Interesting that Rio also thinks he's best off of the front man. That could be quite suggestive that he doesn't see a role for Fellaini at the club when we have van Persie, Rooney, Mata, etc, for the forward roles.

Been very poor so far and looks completely lost playing in that position, think he will either get pushed further forward or subbed if he doesn't start to have any impact on the game.

It's as if he doesn't have a defined role in the team, or perhaps it just seems that way because he looks hopelessly lost.

Gary Lineker pretty much said as much when he listed all the people at the club better in the hole than Fellaini. Fellaini is as much as United player as Moyes was a United manager. Square pegs, round holes.

I listened to Martinez on the Beeb yesterday credit the bravery of the sides in Brazil for attacking, and as I did I remembered Moyes' Sunday Times piece saying its been a poor World Cup for defending. One man looks to play football, one looks to make it hard for others to play. Fellaini might work for the latter sort of manager, but for anyone wanting to control the game and attack with verve...

Fellaini just has to go.

Indeed. There is simply no role for Fellaini at the club. He's poor as a holding midfielder, not much better in a box-to-box capacity and useful to certain teams as a target man. Unfortunately, United aren't the latter, so he really cannot offer anything here.

He's probably the first team midfielder I'd like to see leave the most - Anderson aside. Much-maligned Cleverley doesn't have the ceiling to become a starting midfielder for us and he is a very limited player without even one outstanding quality, but at least he is a player who is a befitting of van Gaal's philosophy when high on confidence and in form. I do think LVG can revitalise him to some degree.

As far as I'm concerned, Carrick's place at the club is untouchable, despite having a disappointing season because he is by far our best midfielder. I don't expect him to be a starting midfielder for us next season, but the fact our midfield will vastly improve should benefit him greatly if we aren't so dependent on him. I don't believe it's the realms of possibility to perform near the standard he set when we won the title.

And with Fletcher, his energy and work-rate has unfortunately diminished due to his illness, but he could still prove more adept than Fellaini for the holding midfield role if partnered correctly. Plus, we could still receive a fee in excess of £10M for Fellaini. Leaving sentimentality out of the equation, Fletcher wouldn't fetch for much. Even just selling Fellaini to recoup some money would be worth it, because our outlay is inevitably going to be sky-high come September.

His only role as a footballer is to give the ball simple and run into the box and wait for a cross. How anyone can think this man is a competent midfielder is beyond me.

Belgium and Fellaini having a much better 2nd half, cant believe they havent scored

Only just put it on. The commentator has just been ripping into him, he been that bad?

No - he's been nothing special but done nothing wrong to deserve a ripping.
Was pretty anonymous 1st half, more involved 2nd half - if he really had been that bad then Im sure he would have been subbed long ago.

Not really, playing the same free up and up, back and back role he always plays. People not really understanding that. Commentators saying he's a number10 for some bizarre reason.
Good for him. I hope he follows the orders of a manager of a different club next season. He isn't close to being good enough.

This thread is always fun when he plays, 30 shots, 20 on target for Belgium, goals: 0.

'ffs fecking fellaini shit 27.5 milion sell omg he cost 5 bebes omg we could have thiago/fibgerglas/videl/witsul, shit hair'.

Fellaini is awful. I love how people were saying he's so much better for Belgium, but he really isn't. He's a target man. He plays "well" when the team hoof it to him a lit, other then that, he's completely ineffective. No idea why he calls himself a midfielder because he's shit in all the aspects needed to be a good midfielder.

He has been pretty poor, not as bad in the second half but he has been a passenger in midfield for most of the game and only really gets involved when he gets in to the box and tries to get on the end of a cross or diagonal ball.

The Fellaini abuse is so sad, like everyone forgot what he did at Everton in the past. Them lots were crying for him, now he is worse than shite.
Anything noteworthy he did there was as a second striker.

Those with short memories will tell you that. But he put up plenty of good numbers playing as a number 6 in the seasons prior. Fans have short memories and are easily blinded.

He had some decent games but also a lot of average ones as a number 6 and that was at Everton where the standards are lower and they played to his strengths at every opportunity which means lots of direct balls onto his head and chest.

His first season saw him put up good numbers. But they dropped, and only returned after he moved into the second striker role.
He was pretty average there from what I remember, with a few very good games (one notable one being against Chelsea.)

He's better than he showed last year though, I'd agree.

That was one of the worst times, hearing people actually want to sign him and putting forward an argument to why they think he will suit United. Then when it turned out Moyes felt the same, well the season we written then.

I'm not talking about goals and assists and attacking play. Ground duels and defensive ability. In the seasons prior to playing as a second striker he had adequate numbers to play a paper role as a number six or the deeper midfielder in a 2/3. It seems to just be forgotten and the only time it's 'noteworthy' is when he played as a SS. There is room for debate there.

Definitely, there is only really one way to go. Up, but of course, if we don't see much of an improvement this season (providing he gets opportunity and isn't traded) then we'll have an adequate datasheet in which to get more of an idea of where it went wrong.

Obviously I'm not a fan of his but he still has my support. I have to admit though, I can't help but laugh every time he shoots.

Meh, he's a part of a midfield of a team that just got to quarters, his manager rates him and plays him, his team is winning. I guess it's all that matters as for now really.

Yep.

Does the co-commentator have a wife? And did Fellaini shag her?

I've got to admit.

If he had a less rapey face and less stupid hair I would like him about 100x more.
