Marcus Rashford (Out) | Ornstein: United want to keep, will only consider substantial bids

Rashford simply doesn’t show his ability often enough.

He’s shown it at this level more often than whatever we can probably get on the market is more the point. Even in this poor season, I’d still back him to finish with 10+ PL goals. I think people underestimate how hard it will be to find even that from a LW on the market. And that’s without considering that we know he can hit much more next season if he’s on it. We can count on him in the biggest of games, home and away. What we don’t need is some teenager with a fee tricks to come and replace Rashford, they will probably fail and we’d become a far less faired attack.

60m for Rashford would be an absolute joke, and this new board should be sacked as quickly as they have started if they did such a deal. We should be demanding double that from any suitors.
I agree, in a world where rice, grealish, even lukaku are being sold for £100 million, anything less than that for rashford is a joke

If PSG wanted to offer us cash plus Zaire-Emery then they’d have my attention

If we actually got a decent amount for him there are the likes of Leao, Kvara, Rodrygo, Mitoma who would all be good options.

Do you need that though? Is it better to have a more functional winger that scores less, but creates more for the team?

Mbappe to Madrid
Rashford to PSG
Vinicius Junior to United?
Mbappe will play CF at Madrid. No chance they sell Vinicius.

Our options would be the likes of Kvara, Leao, Mitoma, Olise. I don’t think that’s a bad list to choose from and if we for instance sell Rashford and Antony and get one of them + an established PL striker like Toney/Watkins, that’s a pretty good trade off going into next season.

He will be very hard to replace. He is a forward in peak years who is rapid and has the ability to score 17/18+ league goals a season from out wide.

The problem is the consistency. He’s done it twice in 7 years of being starter at the club and has followed both of those seasons with an absolute stinker. It’s all well and good talking about what he can theoretically do but he just doesn’t do it often enough, and at 27 years of age after starting senior football relatively early, there’s as much reason to believe he will stagnate or begin a Rooney/Owen-esque decline as opposed to putting it together consistently and begin hitting double digits in goals and assist every season for the next 4-5 years. You are hoping that he can be a Salah when evidence seems to point towards Walcott.

He’s also heavily reliant on pace. His intelligence and technical abilities are not the strongest.

Oh I don’t believe it will happen and I don’t think we’re ready for it to happen.

Would be wise to get rid of him.

This is his peak level and he is reliant on his pace. He already has a lot of mileage in his legs.

Nah, not really IMO. I’ve been an advocate of a more team-oriented approach and have mentioned this for years in relation to Bruno and assists, but I draw the line a bit when it comes to goalscorers. We can’t just pass the buck around there, someone needs to score the goals, and if we want to achieve anything - they need to score enough of them. We can’t have a bunch of forwards struggling to score 10 goals, it simply won’t work. And in terms of ‘team play’, I don’t see Rashford’s game as too detrimental to us anyway. What IS detrimental to us is his form. If he were performing consistently at his best, then just being the tip of the spear that can run past and and beyond defenders and score goals is fine, because ultimately, someone needs to provide that threat in a top team. I’m happy for us to become less transition minded behind him, but whatever we do, I think it would be a big mistake to remove a threat that can scare top level defences in terms of pure athleticism and goals. It would make us a far weaker team IMO.

Even if Rashford goes, I’d be looking for a replacement who can offer similar qualities. Mbappé, Vinicius, Leao. Those are the only names that would make me indifferent to losing Rashford. Now on the other wing, I’m far more open minded, and that is because we have what Rashford offers on the other side. I don’t mind going for a less explosive right winger, a more skilful creator etc. But one of the two needs a proper direct threat. If we got one of those on the right wing, then I’d be happy to lose Rashford on the left, but we need one direct threat.

He's not that good dude, he's also on 350,000 a week. We'd be stupid not to sell him.

Depends on what his wishes are and who we have in mind to replace him. I'm once again seeing names like Mitoma, who has 3 goals in his last 30 PL games and isn't close to being a dangerous outlet like Rashford even at the latter's lowest lows.

@Rozay is right and Rashford is way a better player than what his reputation suggests on this forum. He'd destroy Ligue 1.

Asking price should be 70-90m IMO.

Vinícius, Leao, Tel and maybe Rodrygo could be good replacements.

But in all honesty, I'd keep him.

In a world where Kai Havertz went for £65m, Mudryk went for £80m and Brentford are demanding £100m for Toney, we would be absolute dunces to accept £60m for Rashford, regardless of our feelings on him as a player.

It's the wages. If he was on less it would be a lot easier to demand 100m.

For what it's worth, if we got 100m, we should absolutely go hard for Kvara

Havertz is on £275k base wage at Assna.

Let the buying club worry about the wage, we aren’t dealing with Derby County here.

So Rashford "isn't that good", and the guy you want to replace him is Kvaratskhelia...

Mbappe was on 75M a season post tax at PSG. Rashford is like an academy player compared to the money they’re freeing up.

Make Højlund the main goalscorer?

I just don’t see a solution where we buy a goal scoring wide forward.

I just can’t see it happening. Just not yet. We don’t have anything in the squad to replace him and there’s nothing external that’s realistic and worth going to the levels we’d need to just yet. Maybe in a season.

A don't agree. We need a different profile of player. He's a pure counter player. We should be looking to move away from that if we're to become a top side.
Probably even Garnacho is a perfect replacement :D.
People are talking in absolutes as if we already haven't seen a guy playing on that left side well.

I dont want him going now. We need to ship Bruno first. Rashford can stick around for another 1 year.

It won’t solve anything of the sort, it would cost 100m+ to adequately replace him.

Rafael Leao would be the obvious choice but would cost us whatever we got for Rashford.
We won't replace him and I hope the new setup doesn't try to. We should be looking to buy a very different kind of winger (playmaker type)

I'd try and sell for as much as we can get because for every goal he scores he allows the opposition to build play unabated without applying much resistance. And I don't really rate him that highly, and if the club want to replace the goals then sign a inside forward with potential elite ball striking ability who will also help us apply a well coordinated press high up the pitch.

Then I just don’t see a solution where we become even a CL team.

People want a Mitoma who is older than Rashford and has a far lower output presumably as they have just gotten used to seeing Rashford here and fancy someone else to look at. It would be hard to replace this much maligned version of Rashford in terms of output. Mitoma has scored hardly any goals for a year, and will cost what it seems many in this thread are happy to sell Rashford for.

Someone needs to score the goals. And not only that, someone needs to be able to scare defences 1v1 too.

Doesn’t make a lot of sense. Mbappe is their #9, despite buying Ramos and Kolo Muani. That Barcola kid is on the LW. So will they get Rashford with the intent on playing him as a ST? Would be a strange way to go about things.
