He's not being scapegoated when almost every other player is also getting slaughtered.

Precisely. I dont think I saw many player performance threads where a player didnt get a collective bollocking. Rashford's criticism is repeating what we are continually seeing this season from him.

Thing that got me the most last game, was the general attitude such as flinging the hands up in the air, walking back when he should be quick to get back into positon etc. There were others that did too, so not singling him out on this but it was very noticeable for someone who has done sweet feck all this season.

He scored 20 goals in all competitions and got 11 assists from the left.

That's a more than decent return mate. Look at the numbers the squad have this season by comparison. It just shows how underated those numbers are.

Sancho has two goals and Zero assists and it's the 29th December.
More like they flatter to deceive. Last season even when he was scoring goals or assisting his overall gameplay was piss poor. Most of the time he couldn't even do the basic things right and then he scored a goal and people were happy completely ignoring how bad he was the whole match. Happened numerous times last season and then you criticized him and people were going in with stuff like but he scored, he played on the right, he's probably injured, he woke up on the wrong side of the bed....
This poor form isn't just current season. It's been going on for at least a year and the goals were completely masking his overall gameplay in the eyes of some people here.

Well said. The warning signs have long been there that this would be what we were left with when the sporadic goals dried up. The standard of play and effort is exactly the same as last season but he’s not playing as far forward this year and the team is now geared towards getting the goals through Ronadlo and not him.

Worrying thing for me is that despite the performances he's putting in he's still gets picked week in week out so what the hell are the other lot doing?

To be fair it's hard to play football and fighting against Boris Johnson at the same time.

He's not being scapegoated when almost every other player is also getting slaughtered.

The one or 2 who could replace him need the run of games that's been afforded to Rashford. He's been really poor throughout 2021. Time somebody else got the same chance to get some form.

Elanga then. Sancho hasn't shown he deserves it. 2 goals and 0 assists in half a season is truly dreadful. Actually less output than Rashford.

Play the kids. Sick of watching these prima Donnas now.

You've said this in a couple of threads now but do you really believe that throwing kids with very little experience into an already dysfunctional side will be good for either their development or the team itself?

I genuinely think this season is fast closing in on write off territory. We look all over the place from front to back. By the time we get it together I fear it will be too late anyway.

Our games in hand are Brentford away and Brighton at home. Watching how they did last night and how we are playing I'm not confident of winning either of those games.

If we're not going to get top 4 then I don't care where we finish in midtable. Rather see some of the kids play and get the prima Donnas out.

Cavani and Donny should get their chance. After those two I'm struggling to name a senior player I want to actually see play apart from the keeper. That's how bad it is.

I thought it was the injuries that hampered him but he's just been so, so sloppy to a degree where it's impossible to tolerate.

I get the frustrations but chucking the kids in to teach our players a lesson is not the answer. They need to be introduced slowly and carefully, not to prove s point. Throwing them into a dysfunctional team could negatively impact them imo.

It might do. Or it could give them the chances they are craving and give more established players a good kick up the backside which they need.

Are you really advocating for more of the same then? These players are proving that Ole wasn't the only problem at the club. They had a full week to prepare for Newcastle and put in that showing??? That's not on Ole anymore. Gerrard got Villa playing well after just 1 game ffs. You could see fight and a plan. I'm yet to see anything from this team.

I honestly don't care for the vast majority of them.

I'm advocating for giving the manager more time to implement his style. Something he'll find trickier to do if he's just throwing young, inexperienced kids desperate to impress in. I honestly don't see how that's even a strategy. Sure, give some minutes but what you seem to be suggesting sounds like throwing the baby out with the bathwater

And you see I take issue with this too. This new system is a lot different to the one we've played for the last few seasons. It could take 4 months until it clicks, if it clicks at all. Have my doubts it ever will as I dont think we have the players that suit it.

Then we might be changing manager again in the summer. Poch is the current favourite and his teams don't play this style of football. Ten Hag teams play a slightly different way too.

I just don't get this Rangnick 6 month experiment. We'd have been better getting someone else in on temporary basis who plays a style of football we actually understand and have the players for.

We've been outplayed by Norwich and Newcastle. It's a bit of a mess.

But, again, throwing kids in because you're pissed off won't change any of this

You're probably right. I think that's just the general apathy I have for the team right now.

DDG is currently odds on favourite to be our player of the season. Think that just about sums up where we are as a club.

Missing out on the CL might be painful for us but it might prove to be a blessing. I think we need a reset again. Hungry young players and a young manager with fresh ideas. Get rid of the obscene wages and inflated egoes.

