He'll be a valuable part of Mourinho's squad. Even when Pogba comes in, he'll be still there and abouts. And rightfully so. He's the perfect Mourinho player pretty much.

I must admit, I've not been his biggest fan at United, probably because I associate him with everything that was wrong with United under Moyes, but he impressed me today.

I am wondering whether he will be our main defensive midfielder this season (along with Carrick depending on the opposition)?

So, a Fellaini / Pogba midfield it is then!! I could get behind that - dominate long balls and corners defensively, and be impossible to defend against at corners with 5 big guys in the 11. He also happens to be a much better footballer than his hair suggests, and he's been one of the few who have given everything in his time at the club.

If anyone deserves a real shot under a proper tacticly smart coach like Mourinho, it's him.

He needs to keep his new hair colour. It suits him on the eye. The black mop looked like a garbage bag on his head. Now he looks like he has cauliflower there.

You know what, aside from his awful mistake for the Vardy goal last week he's started the season really well. Was good despite that last week and was excellent today.

Maybe Jose knows how to get the best out of him?

He misplaced one pass all game, unbelievable. Have to hand it to him, he was excellent. I really enjoy seeing him do well.

As I said before... 4 managers have favoured him. So he must be doing something right.

Maybe some fans just don't know as much about football as they think they do.

Will be interesting to see if Fellaini is used especially for away games or if he will be a regular fixture in all games. Must say, he surprised me today.

Besides the sloppy back pass for the Vardy goal, he's been very good in the two games.

It's very predictable but quite sad and ridiculous to see his rating over the two games at a shocking 5/10. Especially if you compare with Luke Shaw's 6.8/10 rating. IMO Fellaini's easily been better over the course of these two games. And Luke Shaw's bad touch today could just as well have cost us a goal if it'd fell to a sharper player.

People should really give up the agendas for and against certain players. And yes, I think Shaw is easily the better player in general, but you gotta give credit where credit is due, and surely these ratings don't reflect the players' performances but rather the preference of the player in general.

Good game today.

Very disciplined, no stupid fouls and good positional awareness. Seems a lot more assured

Impressed...If there is one manager to trust, in regards Fellaini, it's Mourinho.

Let's hope he continues it

Think we are going to see lots of players perform well this season because Jose is a manager that tells them exactly what he wants them to do. Seems like Fellaini has been given clear directions on what his role is and how hard he has to work. Seems to be working so far.

Mourinho gave our Matic a career so I wouldn't be surprised if he worked wonders with Fellaini.

He was one of very few players who played well under Van Gaal too. Not in every game he featured but in a bigger proportion of games than most.

Ironically, his one consistently poor season was under Moyes. And his reputation has been permanently tarnished as a result.

Well done Fellaini.. All he's done since he came here has been to try his bollocks off. Whether he makes it here or not I don't know but he's no coward and that has to be respected. Good performance yesterday.

Top post, I fully agree. His average rating just illustrates the fact that people blindly hate him and no matter what he does that won't change.

Did he also elbow his marker on the turn (left arm) or I am seeing thing? If so, so original.

I only watched the second half but I was certainly pleased by his performance during it.

As a big critic delighted for him.....

Good performance where he did everything quite well without needing to do anything special

He deserves to keep his place in the side.....weve seen performances like this from Fellaini before most memorably for me when he's dominated Yaya

Lets hope he keeps it up

I have to admit he's proving me wrong with performances like yesterday. The only thing that still bothers me abit is that he never moves the ball first time and still has a tendency to slow our game down abit. Would like him to start certain games and I think that is how Mourinho will use him.

I have pretty much same opinion. I think he is will be our version of Mikel (the sub role) and contribute in certain fixture/ circumstances that our starter is not as well suited.

Still skeptical bout some of his passes. It's not like he misplaced it, just his awareness about his surrounding may lead to something like Vardy goal. He is actually tidy short passer of the ball. He is very disciplined in keeping team shape as instructed. Problem again is his awareness in tracking phantom runners.

How long before our fans turn on him again? Its sickening the abuse he gets on here sometimes.

I'll admit that I have been extremely critical of him under Moyes and LVG, but he was almost perfect as a defensive midfielder against Bournemouth.

Another thing I like is that he usually weights his short passes pretty well, but I'm not sure a midfield of him and Pogba has the ability to create from deep that Carrick can provide.

Add me to the list of his critics that thought he played really well yesterday.

It was a very 'complete' midfield performance and his passing (99%!) and discipline (just the one foul conceded) were both especially pleasing.

At United not a lot, but at least he has only had one crap season rather than three.

But at least Schneiderlin is actually a box to box midfielder (unlike Felliani who if in the team should be playing more advanced) and has proven previously that he can be one of the best in the league at this role.

So basically, the one who gets the start is the one who has less crap seasons? And you are comparing a player that has played for Southampton and his form for Southampton with a player that is playing for Manchester United. No players should start on past glory (feck off Rooney) and that is the case for Schneiderlin, Fellaini is indeed currently a much better player than Schneiderlin and is deserving to start over him.

He is a natural defensive anchor. I'm personally not surprised that given an encapsulated defensive responsibility to get about and be proper hard in the challenge brought out a little fight and fire in him. A great performance and probably his best of his entire tenure here. Loves that ground, had a great game against the Cherries last season as well.

He looks fit, lean, mobile, hungry and ready to work. That is a brilliant little card in the deck for Jose in my opinion. He's probably odds on to continue as the anchor with Pogba/Herrera/Schneiderlin as the attacking central midfield options. Carrick to come in on the roll'em over games and on the rotation. To be fair, this little card could come up trumps this season.

He's been doing pretty well since his disastrous first season. Looks like he's found his footing in this level. Apart from occasional elbows, he's got a complete skill set to be a useful squad member.
