Mark Ogden

We don't need 5 players. We are not in the CL this year. We won't buy players just to make them sit on the bench. We will do it next year once we are back in the CL.
How many games did Ferdinand, Vidic and Evra start at the beginning of last season? Quite a lot and they were obviously used wrongly by Moyes. We've made mistakes before Moyes came here, but some of Moyes decisions were absolutely bizarre and even if we don't sign anyone from now on, we will be better than last season, simply because we have van Gaal as our manager now. Evra and Carrick should have been used less last season and we should've bought someone in for them, but we didn't. Ander is obviously not the replacement for Carrick, but it's a start.

We also had far too many injuries last season for whatever reason. Something I hope won't happen again in that manner. I firmly believe last season was a blip and that this team is much better than they've shown. I'm not saying we will win it all this season or should have last season, but this team is certainly better than 7th and belongs in the top 4. I also think that if there's a manager that can compensate for such a loss of experience than it is van Gaal.

Big signings should have started in the summer of 2011, the squad between 2006/11 was its life cycle, and between 2011/13 we have been on life support, and 2013/14 was when united finally flat-lined. I call the 2013/14 campaign if I compare it too Game of thrones, our red wedding, with mistakes leading to our dismal season.

2014/15 season I call starting from scratch now, 2 signings done, we need 5 more signings just to add depth to the back and fullback area's along with the midfield, maybe that will be over 2 seasons, but we need atleast 2 defenders 2 midfielders for this season, and dump a hell of allot of dead wood sitting on some expensive wages, especially young and fellaini. With either fletcher or fellaini to go along with anderson nani and young I would hope see moved on.

Agree with you. The approach should be to build the squad over the next two seasons. There is no point in adding flab this season because we don't have midweek CL games to contend with.

Also, I don't see how we can get rid of Young without paying a portion of his wages while he plays for another club. That was one fecked up piece of business.

Oggy is a bit shit when he's not being fed info.

Feel for the guy, he's gone from scoop, after scoop, to absolutely nothing, he clearly isn't as good as other at making stuff up, or it isn't his style, as he has been virtually silent, must be very frustrating for him.

Surely if we sell the guy we don't have to pay his wages! That's absurd. No level headed businessman would agree to that, least of all David Gill.

Pretty amazing life support system though eh? Youd usually expect a person on life support to be lying in bed either in a coma or at least bed bound. The PL equivalent of that would be hovering around the drop zone but avoiding relegation. SAF's brand of life support had us winning the league. If they could turn that metaphor into a medical reality they could really revolutionise the whole concept of hospitals.

The guy has a contract with us, and it can only be cancelled if both parties agree.

Um... No shit Sherlock! You said: "I don't see how we can get rid of Young without paying a portion of his wages while he plays for another club."

You're saying that we'll still have to pay a part of his wages even when he's playing for another club. Either your grammar is wrong or there's a part of this deal I'm not privy to.

Like Andy Mitten I'm not a fan of his opinion pieces. I always get a feeling that these two are only viewed highly because they have "contacts" so readers will look out for snippets of info as opposed to the theme of the article.

Sigh.

Firstly, someone else made that first post not me, so quit the quips & check the poster's name next time.

Secondly, if I must spell it out; the reason that the contract matters is that Young doesn't have to move and take a loss in wages unless he wants to. If, for example, Aston Villa are only offering £50Kpw and we're paying him £120Kpw, there's no need for him to take the paycut unless he wants to. LVG might threaten to freeze him out of the first team, but we can't stop paying him.

However if we agree to mitigate his loss in wages by paying him the equivalent of, say, half the difference for the remainder of his contract then he might agree to move. (That wouldn't actually be a monthly payment on payroll, it would more likely come in the form of a lump sum settlement agreement when he left. Same difference though).

That said, whatever I think of Young on the pitch I don't think he's the kind of mercenary to let 2 years of his career go down the pan playing for the reserves, just to take home a bigger pay packet. But in theory he could do.

Thanks for explaining the situation to him. He doesn't understand the dynamics of player contracts it seems.

The only thing strange is that Clattenburg still has a job. You can guarentee he is going to get at least one game changing call wrong during the match.

He is up there with Uriah Renie for sheer incompetence.

I somehow have this sense of sympathy for him since he got wrongfully accused of racism.

I'm almost certain he actively sets out to make a controversial decision in any big game to emphasise what a "strong" referee he is.

I feel the same, but i also feel since Ferguson supporting him during that episode and United fans holding up that 'Referee, Leader, Legend' banner he's been on a mission to prove he not biased towards United. What is it 6 penalties he's given against us in his last 5 games or something, including 3 penalties vs Liverpool at OT and that debacle at Leicester. I just hope he feels he's proven he isn't biased by now.

I thought the exact same thing when I heard he was going to be in charge of this game. Let's hope it isn't one that costs us..

If that is the case then he'll probably go the Howard Webb route of screwing us over at every turn until he retires to the complete ignorance of the "neutrals".

I actually felt sorry for him during that time. Chelsea were bang out of order in my opinion for that. Even Fergie said it was disgusting. Swings and roundabouts though at least it's not Mike Dean!!!!

Has Ogden turned into another ABU?
He has been mainly negative since Moyes left and the media-leaking got sewed up.

Yeah I mentioned this a little while back. Over the summer he was clearly bitter all his early leads proved false as the club changed tact and his guesses turned out completely wrong. Then for the rest of the season he's posted some really miserable articles about the club and Van Gaal. Especially before Moyes got his new job.

Ogden isn't that great. At least he isn't as bad as Jamie Jackson. That guy is completely clueless. Thought Rojo would be coming in and taking Shaws place. Think he said something about the Di Maria deal agreed stories were nonsense and then di Maria turned up in Manchester a couple of hours later

How do you even get to that position when your only covering two teams in manchester. Did he go to his United 'sources' and they just think he's an idiot and feed him bs

Yeah lets hope not but some referee's have form in this regard unfortunately. Mike Riley was another that prick Moyes said before the 2009 FA Cup semi that he was a United fan. Worked a treat the spineless tosser turned down at least one stone wall pen that i remember for a foul on Welbeck. So easily influenced and he's now head of the referees, which might explain why Referee's are so bad these days.

Jackson claimed there were no plans for Di Maria to fly to Manchester to complete his signing as Di Maria was mid air on route to Manchester to complete his signing.

Hes fecking hopeless.

It's very funny because you'd imagine his sources are people at the club. So someone at United just told him the opposite of what was happening. Classic Woodward
