15M for a 25 year old France international who's the 2nd top scorer in his league doesn't seem terrible at all...

Granted he's free in the summer but we do need bodies up top right now

No shit

But i don't know why he wants to move in January, when this summer he'll potentially still have as many options plus bigger paycheck.

Maybe out of respect for his current club so that they get at least some money for him rather than zilch in the summer.

If the club that he was intending to hopefully join in the summer have expressed an interest to take him now and willing to pay his current club a fee for him, then I can see why he’d want to go now rather than in 6 months.

Would be a no brainer of a gamble, even if we spent say 20 - 30 million on him this January and he does not make the grade we could easily get the same re-sale value back on him

Top scorers in all-comps in Europe this current season (22/23)

He's on the same amount of goals as Toney who I'd also love to bring in but he isn't realistic until the FA makes their decision

Makes perfect sense from the little I know of him. Versatile, decent age, resale value if he doesn't flop.

Why not.

A front line made of Anthonys and Marcuses. Let's go!

We lost cavani and ronaldo so we do need two strikers. Id take thuram as an alternative for cody gapko, i.e. being able to play upfront and off the left wing.

Then hopefully splash big in the summer on Osimen or someone of that ilke.

Maybe even let martial then go in the summer.

It's kinda rare to happen, but good from him if true.

I don't think Thuram is any worse than Martial.

Yeah that's what I would like to see happen

He should be top of our list for stop gap strikers. In good form, offers something different to our current options, cheap price so we likely get our money back if it doesn’t work and we sell him within 2 years.

He came on as sub for France a few times in the WC didn't he? Isn't he another wide left forward?

Must admit to not having seen too much of him beyond YT clips and the occasional Bundesliga Games. Looks a bit of a big lad and not blessed with pace, maybe we are missing a more direct kind of forward from our frontline. 15m Euro seems better value than some of the crazy money being quoted on Joao Felix

Never seen him play but would be nice to finally sign someone decent from Bundesliga.

Looks like it's him. Better than all of the alternatives being mentioned, so if we can get it done early, it's a good bit of business, I suppose. Best of the rest kind of deal. I just hope he does better than our recent Bundesliga purchases. Also, curious how this is going to affect our summer?

It's probably too late because many will have used the Youtube but keep in mind that he is more effective than he looks which isn't difficult since he is one of the most unsightly player that I know, it's like a Aldi version of Muller.

15m seems a bit much for a player out of contract in 6 months.

Haven't seen him play apart from his World Cup cameos but he seems like a very sensible choice for a January budget signing. If he's good enough to get a look in for France he's probably good enough to play a role for us.

good age, good stats at very good level/club, good price, played at last World Cup... even if I could see the future and see he would flop badly, I would still buy him all that considered.

I think this signing is just something to tie us over till the summer and won’t affect it too much. It’s a small fee but more importantly, we need another option up top just now as we can’t rely on Martial as our only out and out striker between now and end of the season. By the summer we will hopefully be under new ownership.

BILD quote the fee at 12M

Ah ok, only saw the 15m figure in the other thread.

He would be a sensible signing even if it's unlikely he replicate his form in the Bundesliga this season with United.

Isn't he exactly the type of budget option people wanted us to take if we weren't going to spend loads? Yet plenty still whinge.

The problem with those type of deals is that they only make sense if the player is good enough. You can look at the price - which is indeed very modest - and think "why not". But our problem in the past 10 years or so has been collecting players who either do not fit our tactics, play a position we have two or more players for, or aren't good enough full stop. If they're cheap it still means a deeper squad with an overall increased wage bill. This is not against Thuram, per se, but that type of thinking that a good price means it's a sensible purchase.

That's what I thought when we bought Donny. I thought that's a sensible purchase for that price. Probably one of the worst signings we've ever made.

The criteria must at least cover; a) do they fit ETH's tactical plans b) are they an improvement on what we have c) is it financially viable. What do we know about Thuram? He has played 235 first team matches and scored 60 goals. Currently on his highest goals per game season with 10 in 15, which is most he's ever scored in a season to date (at 25). According to Transfermarkt he's played about as many games as a striker as he has as a left sided forward.

Maybe he'd be a good purchase, but he'll have to fit.

That's what I like(d) about that potential Felix loan, we know he's not a striker - as such - but getting quality without commitment to bridge us over to the summer so we're not wholly reliant on Rashford's fitness and Martial's fitness/hunger would buy us time to properly address this position in the summer.

One thing I thought in the world cup, I felt he wasn't a particularly strong presser - better than Mbappe, obviously, but is that a potential weakness in his game?

He didn't had a good World Cup but he is generally a decent presser. Though it is one of the players that got sick.
