It is dramatic to say. I think he's scored a third of our goals, but what percentage of City's goals has Haaland scored? Teams rely on their best players, what's new. It doesn't make them one man teams. Having Casemiro, Eriksen, and Martial back means we have more than the vast majority of opponents and should be fine. We've got a very strong first 11 even without Rashford.

But we are playing every 3 days and Martial isn't exactly robust.

You are right about having other good players but we don't have enough goals in us so losing our best source for goals isn't ideal at all.

A bit hypocritical because HE doesn’t try to protect certain players. He plays Fernandes and Rashford every minute of every game so often that this was bound to catch up with one of them. We know from research that chances of muscular injury increase over the length of a game with most injuries incurring in the last quarter.

So why did he sub Sabitzer and Sancho off and not Rashford, especially after the game was won at 71 minutes, when the latter has already played more minutes than the other two combined this season. Talk about stupid.

Exactly this, could've easily went with Sabitzer & Martial up top, or kept moved Sancho Right, Martial Left & Bruno/Sabitzer false 9 which would've also gave midfield more cover.

It was bizarre to keep Rash on when he was having a terrible game

Unlike us, Pep had been experimenting with no CF tactic for years. Also Alvarez is very good forward himself for that back up role.

Martial is back but right now he's not fit enough to start game. He seems only have 30 minutes per game by how ETH used him these past 3 games. And Martial fitness record doesn't guarantee he would stay fit for the rest of the season.

Even when Rashford does not score like this game for example, his role to be the threat with his pace to run in behind. Only Antony offers at much lower quality. Martial, Sancho play very differently. It's one hell of adjustment of system, then the talk about replacing the goal

It’s all great in hindsight. But I wouldn’t call a 2-0 game with over 20 minutes to go as “won”. An equaliser at any time makes it a tense and difficult end to the game.

Not really hindsight on my part as I was yelling at the TV for him to take Rashford and Fernandes off after the goal. And the amount of games that have flipped against us at Old Trafford from 2-0 up is minuscule, before we even take into account the dreadfulness of today’s opposition or the fact that Rashford wasn’t playing well to begin with.

I mean it wasn't one of his better games but terrible? Really?

He caused their defence an absolute nightmare first half. Okay his finishing was off but Weghorst wouldn't have even been able to get in the positions he did to finish.

He also got yet another attacking return. An assist for Martial this time.

He wasn't terrible. Nobody was terrible today. We played much better than we have done of late.

He played a key role in the first goal too, keeping possession under intense pressure on the edge of the box, which led to the chance opening up.

It’s sad how quickly the knives come out for Rashford, even now, after everything he’s done for us this season.

Yes terrible, he wasted 5/6 chances alone, he puts them away, he gets subbed and no injury.

No player is exempt from criticism, he has been on an absolute hot streak and I've been loving every second of it but no, he was terrible today and should've been the one hooked/rested.

I don't know where the Weghorst comparison is coming from because I never made mention of him nor would I have wanted him there, a straight swap with Martial would've been the best option as Sancho & Antony were having good games.

Overall team performance was amazing though, but we should've been out of sight, Marcus & Antony are at fault that we weren't by half time.

Knives? Oh come off it, it's a fair criticism, we are at a key point in the season where every chance matters.

He had a terrible game today, an isolated game, I am by no means on his back over a season long performance, this is a player performance thread after all, his performance today was sub par missing 5/6 big chances.

I do want him back asap as he has been one of, if not our best player this season, but we need our players putting away chances.

Absolutely bonkers. It was nowhere near terrible. Have a word with yourself.

He has improved a lot playing as a striker from Ole period, in the past two games he's kept the ball very well whenever he's had opponent on his back and always kept the attack going. It would be great to see him and Martial finally, but looks like it's just not meant to be for us.

Put your knives away and have a word with yourself.

Any other player misses those chances it's critiqued as a terrible performance, no bias or exemptions.

Antony missed same chances, probably even worse, and his thread was full of praise, some are saying it was his best performance of the season.

This exactly! Had this been ole there would have been 4 threads by now bemoaning his mismanagement of players.
I mean ole copped so much flack for pogba sustaining an impact injury in a cup game. And he wasn’t even our best player at the time.

Just checked it and it's a mixed bag in there too after only missing 2.

Marcus missed 3x that today, Antony had a better overall performance than Marcus today (outside of the assist) but as a leading 9 you've got to be scoring, I'd have the same criticism out of any of our players for not taking their chances.

He missed chances, took on some selfish chances when he should've passed and was press resistant with Sabitzer pressing higher on occasion.

I hold him to a higher standard than a player that just joined a few months ago, especially when we've seen what he can do.

I hope it's just a one off and he's back on form for the run in as he's been a major outlet for us but today isn't a game for him to look back to fondly on.

