Those stats can’t be right since he scored 17 league goals last season?
I think the problem with Rashford's "stats" is that they are very good in isolation, but rarely that good in the PL. 17 is his highest PL tally, which is decent, but not fantastic. He's never hit 20+.

He scores at a good rate in other competitions, which boosts up his overall tally when you take into consideration full appearances and goals scored. In the PL he is a 1 in 3 man, which again, is decent-ish, but with the volume of shots he takes + how his build-up play is quite average, it's not the most glowing reading.

Rashford is a decent level player who has some fantastic bursts of form preceded and followed by some very low levels of play.

Why not? All goals and assists in all comps in 2023 for players currently playing in the top 5 leagues. Xavi Simons is the one anomaly as he accrued most of his in the Netherlands before going back to PSG.

It’s wild the spin in this thread. He’s been one of the forwards of the calendar year so far, despite this recent run. Hopefully he can kickstart again soon and finish on a high.

The stats are correct, the wider issue would be that out of those 20 goals, 14 were scored within the space of two months (jan and february), 16 matches. While the remaining 6 goals are spread over 28 matches.

Assist wise it’s a better spread.

Calling this a “recent run” is a bit of a stretch.

Zlatan, Lukaku and Ronaldo had same number of PL goals as Rashford did but you dont see posters praising them for that.

Why do we make up history? Zlatan, Ronaldo and Rashford were all praised for their contributions in those respective seasons.

Very one dimensional player who very quickly plays within himself when things go wrong.

The team in its current form cannot sustain him being a liability. Garnacho at LW brings more urgency and energy, as well as support for the LB.

ETH may give him one more start after the break, but I think his patience is wearing thin, the early substitutions show that.

Rashford is always at his best when he’s in full flight and running at a retreating defence. He’s much less effective when we’re playing the ball in front of a defence and he has to make something happen from a standing start (like we usually play at the moment).

As per usual with us, it’s about getting the best out of the players we have, rather than thinking all we need is to bring in player X to make us better.

Rashford looks good here because he's not England's main man. Instead he's more of an outlet to stretch the oppo back line. He also plays without ego because he knows he's not one of the best players, he has to work hard like everybody else, else he'll find himself in the bench.

He's not played much differently tonight than he has for us this season in most games. This is basically the arsenal away performance,

Shock he plays better when better players are around him in the final third. Rashford is not cut out to be the main man he will shine playing off one. United need a multitude of forward options especially on the right and some fullbacks to reinvigorate the attack.

Should still be on the bench on Saturday. Maybe it will light even more of a fire in him.

This is why you need proper competition in every position and we should forget the idea of First Choice and Back Up. We need a squad full of players who believe they can be starters but know they have no guarantees.

Just got praised by Southgate on TV for his brilliant workrate today...I also noticed that he worked harder today against the ball than normally for us.

Anyway, I hope this will give him the confidence to kickstart his season for us.

If Rashford is your 3rd best attacker then you’ve got a damn good front line. Woefully miscast & pilloried by his own fans.

His confidence looked shot these past few weeks. Hopefully that goal will help give him the boost he needs to return to form.

Im prepared to get killed for saying this…

I didnt like the finish. Yes he scored but he
Just hit it hard rather than placed it. More often than not he gets these finishes wrong because he is going for power not placement. Look how close the ball was to the keeper, Its like he refuses to learn how to score with placement. He should be placing the ball nearer to the side net.

Go on, kill me…

I absolutely get your point. There are definitely situations where he need to mix it up a bit and try to curle one into the corner rather than always smashing it.

But i think today it was the power of the shoot that surprised the Keeper and therefore didn't made him able to react. So i think in todays situation it was the right kind of shoot.
It was a sensational bit of play from England starting with Fodens little flick and ending with Rashford smashing it into the corner.

from his perspective, he’s probably looking around his England team mates…

Bellingham
Kane
Rice

and thinking f#@k me this should have been the Utd team… all of them were available this summer…

That’s what his game is about, I think it suits him in a way as he can get a lot of power from little back lift and these modern balls do swerve the way he often catches them.

There’s always things a player can do better and I think we can all remember instances of wishing Rashford had a bit more composure but I’m not sure it’s that big a deal compared to other aspects of his game.

A valid point the United attack is woeful. Take Rashford out the attacking line who steps up  it's comical. Absolutely Marcus has been in bad form at the club but he's still an outstanding player for the team. ETH was deemed to have a successful first season single handedly because of Rashford.

I like how you’re imposing your own perspective and thoughts on him. Maybe Arsenal under Wenger should also have had Messi, Ronaldo and every other great player.

Well he’s being out performed by newbie Hojlund so far so it’s not like he’s been the standout player. And last season he didn’t carry us. He was part of a group of top performers which also included Martinez (our best player till his injury), Casemiro and Bruno.

In your dreams perhaps
JB - agreed with Madrid and only wanted to go there. Even the English favorite (Liverpool) dropped out
Kane - not a chance in hell they would sell to us. You’re dreaming if you think otherwise
Rice - over a hundred million. United fans would have been on his back before a ball was kicked. Rumour is that he wanted to stay in London

Are you implying that Sancho, Martial and Antony aren't good enough?
I guess we could of gotten Rice with the Onana+Mount money, but the other 2 impossible.

That's pretty much it.

None of them were ever coming to Utd.

He definitely carried us last season. Nobody else was stepping up to score our goals.

That and the fact that Kane was wide open waiting for a pass. His goal was excellent but had it not been scored, question marks would have been raised as to why he didn't pass to Kane there.

He tries that move almost every game in the PL and the defenders easily close him down. Passing was 100% a better play there but just like you, I am aware posters are going to jump on me.
