Who else could really be captain? Fellaini plays and acts like a traditional "captain".

He is good enough to be a squad player. Our longest serving first team player today so it's pretty normal to wear the armband for one game.

He's not good enough.

That's because he's a donkey.

What a fecking travesty. A man who is the shining example of our abject mediocrity is given the armband that has been worn by legends and true leaders. A man who would not start for any other team in the top 6. It's an embarrassment to the shirt and embarassment to the club that this is what we are reduced to. Marouane Fellaini, Manchester United captain. Jesus wept.

What a turn around as a player. Absolutely despised by many, many fans. I'm still not sure if he is the answer long term but he does a great job and his role is quite specific. He may not create many chances but that may not be his role.
Jose clearly likes him and he will probably have a new contract this week.

Ah! If only....

It just worries me is all.

There shouldn't be a United fan in the world that thinks Fellaini is good enough. The fact he's starting games is bad enough, but the evidence that Jose thinks he's an integral part of the team and one of the senior options having now been in the job for long enough to know better is a concern.

He would start for Arsenal and probably Spurs to be honest. Wanyama, Elneny and Coquelin all start for those teams.

You take an elasticated band far too seriously.

The same fans that criticise him for 'throwing Shaw/Martial/Mkhitaryan/insert player X under the bus' you mean? While he's been getting load of unwarranted stick, Jose stood by him, he stands by him now. You'd think that fans should applause that behaviour if they are fed up with him throwing players under the bus. But no, it's Fellaini.

Our fans, just like any other football fans, are fecking hypocrites if so.

Just another easy way to identify those who need to go on ignore. Thanks Jose.

Schweinsteiger gets a standing ovation for sentimentality but the same people won't see the positive story behind a under fire player getting a great recognition because (Idz dunt lik Felaney!!)

All I'm saying is that if we lose today fans will look for a scape goat and where better to look than Fellaini the captain and at the man who named him. I can just see him getting slaughtered if Fellaini doesn't play well today. And Mourinho for naming a 'shit' player as captain. It's so predictable.

He is good enough though. Look at his performances over the past few seasons. Its not all about goals and assists and fancy passes. He has scored many important goals for us and been part of many big wins as well.

Today, captain. Tomorrow, a legend. If he gets a statue it should just be a bronze bust of his chest controlling a 70 yard goal kick.

This donkey has done far more for us then our other midfield acquisitions of recent years, like Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger.

Because you think so?

The fact that 3 managers think otherwise shows that there is evidence that he is.

Who cares what Ninja thinks? Like they say, opinions are like arseholes for a reason. Everyone has one. But most are full of something.

It's as if mourinho is laughing at us. Winding us up. "Hahaha I know you all hate Fellaini and he was fecking wank last week so I'm making him captain"

oh grow up and stop being such a drama queen

Imagine with the armband he puts in a captains performance, commanding and barking out orders.

TBH, cant be worse than Smalling and Rooney.

Would have liked to have seen herrera with it though :)

Yup, I can absolutely imagine a 54 year old manager of one of the biggest clubs in the world thinking something along those lines about posters on fans' forum.

Isn't Zlatan the vice captain after Rooney?

Think it's Carrick/Smalling.

I think he's a good squad player. I wouldn't want him to be a regular starter so hopefully we sign someone in the summer who can slot in ahead of him.

He gets an absurd amount of stick though.

Aye. The glowing endorsement of two mangers sacked for being shit and a third who is doing his best to emulate their results.

If I'm proved wrong I'll hold my hands up and admit it, but there just isn't a world in which Fellaini is good enough to be part of a title winning side.

I dislike Fellaini as a player but even looking objectively I can't see how it's a good idea.

He's at best a decisive probably closer to disliked among fans, if he plays awful it's another stick to beat him with. Besides all of that even if your one of those who loves Fellaini is it wise of Mourinho to essentially antagonise the large amount of fans who don't like him especially when results haven't been great recently.

It's hard to disagree that even if you count a few decent performances Fellaini has been at best average during his time here (although I'd strongly argue most of his performances are poor). So on that basis what exactly has he done to deserve the captaincy, I'd much rather see it go to a player like Ander Herrera who imo gives 110% every time he steps onto the pitch, is a fantastic ambassador for united off the pitch and is well liked.

There's only two reasons I can see why you could give the armband to Fellaini. The first is that José wants to inspire him to a good performance, this seems risky to me and the potential drawbacks outlined above don't make it worth the risk, it could also have the opposite effect and the pressure of the armband could get to him etc etc.

The second is length of time at the club, I can see the logic behind that but he's only played 10 more games than Herrera and by picking Herrera as captain José would have nothing to lose.

We've spent hundreds of millions but this clown is starting and captaining our team. Shocking.

Is Herrera not the obvious choice. Im beggining to question if i know anything about football at all. Three managers in a row seem to have so much faith in him.

He does a job, fair enough he done well on occasion but making him captain is not something I thought id ever see.

What's the big deal? Doesn't really mean much in one random game.

Even though carrying the captain's armband doesn't mean much anymore, it's still a fecking joke of a decision.

It's not like cricket where the captain makes a lot of decisions. It is basically a nothing job these days.

There is nothing wrong with Fellainis attitude and application. Managers tend to like that.

And Herrera is not more suitable by those attributes? Before Pogba got injured Fellaini was a sub. Herreras a guaranteed starter. Which makes more sense.

Anyway I couldnt care less as long as we win today.

All the geniuses who are better football managers than van gaal and mourinho out in force today

Hard to fathom how people can't be humble about this and accept that they actually haven't a clue from watching fellaini for an average of 50 minutes a week on a tv screen that whether or not this is a good decision