What's the latest on his injury? I was hoping to finally see him and Martial play together for an extended period(they have great link-up).

Ten hag saying it doesn’t look too good so who knows with it being this close to the end of the season!

Just gotta wait and see though in the coming days for absolutes.

He didn't miss 6 chances.

He missed two. The other one wasn't even a great chance as Pickford was already out near the ball.

Other than that, his reaction is what led to his assist of the second goal. He also played a part in the first. Not his best game, but nowhere near terrible.

I saw this interview on Bein with Dickhead Keys and he made a snide remark along the lines of “well this is the Premier League Erik, if you don’t like it there is always the Eredivisie” as if this season isn’t an anomaly scheduling wise and making unnecessarily borderline xenophobic defences of the PL. The utter cretin of a human being.

I really hope Rashford is okay, he has been essentially our only goal scorer for the nearly the entirety of the season.

In reference to today’s game, he must be the worst finisher I have seen who has scored 28 goals in a long time. Feel conflicted typing this due to how important he has been for us and his injury that he picked up today, but he should have been closer to 40 goals on the season by now.

Not to take anything away from him, he’s been excellent, need him back and firing asap toward the business end of the season.

Just remember this utter garbage is coming from same guy who did dirty on his ill wife with her best friend so not a bit surprised

2-0 has never been a score where managers sub off their best players because they think the game is over. 3-0, sure. But not 2-0.
Against decent opposition, sure. But this was as comfortable a 2-0 as you'll see, and considering we very rarely get more comfortable than that (unfortunately) we should be looking to take the opportunities when they come.

Hope the injury is not too serious. Esp at a point where the guy is finally paying the club back for persisting with him. Big loss for both of this is a major groin issue.

Its really laughable that some think he had a bad game because he missed a couple. His hold up play led to the first and he had assist for the second. Hopefully he just misses Forest and Sevilla
After that he has 10 days to recover

He definitely wasn't terrible yesterday. He was a constant threat and deserved the assist for the second goal.

I'm not sure if you understand football a lot if you are convinced that this was a "terrible" performance.

His last two games at CF have been good. Really involved in play as well as providing goal threat. A goal and an assist in those 2 games too. Such a shame he's now injured when ETH had settled on a tactical system that seemed to work.

I thought he was pretty good yesterday, despite the misses

feels like he's a much better option at striker then he used to be

Poor take.
You take Rashford out of that team yesterday and the team performance wouldn’t have been amazing. His runs behind the defence were what was giving Sancho and Antony the freedom to find space. He also was heavily involved in the first goal and assisted the second but yeah terrible

Yeah i thought he was very good. Yes he missed few very good chances but I always back the player who makes so much effort to get into those positions. Goals will come naturally when players keep getting those chances.

His link up play was good, stretched the game and also made some excellent runs. Shame he got injured after Martial came on, he links up very well with Martial.

I need to review my life.

I woke up this morning wondering whether Rashford’s injury is serious or not.

Your life is on the right path and full of purpose, kindness and compassion for the sick my friend.

Beating Forest away and 13th Sevilla at home without Marcus shouldn't be a problem.

Martial and Wout should be enough.
Hell, get Scotty up front he knows how to put them away.

Casemiro and Eriksen back is top shit.

Hopefully getting Rashford back for the Brighton semi, that would be nice.

Felt his body language has been strange the last couple of games. Certainly against Newcastle and again yesterday. The smile has gone and there was almost a swagger of expectation that things would just happen for him, and very slight petulance when they didn’t. Could be the contract talks behind the scenes. Or of course could just be me!

The outcome was done and dusted the moment we scored the second goal. We were mutilating an inferior Everton side at OT and by that time their tools were downed and put back in the potting shed.

My objection to subbing off Antony instead of Rashford wasn’t a premonition of injury to Rashford, although I should have considered that at the time. It was based on Antony having an unusually good hand for us and being subbed off early for a striker didn’t make man management or tactical sense. Rashford was contributing well enough but was nowhere near his top form — and I have to believe after reading that last 10 or 15 posts here no one would argue that Rashford had put in a top performance — and didn’t need to stay on to salt away victory. Antony, whatever rise his faults may be, does track back and can be useful in defending a late lead.

There was simply no defensible reason for subbing off Antony instead of Rashford for Martisl in that particular situation. Not hindsight…I said so right at that moment in the matchday thread

But here we are and let’s hope it’s only a month out of action. Let’s also hope Sancho and Antony can build off their fantastic performances yesterday. We need them to step up.

Don’t think too much has changed. He’s always been head down and focus. The playing “with a smile on his face” was an exaggeration to begin with. It was because he was scoring goals. He’s always been the type to keep his cards close to his chest and not overly emotive in a positive way.

The only time I’ve seen him celebrate crazily was his penalty against PSG.
