I’m so so far from his biggest fan, in fact I’ve been onto him way before last season but the comments in here are surprising I thought he was rather decent today. Maybe my standards for him are very low
I thought the same. Not good by any means and went hiding for 90%, but had some good moments. Also no headless shooting. Attacking wise our most decent player although this is not saying much.
Still would sell him for anything above 50 Mio, he might need new surroundings to get more out of his potential.

I think Martin Keown made some good points about Rashford.

Rashford seems to be struggling with similar problems to what Sterling had when he joined city. He always wanted the ball to feet and constantly running down dead ends. Pep really developed Sterlings off the ball movement and running which took his game to another level.

Our coaches really need to work on Rashford’s movement and runs off the ball if we are to have any hope in him becoming a good player. He needs to work on the timing of his runs and making darting runs in behind defences. How often do we actually see Rashford make a good run which puts him through one v one against the GK. Nearly every involvement he has in the game is him receiving the ball to feet then wanting to attack his man without any plan or foresight as to where he wants to end up.
It’s nothing to do with his movement, his movement is probably one of his strong points. His problems are he can’t be arsed to run when we don’t have the ball and he’s technically not good enough.

Can only play in a counter attacking side similar to Dan James. Utterly useless in any other setup.

I will insist again.
I believe him to be a striker, not the type with back to goal. Just the poacher type.
Yet for his profile we keep avoiding putting him in a position where has to compete to start.
His lack of creativity rules him out of that wide forward berth. That position should be Garnacho’s till we sign a more experienced/better wide forward.

Can't head the ball, no left foot, no real instincts inside the box of where to be. A general lack of variety in his goals. He's no poacher.

Yeah, he played well. Probably our best player (although that’s not saying much) Stats support that option too.

Thought he was ok in a absoulte shower of shite, probably the best of our attacking players.

Think both him and sancho suffered from the Ronaldo factor in this game, Ronaldo makes no selfless runs to create space for either to operate in, he doesn't come out of his posistion to link up and combine around the penalty area he just goal hangs basically. On the rare occansions he does come to get involved he either goes to ground under any physical contact or looks to try and get a shot away.

Its telling that with martial at number 9 the front three looks alot more fluid and dangerous. Because martial makes those selfless runs pulling players out of posistion and he happily comes and gets involved in the build up playing one twos looking to get other players in.

How many times do we see Ronaldo demanding difficult balls to get him in goal rather than trying to disrupt set defences with clever fluid movement and build up play that involves everyone.

ETH has a huge decision to make if martial is fit for next week, I know what I would do I wonder if ETH has the bollocks.

We won't be making any progress as long as he's allowed to kick a ball for this club.

Always looks to shoot from 25+ yards out and hits the defenders shins 9/10.

Shoots when he’s supposed to pass and passes when he’s supposed to shoot. Completely off his game and had been for too long.

There was a situation yesterday right around the edge of the box, where Bruno overlapped him and would essentially be free on goal. But as always our Rashford tried to shoot through or inbetween to defenders.

I certainly wouldn’t say he played well. He was terrible just like the rest of the team. The only one who had any ounce of credibility was Malacia when he came on.

Those stats for Rashford were mostly in the second half when the game was completely gone. Brentford had mercy on us and stopped playing to see the result out. There’s no point when you’ve been blown away within 35 minutes of the game.

How do you know? I only watched the first half and he played ok while I was watching. There’s been plenty of very poor performances from him over the last season and a half, so it’s not like there hasn’t been loads of opportunities to slag him off. I always find it weird when people basically refuse to see a good(ish) performance amongst the poor ones.

I remember when we all thought he was shit because of his poorly shoulder… hasn’t been the same since

I watched the whole game and I honestly didnt see anything at all from him to make me think “he played well” in the first half of the entire game. Literally nothing. That was the same for the whole team. It was an absolute disaster. I don’t bash players for the sake of it, but I can’t pick a single player and say he played well for us that half never mind Rashford.

@Pogue Mahone

I felt he passed the ball better than he usually does, especially in the first half.

