Marquinhos

Can he play LCB?
Yes, he started playing LCB when he first joined PSG although now he plays exclusively as RCB.

Marca linked him today with Real Madrid for a summer move, but I don't see us being very interested in letting him go.

I wouldn't want any part of either negotiating with PSG or pursuing a player always looking for his next payday

PSG are real bitches to deal with, i dont see us signing any of their players if they dont want to sell them, and here that is the case. There is also very little interest in their players from top clubs, and most of the players are happy to sit on a pile of cash and win mickey mouse titles every year.

Verratti would be the exception for me. Think he's going to be the best midfielder in the world for a decade or so.

Laurent Blanc stated last week that they will have to take a decision about the CB position at the end of the season, so the door may have slightly opened.

If we sell it would only be to respect his will to be in a first 11, as a sporting/business decision it would make no sense.

Verratti is great but he's only just extended with a club that, for me, can be pointless to negotiate with if they aren't interested in selling

In fairness they are in a much better position than us to challenge for the mickey mouse champions league (plus I think Paris would be more attractive to many than Manchester)

They are in a better position, but i wrote that in general to the other top clubs, not particularly us. Paris would be more attractive than Manchester, but not more than Barcelona or Madrid.

[Di Marzio] - Marquinhos future with PSG in doubt and Mourinho is a big fan of him

http://gianlucadimarzio.com/en/eng/not-just-ibrahimovic-marquinhos-future-with-psg-in-doubt/

Brazilian defender Marquinhos has fed fuel to the fire regarding his future in an interview with Le Parisien-Aujourd'hu. The former Roma-man stated: "Everyone knows that there will be a time to reflect at the end of the season, we will speak about the club's objectives as well as mine and together we will decide what to do. I'm playing and I'm happy, I've been involved in important matches but I have personal objectives. To the fans I can say that my future is still with this team."

The player whose current deal with PSG expires in June 2019, is being tracked by Barcelona according to the Catalán press but could face stiff competition from Manchester United if José Mourinho were to take over as the Portuguese tactician is a big fan of the Brazilian stopper. Despite having been utilized by Laurent Blanc this season, Marquinhos has struggled to find room in the middle of the Parisian defense, as Thiago Silva and David Luiz have been the first choice for the newly crowned Ligue 1 Champions.

Marquinhos dream is to play in the Premier League, maybe he will do so with current team mate Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Sure, he is considered as the Future of the club: 21 years old.

He plays with Dunga so I don't see a move. He will be blocked.

Thiago Silva is our captain and wants to retire in Paris and David Luiz is still young for a CB. Do you think he will accept a squad role for the next 3 years or that he will make his way into the first 11 soon?

I can see him challenging David Luiz for a starting spot but Blanc seems to prefer the most experienced one.

It will depend on the performances of the defenders in the European Champions league.

He has already played 31 games (including some as a sub) and will play the next major matches as a RB. I could imagine the following scenario for the next year: Van Der Wiel (end of contract next summer) not replaced so that Marquinhos will have the opportunity to play a lot of matches as a CB or RB.

What is certain is that he wants to move and that Khelaifi would be inclined to block him: in the past, he tried to block Ancelotti moving to Real saying "A contract is a contract"

A top class defender is Mourinho's type.

Can't see it. If he's available everyone will be after him, and we're a bit shit. Maybe with UCL and Mourinho confirmed, maybe.

Why would he feel humiliated?

Aurier went on some video chat website and basically tore into Blanc and some of his PSG teammates (you can probably google exactly what he said). Marquinhos is probably feeling humiliated because he hasn't said anything, and he's still not getting picked.

Why would he feel humiliated?
No reason, he could be disappointed but humiliated makes no sense.

They have their quota of anti-PSG papers to fulfil and it sets the narrative for a long saga and many articles to write until the end of the summer.

I can see Marquinhos being genuinely interested in a move to get a higher status elsewhere though.

That's a bit rich, the PSG loving is nauseating and you are still complaining.:nono:

Well, the media do a service to the other clubs talking about our good results rather than how underwhelming and uninspiring the other usual clubs have been this year. Look at Marseille: huge hype with Bielsa last year and the media keep verly quiet this year while they are close to the relegation zone.

Any slight imperfection from one of our players will get him a lot of stick, and if we get eliminated against Man City next week expect the biggest shitstorm of the season.
Journos themselves state that anti-PSG is what sells the most.

As a Man Utd fan, I am can relate to what your saying

All centre backs can play either side, this LCB has to be left footed bollocks is made up by LVG
Sometimes I wonder how Ferguson did with one of the best CB partnerships we ever had, in Rio/Vidic, when both are right footed. Such a genius.

It's not about which foot you use but on which side you are accustomed to play. For example Vidic would often play on the right when partnered with Evans, Thiago Silva has a preference for the right, Laurent Blanc a preference for the left.

Its a lot harder to find left sided CB's then right sided.

It is, I can't remember which french international explained why, I think it was Sagnol. It's harder for a right footed player to tackle while running to his left or protect his weak side against a right footed attacker.

I've heard Wenger saying he chooses the side where the CBs play according to their dominant eye, but it soesn't seem to matter much in my opinion, most defenders seem comfortable on both sides.

Not all CB's are comfortable on the side of their weaker foot. Hodgson said last week he is finding it a problem when discussing Terry who is comfortable on the left side.

Yes. Terry is the only left sided CB England and Chelsea have. Both are struggling to replace him.
