If you think those performances were anywhere near good enough, your standards are incredibly low. The reality is, neither of the players you mentioned come close to the levels Rashford reached a couple of seasons ago—who, I should add, played with the same off-the-ball intensity. The only difference was that his goals masked his lack of work rate, just as they do for other top players who consistently deliver.

And as for the "not complaining" argument? That’s nonsense. Go check the Højlund thread—he puts in the work every game but hasn’t scored in 14 matches. Yet apparently, as long as he runs, that’s enough.

Personally, I’d take quality in the final third over players who just run without end product. Unfortunately, Rashford ended up doing neither, but that only highlights a bigger issue. We still struggle with work rate and desire, with or without him.

As I write this, he provides another assist.

What incredible levels is that, 2 months of form justifying his wage, maybe less? What was it 15 PL goals in his 30 goal season. Give me a break.

This isn't a sancho situation. Rashford is actually good, despite what a lot on here like to say. Our fan base is toxic.
It wasn’t the fan base that hooked him at half time in the Porto game or left him out of the squad for weeks. Multiple independent judges had serious issues with him. Obviously the environment he was in contributed to that.

what he needed here was a run of games. He only got 43 games last season and a paltry 24 in the first half of his season, so how could he possibly show his worth?

Seriously though this is the dream scenario - a little run of productivity to convince villa or somebody else hes worth more than he is. if we could con anybody into given anything close to 40million it would be fantastic

I'm pretty sure the forum members here pressed "sub off" button like in FIFA after he couldn't be bothered to do the bare minimum in that match. So we are to blame yes

yep and boy i ended up with egg on my face, came off the bench to rocket his goals tally to 11 PL goals in 2 years. Cant believe we let this guy go.
How dare you have standards for our attackers that's better than Rashford and also the attackers we have now.

we're in the cycle of rashford that we were with sancho for a couple of weeks at chelsea. A few voices rise up celebrating his obvious talents and the clubs idiocy in letting him go, despite mountains of evidence that he cannot deliver here, and then in a few weeks they go very quiet as he reverts to dogshit. Its the new form of self torture of united fans - convince themselves utter dross are actually great. Pogba should be back here you know? Pure talent.

Exfeckingactly....

Still gutting to see him wearing another teams shirt. I would love to know the exact reason he downed tools for us.

I dont particularly care to be honest. The day I saw him strolling in an FA Cup final against city was enough for me. Then it somehow got worse. Delighted hes gone and good luck to him elsewhere, but he was done here. finished. crap. A terrible presence with a circus of british media who seemed weirdly obsessed with such a middling player who couldnt even get in the england squad.

He was really dangerous for them today. Beat his man quite often. Hopefully it continues so we can get some decent money for him.

This.

There is still a fantastic player in there, he just decided to not show up in a United shirt anymore, despite ample opportunities to do so. That 350k contract destroyed his focus and love for the game.

Last game he cost them the TAA goal, but this time he won it for them against Chelsea. Good reaction to poke it through across goal for the equalizer, and good cross to find Asensio for the second. Kept beating his man, and had the crowd oohing and aahing each time he did it.

Villa would be idiots to not take that deal at 40m, but we'd also be idiots if we didn't let the United version of Rashford go.

£40 million 'pure profit', and £300 k off the wage bill will be massive for the rebuild in the summer.

Youu just hope Villa don't mess aboout and trigger it early in the summer window.

The alternative is playing Zirkzee and Hojlund.
I know, but that still doesn't take away the poor performances Rashford put in when playing in a United shirt the past 2 seasons.

He is miles above Zirkze and Hojlund
That doesn't take much doing but read my comment above, the performances he put in for United weren't keeping him around, especially the wages he was being paid.

I’m pleased he’s playing well because I never want to see him in a United shirt again. He absolutely gave us the two fingers this last year or so. His half arsed efforts especially whilst the team were struggling will and should never be forgotten, especially when he’s a local lad that apparently loves the club. Let’s celebrate he’s doing well and get some money for him. Good riddance.

This scenario isn’t remotely similar to Sancho and you’d have to be blind with hatred / disgust / whatever not to see that.

Yeh. Just like i loved it when Sancho played well when on loan with Dortmund. Just knew some sucker would fall for it.

Looks a completely different player. Looks way happier as well, even just the body language. The reality is if we aren’t playing an LW though there’s no spot even if the club thought his attitude was fixed.

FFS Rashford literally got an assist today with his left foot, talk about rubbing it in. Don't think I've ever seen him use it before.

I’m really not seeing this alleged dramatic improvement. Did his usual ruining multiple great situations by dribbling up blind alleys with his head down and a classic Rashford moment in injury time when Villa had a 3v3 break which quickly became a 2v3 when he decided he couldn’t be arsed running quickly.

Even at his worst at United he was capable of one or two good moments in a game. He’s keeping that up and he’s surrounded by much better attacking players which are adding a gloss to his contribution. He’s not an awful player and he could do well for them but he’s done nothing for Villa that makes him look like someone who was worthy of what he was earning at United. This is a footballer who was amongst the very highest earners in Europe. He currently looks like an average to moderately good PL winger. One of at least a dozen of a similar level.

Nothing I’m about to say means I wanted Rashford to stay. It was time for a change, for his sake and ours BUT…

We can all go along pretending that all the good players we’ve signed and brought through become shit because they’re selfish overpaid cnuts, or maybe, at some point, we start wondering what the hell is in the water at this club.

I don’t know if it is the weight of expectation and the size of the club, or it’s the contracts we’ve doled out that created a terrible environment, or the mismanagement top to bottom that means no one thrives here long term, but IMO we have a good amount of evidence now that something is off that goes beyond one player or one set of players.

If I was to ask you to make a bet on if Dorgu improves from here on out, or becomes just another shit player who our fanbase can’t wait to get rid off, where would you put your money? How many signings have met expectations, let alone exceeded them, over the past decade? How many academy players came through and stuck around and performed well?

Good to see him perform well for Villa. Hopefully he gets a move away from United in the summer. And more importantly, hopefully the money goes back into the United team and not to pay off some loans/dividends.

We miss absolutely nothing about Rashford, he wouldn't be out on loan if he performed as we expected him to.

He was Amorim's top scorer since being appointed even despite not playing. I think Marcus inclusion guarantees goals he offers a threat but I think he should have left irrespective.

I think it’s less actually him, not to downplay anything, but more just playing with Emery who is fully bedded in at Villa and in a team that knows its roles etc. He’s a limited player but as a LW who plays quite high he is effective. I would suspect if you viewed his heatmap from Villa compared to when he played for us, he’d be way concentrated around/near the opponent’s box versus deeper for us