Played a nice through ball too.

I feel like this is why me and some felt he had a good/ish performance without any product.

With some of our players I feel like it's now got to the point where I'm reminded of the naughty kid at school analogy. When someone is so bad that you lose all hope, expectations disappear and standards become so low that any minor positive thing they do is blown out of proportion and they are rewarded for doing something they should already be doing as a bare minimum.

Literally the very first minute he flicked the ball over a Brentford player drove forward and almost played Ronaldo through. There were other bits and pieces that he did well. It wasn’t a great performance but it was fine. Anyway. Your mind’s obviously made up, so whatever.

Well again, if the school is shit and the class are all crap - then a good kid even at his minimal then deserves a bit of recognition for performing even basically decent by himself.

This is how I feel.

He was better than Sancho yesterday…

He was better in the second half as we managed to move it a bit quicker at times and get him a bit of space. Laid on two really good chances for Eriksen and looked dangerous when we got him involved. Him and Maguire were the only two starters who did ok.

No he wasn’t that bad, if anything 2/10 is slightly lower

The only thing I can remember from his appearance yesterday is a botched shot, after running into 3 defenders. He's just bad.

At least he hasn't started doing this yet:

Funny thing is, If he'd continued running, he could've had a shot, from the left side of the goal. Rashford would have ran all the way, just to miss.

Both him and Bruno were getting some ridiculous excuses for poor form back then. People were making them as if they're always tired and a rest will make them good again. I mean yes exhaustion plays a role but when it's said in every poor performance it becomes ridiculous.

A "fine" performance with yet zero goal contributions? Come on... He's been wank and it's been the case for almost two years now.

I’m not arguing about (or even discussing) his form over the last two years. Just yesterday’s match. When he was ok. And I’m using the word fine to mean ok, nothing more. Although obviously it means he stands out in a match where so many United players were absolutely shit.

He apparently believes himself good enough for PSG where Mbappe, Messi and Neymar play - almost certainly contract negotiation games but, if we take it at face value (as he hopes Arnold and Murtough will), he should be doing more than being ok against Brentford, (and that being his best rated performance in months). If United are to recover, booting out Rashford could be a modern equivalent of Fergie selling Whiteside and McGrath. They were by no stretch of the imagination the worst players in the squad and McGrath went on to have a successful career with Villa and Ireland but it sent out a clear message that things were going to be different. Kicking out a “star” with more murals than medals and who won’t make the England squad for Qatar would give me similar confidence* that things might change in 2022.

* I was actually pissed off back then that Fergie sold McGrath but anyway….

Don't think he stood out. Managed not to be the absolute shittest of a bad bunch I'll give you that. But I do think that eg Sancho was even worse. Did feck all.

Our squad needs such a radical overhaul we desperately need to find at least a few players that have a future here. I would have Rashford, Sancho and Martial as the most likely to thrive if and when all the other broken elements are fixed and we start to look like a proper teams. Worth a go anyway. We can’t sell everyone*.

*Yeah, I know. We actually can’t sell anyone. No matter how hard we try.

Yeah, that's the thing. if they can't be arsed to track back in the second game of the season, after losing the first game, I don't think they should have a future here. Those are not connected with tactics, those are a very basic thing to do for a footballer, and yet they can't do it

This guy has a mental block since his back injury, he simply doesn't go full throttle anymore. He use to have the intensity of a Liverpool forward, he has lost that now, without that he simply isn't the same footballer.

It's the intensity, bite, aggression, fight (and other similar words) that he lacks so much. Watch any other team and look at how switched on all the players are while this guy jogs around looking at the floor

I think the injury does a lot of heavy lifting in the excuses but even if it impacted him and he's lost a yard of pace it just shows how little else there was there. Talent build on sand

He use to be the kind of attacker defenders hate coming up against the most simply because he keeps having a go at you none stop, he wasn't world class but he was a proper player ever improving. Off ball runs, on the ball and even maintained that intensity defensively, Ole broke him when he worked him to the ground.
But I think the bulk of the problem now is in his head.
