look to leave this summer as he hasn't played at CB much. I don't think he's happy with being played on the right as he has the potential to become one of the best center backs around. We could sign Marquinhos or another top CB and even if we get rid of Jones and Rojo, we could still be okay with Smalling, Marquinhos, Blind and TFM/Williams/Tuanzebe as options.

As for Carrick - we should let him leave on a free and sign a new midfielder (seems like it'll be Renato Sanches) and then concentrate on improving our attacking options. A new right winger + a creative #10 are a must.

According to that article they want some sort of swap deal and they highlight Memphis as a potential chip. They can take Rojo and Jones too if they want.

PSG seem determined to sign our flops. Looking forward to the meltdown after Memphis scores a brace against Troyes.

Joking aside, Memphis might be shit in the Premier League, but I think he'd be great in the French League and they'd be delighted to sign him because of his commercial value as well. Read somewhere that his shirt is being sold like hot cakes.

Hopefully he stays here, gets a nice physical and mental rest in the summer and returns for pre-season training a different player, for a different manager. He should get a second season to prove himself, but things aren't looking good right now. I can see Van Gaal selling him if he stays beyond the summer.

If we sign this lad, keep Dave, get Jose, get Shaw back fit, and TFM continues his progression, we'll concede about 3 goals next season.

I'd really like this lad, but I think Jose will go for Stones instead. He tried to last season and would probably cost less. I think Marquinhos is the better defender though.

Agreed, we'll go for Stones.
Laporte is off to city and Marquinhos to Barca, its either Stones or Manolas for us.

Marquinhos to Barcelona? Impossible.

Laurent Blanc has recently changed his mind: Marquinhos is now the 1st choice to play with Thiago Silva since April

Next year, David Luiz will be the replacement of Thiago Motta or Marquinhos.

In order to make Marquinhos happy, the club said 'Ok, you can play both the Copa America & the Olympic Games' while Barcelona told Neymar 'You have to choose between the Copa America & the Olympic Games'

Manchester City, Manchester United & Chelsea in talks for Marquinhos

According to UOL Esporte, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea are all in active talks over the possible transfer of Marquinhos from PSG this summer.

However, Marquinhos’s preferred destination is Barcelona, where he would be able to join up with compatriot Neymar.

Handily, Barcelona are also very interested in the player’s services.

PSG have absolutely no intention of letting the young central defender go, but if they do not reassure him that he will be a guaranteed starter next season, then he will attempt to force his way out.

PSG have already rejected a €40m offer from an unnamed club during this transfer window for the player.

The Brazilian report claims that an offer of €50m is required, but we are convinced that Al Khelaifi would want at least €60m plus bonuses in order to let go of the Brazilian, if he has any desire to do so.

Going by the reports, he's over priced, doesn't want to come and PSG don't want to sell.

Neither are worth it, but I'd much rather pay that for Marquinhos than John Stones.

You also have to keep in mind that PSG bought Marquinhos for £27m three years ago so as long as he improves, that value will only continue to appreciate. I don't have too many problems with the fee if it's within reason and allows us to secure him.

Now is the time to act if we are to have any chance of turning his head. We can offer him regular first team football unlike PSG and I don't think Barcelona would be able to compete with us financially either.

He's in the same situation as Lucas, he's wasted the last 2 years playing at RB or sitting on the bench, he should have been one of the best in the world by now, but he is just another overpaid PSG squad player.

He's become first choice for Paris towards the end of the season and should keep his starting spot next season.

Mourinho is really a big fan of him.

He already tried to sign him 2 times in the last 3 years.

Yes. Since the fiasco in the ECL in April, Marquinhos is now the 1st choice to play alongside Thiago Silva.
