Marc-Andre Ter Stegen

It seems a lot of places are reporting that Barca have signed a pre-contract with him. Pretty interesting that they might even move Valdes on a year early if so. On the very small amounts I've seen of him he looks a very decent keeper.

Delighted if true to be honest and I hope he become good. Makes it very likely De Gea will be with us for a long, long time.

Agent says hes not going to Barcelona. Only seen him play once, but wasnt impressed after hearing his name a lot as one to watch out for. Seemed to spill a lot

Him, Courtois and De Gea are the 3 main men going forward...

Still could include players like Asenjo/Akinfeev etc

Asenjo? He's barely played any football in the past 3 years. Back-up at Atletico to de Gea then Curtois.

Never seen him play but he's been incredible on the last 2 Football Managers (who scout extensively and often use real scouts) and whenever I've seen anything about up ad coming players in the last 18 months he's been on it.

It's been denied by his agent and both Barca based newspapers.

Marca TV broke this story and it's about Barca so to be taken with a pinch of salt. Top potential, btw.

The hallmark of Rosell & Zubi's negotiations with transfer targets is how economical, stealthy & successful they ultimately have been in who they sign. Cesc & Alba were both signed months after rumours of pre-agreements were not only leaked but agents & club officials vehemently denying them.

No idea if Ter Stegen has had a pre-contract or if he will be coming but it wouldn't be the first time the club closed a deal like this.

Personally, I would like the player and think the Bundesliga's best keeper last season could be a great option - even read he had completed more passes than Valdes last season so he can clearly play the ball at his feet. Still, seems a long shot considering his age, language barrier and lack of experience in Spain but he has the right attributes to want in a keeper

What crap, as usual. Cesc transfer was hardly stealthy. :wenger:

They were unsettling him for 3 years.

The guy at Arsenal for his age isn't bad either. There are few other good young goalkeepers around too.

All depends on how they mature and develop.

Everybody and their grandmother knew about the courtship with Cesc.

Even Alba was linked for a while, though that may have been done quicker.

Besides both of those were local lads who were always going to come back to Barca if they wanted them.

He was starting regularly in the first team at about 18/19 years old and received a horrible injury, hence why they loaned Curtois repeatedly, however I don't believe his stock to have fallen, more that they have had Curtois come in and do a good job, why change what isn't broke?

Obviously time will tell but I think Asnejo will still make it big.

Manuel Neuer is available?

18/19? Try 22/23.

He's older than De Gea.

Tim Krul is also a great young keeper.

Krul is a good keeper, just not in the same class as others mentioned on here. He would be slated if he was playing for a top club and conceding the goals he currently does.

Barcelona is the most prized destination: it's not exactly a difficult sell and the resources the club can harness mean Rosell and Zubi hardly have to scrape around the 31st-August-bargain-basement barrel.

I've seen Stegen a couple of times - looked like your typical talented modern young keeper. Extremely sharp getting down to the low shot, poor in the air, good with his feet.

If Barca really wants him there is no way he will say no.

He certainly is a very talented keeper but I don't know if he is ready yet for such a move he might face similar problems at the start as DDG did here but if he has a manager who is convinced that he is the right guy for the job I can see it being a good move for both sides.

Mundo Deportivo has reported that Barcelona are buying him now, but that he'll stay with Borrusia Mönchengladbach next season on loan.

Valdes was staying last i heard. Saw ter stegen a couple of times late last season and didnt see what the fuss is about. A couple of mistakes all the young keepers make.

I think his point was that it wasnt brilliant keeping in a recent friendly match

On that point its a good thing Barcelona dont like to play the ball out from the back. And its not like we had a Barcelona fan coming on here suggesting De Gea wouldnt be good enough to do so

Unreal in fm13.

The sarky caption was a bit unnecessary, but I don't see why he can't post a video of Ter Stegen in the Ter Stegen thread without you jumping down his throat.

Because a 20-seconds video of a 21-year-old player does not allow for any conclusive evidence as to his abilities, which is what this thread is about. It can almost be seen as changing the information regarding the overall ability of this player considering the sample size, accompanying description and overall tone of the post - making it useless.

To which I could add a more personal take further repelling it from me; the act of showing a young Borussia Mönchengladbach goalkeeper lying on the ground in shame on the eve of his move to Barcelona, regardless of it being the product of a malicious will to misinform or a benign one to look amusing / aware in front of an internet crowd, is highly tasteless to me in light of the recent events which befell a German football player who took his own life just a couple of years ago.

Altogether though, the name of said player and his personal history might now be lost to the Youtube-wired, transfer-forum frequenting average poster reflecting on this, which would then let me invite you to focus on the first paragraph of this post to get the most accurate (if plainly simple) answer to your concerns.
