Marcus Thuram | signed for Inter

This makes sense to me only if we’re looking for an 18-month striker and want to wait for another top young striker to emerge or just sign Kane on a free in 2024.

Buy Thuram for 10M and we can either sell him or Martial in the summer of 2024 and we’ve only spent on wages, small profit on transfers cutting those down.

Not sure how good he’d be. Seemed okay at linking up at times, but but clumsy at others and without the eye catching speed and runs in behind of Kolo Muani, though Deschamps trusted him as the backup 9 over Kolo Muani or calling up Ben Yedder.

From what I’ve seen, I’d probably have him behind Memphis but ahead of Moussa Dembele.

But yeah, my big takeaway from us signing him or Olmo as a false 9 type would be that we’ll go all in on Kane on a free in 18 months.

He is similar to Martial however has more fire in his belly and presses really well.

It’s a very sensible option, we will probably have to pay £15 million.

I think we only sign him if we are looking to sell Martial in the summer if we sign a CF, wouldn’t mind that at all.

Depends if we have a first choice target lined up for the summer. A big signing, Martial and Thuram would seem like too much for one position, however if wages were relatively low then he would become a sellable asset. Not to mention Martial might want to leave if we sign a first choice number 9 anyway.

I‘m not a massive fan of permanent “squad depth” signings, unless they’re young enough to have the potential to become a starter, such as Malacia. More often than not you end up with Donny or Telles. I accept we’ve been left in a position where we’ve got little choice though.
Hope he does, or is sold anyway, the guys a liability fitness wise and isn't clinical enough to lead a title charge. He's also had too many chances, time for him to leave in summer.

We badly need a striker and this one is on expiring deal, scoring at double digit rate in BL and good enough to feature in stacked French side.

On top of that he suits our style and can press too.

wonder those that turn their noses on this deal who else have in mind?

Agree entirely. Can't go too far wrong for anything less than 15m, could be sold again for similar fee in 18 months if needed. We need someone now, it doesn't have to be the perfect player, in fact if simply won't be as they are just not available now. Get him in, 6'3, fast and can score a few goals and for approx 10m...... whats not to like?

Seems like the type of signing that makes “too much sense to happen”. Cheap and seems to tick most boxes. At the very least will add depth to us.

Alas, probably will end up at Juve.

10m fee + 5m signing on bonus + 100k per week. If he does not come good in 2 years time, sell him for 15m. I don’t think he is a star to want starting role right away.
Remember we used to have 4 strikers, now it is just 2

Unless you have an endless source of revenue, these squad depth signings are important, you are of course not supposed to have lots of them since that's what your academy and youth scouting is meant to focus on but generally clubs will have holes that need fixing with a player willing to be a squad player. That's essentially your Rafinha(fullback), Choupo-Moting, Seydou Keita, Chicharito, Sabitzer, Mariano or Diogo Jota. None of these players were signed to be starters but they all were meant to fill a gap and all ended up being key at some point.

It's a general point but too many United fans are becoming irrational and expect(demand) things that not even the wealthiest oil clubs consistently do.

I agree with the point. Jota is a great squad signing if you already have Salah, Mane and Firminho. Unfortunately we were left with a whole squad of squad level players, meaning first 11 quality is needed. We managed that in the summer with Casemiro, Martinez and Antony, and filled the back up left back role really well with a potential first 11 player for the future.

I don’t think we have much choice but to go for someone like Thuram, but I can why people wouldn’t be happy, as we will still need another striker in the summer.

I'm sold! Get him in

But people are unhappy with nearly everyone. They are unhappy when we are linked with a better player because his club wants a lot of money or the player wants a big contract, they are unhappy with a young footballer that care about having guaranteed playing time, they are unhappy with presumably cheap and consistent forwards like Memphis or Thuram. There is always an argument to complain about something and it never actually makes sense.

He is more similar to Giroud. He does not have Martial's quick feet and close control but he is bigger and stronger. Depay is more similar to Martial which is why I prefer Thuram. Felix is of course the better player so if ETH rates Rashford in the No 9 role then Felix is the obvious choice.

No brainer for supposed price and role he'll be expected to play. Choo choo for me.

United need a world class striker, not a stop gap at this point.

Not a punt based on 2 wc games.

I'd rather a loan and obligation to buy of someone that genuinely takes us to the next level
United currently have no striker. Martial is way too injury prone and we have no one for backup.
As mentioned he can play anywhere in attack (backup for Antony too) and would be very cheap at the prime of his career and not on crazy wages.
I mean what is not to like?
It’s not only on two WC games either. You have Enzo going for 100m based on 6 months form and WC.

which WC striker we can get now?

Loads if you read this place.

Think some fans are in fantasy land. Thuram would be a good short and long term acquisition.

Offer them 5m. Take it now or lose him for free in the summer. There’s some decent players contracts running out in summer.

We need depth in the centre forward position though and we are not in the position to go out and get a long term, starting centre forward now. Ultimately this is going to boil down to how we see Martial's future, personally I think he is exactly what he has shown year in year out, he's too inconsistent and injury prone to be a reliable option up front. Do you then believe he is a rotational player? Again you'd like them to be reliably available, and also the history suggests that Martial doesn't deal well with being a back up option. That might have changed with his time in Spain, but I don't think he sees himself as, or wants to be, a backup.

My view is we need to be looking at a backup option who could be here longer term this window, and in the summer looking at a long term replacement for Martial, with him going. I know it won't necessarily be a popular view because Martial has a lot of fans, but I just don't have faith in him.

what tier is the source linking him to us?

wouldn't mind him at all, low risk signing, he's in french national team, wouldn't be a problem to recoup 15M

We need two strikers. One world class and one with high potential that offers something different. Could he fit the second criteria? His price is basically a shot to nothing.
His return is very good this season but what happened last year? 3 in 21 is pretty bad.

Should go for this guy as a rotation option and get Felix on a loan with a view to buying him. That would make us a lot stronger and improve our chances of a cup and top 4.

Tifo's latest sensible transfers video looks at his underlying data, which seems very good.

I'd probably take him. Good physically, questionable technique but it's not too bad and beggars can't be choosers

Is it possible we sign two strikers? One in Jan and another in the summer. We can sell Martial in the summer and Thuram can take his place as the backup/rotation striker.

Thuram would be a good signing I believe and if we're lucky we might be able to get a future signing in Moukoko!

Funny how those four clubs just happen to be in need of a striker

I like him. Speed and power, can make runs in behind the defence and can put the ball in the net and has played as a striker. And honestly I dont see why anyone would be negative about it. We'll most likely be signing more than 1 striker in the next few windows and the joint 2nd top scorer in Germany seems like a good target.

Thuram or Vlahovic are the ones we need now. I done a bet builder on game against Wolves had everything right except for Martial 0.5 shots on target. He was taken off in the 76th minute and hadn't had one shot on goal. That's not good enough for a CF playing for Manchester United.

I like him! Doesn´t have the feet of a Rashford or Mbappe exactly but seems to have decent/functional technical ability and also really strong with good work ethic. Would be nice to have a bit more physicality up front.
Smart move if we could get him for a smaller fee now!

Yeah my thoughts as well but seems Utd aren't even willing to put out £10m on him

Yeah that definitely can't happen

£10m is chicken feed if he can score a few goals that will help us secure CL football and if he fails we can recoup our money by selling him to Everton in two years. If Ten Hag sees a use for him we should go for him, we need depth upfront and we are a Marcus Rashford injury away from losing 50% of our firepower.

Thuram is mid level quality, which might be the best we can get at the moment. What with the 'sporting and financial considerations'. He won't cost much so we can still sign the starting striker we need in the summer. Hopefully get someone to pay good money for Martial. He needs a new challenge.