I agree with you. It's been awful to watch of late and so many of them need either binning or a massive kick up the arse.

He never ever plays with a smile on his face anymore. He doesn’t even show any emotion. What happened to that guy who was playing with aggressiveness with a smile with the workrate and with the never say die attitude ?

I don’t want to think that he has become too big for his boots and thinks himself in the same league as mbappe Ronaldo neymar etc? But is that a possibility for his sulkiness, poor attitude on the pitch and awful body language ? Because he doesn’t even work hard in matches anymore and if his stardom is the reason behind all this then what can be done now to rectify that?

This 100%.
Never mind the Europa league and the Micky mouse cup, Marcus scored 11 PL goals last season.
2 at the start of the season, then 5 were close together in December, his only decent spell all season.
1 was in the 9-0 rout of Southampton, when everyone and his granny got a goal.
He scored in games where he was piss poor for most of the game and showing the same lack of interest or desire that we currently see.
You can’t take away that some of his goals were vital, especially where we were struggling or coming from behind, so kudos for that; but the stats completely flatter to deceive.

.

Let’s not underestimate the mental strength and character question...his career has been quite the fairy story up until about 18 months ago. Hard work and grit got him to the first team, talent and ability made him an excellent option off the bench, scorer of important goals, England call up, media profile raised , new shirt number taking over from a legend, being talked about alongside Mbappe, scoring goals club and country, Nations darling for speaking about his tough upbringing and challenging prime ministers to do better...

all of a sudden, things not going so well on pitch, niggling injuries, basically gone from being a world star to not even being able to get on the pitch in the Euros and having to watch Saka and Grealish and co.take his place. Surgery, suddenly back without injuury and things still not clicking...

it’s a make or break moment...he either doubles down and proves he still has it or he could really fail to live up to his potential...back to basics I say...he is just a forward player at United. Nothing more, not a leader on the pitch or in the dressing room or in a social context. Just play fuking ball like he used to. Leave the other stuff to the side...just play ball kid.

Marcus needs to taken off the pedestal of being undroppable. How he responds is up to him, but we can’t keep starting him match after match and running him into the ground.

I don’t rate Maximin at all. His understanding of the game seems to be piss poor, but he has good skills with the ball so he’ll nutmeg a few players and ignore the easy pass to a teammate in a good position before running the ball over the line.

Sounds more like Rashford to be honest at least Rashford has options. Normally when ASM is dribbling he has no one in a good position or worth passing to.

So he is fully fit despite looking likes he’s carrying an injury, hopefully he’s just lacking sharpness.

I'll have to see it to believe it if he has actually been dropped. He's been a good option off the bench in the past too.

If SM understanding is poor, so is Rashford or maybe even worse. How many times we saw his signature move, got the ball, dribble blindly to bunch of defenders, lost the ball and moan ? He cant dribble for shit and wont pass the open teammates

You just couldn't last could you!

anyway for me, so far - Rashford > Sancho

sancho is in a new club and league.
rashford should be miles better. As it is I still think sancho has been better, and that’s saying something because he’s not been great

Sancho makes mistakes but we all can see what he is trying to do while Rashford just play like a blind horse

Sure, just excuses. He has also come from a league and a club where plenty of players have failed at when moving to other clubs.

I'm not saying anyone to agree with what I'm saying, but Rashford in the Bundesliga with the acres and acres of free space from playing a defensive high line would be deadly.

Rashford for the half season pre injury performances - I've not seen even 2 games of that ability by Sancho either for United or even England. I always found his CL performances a level below his Bundesliga performances too.

Let's just see how it pans out - hopefully Sancho can get going.

There's people who rate Werner more than Rashford - when Rashford has better numbers in both years Werner has been in the PL, playing with better managers and all.

You just couldn't last could you!

Not so far under rangnick. Losing his starting spot to players who are themselves in poor form says a lot. He can't afford to blow his next chance whenever that might be,

Insofar as the suggestions his off field activities have impacted his performances, I can’t see how campaigning for free school meals would have any bearing on his form.

Having said that I don’t see why everything he does off the field is beyond criticism because of the school meals thing.

I think what people object to is the celeb thing that he’s thrown himself into when his game has gone to the dogs. Appearing in adverts, launching his own clothing range, shilling his book, umpteen celebrity endorsements and being a regular at ceremonies like the GQ awards…I don’t know if all of that needs to be put in the same category as ‘can’t be criticised because it led to children eating’

United should do a swap deal for Werner with Chelsea. Werner is a workhorse and a much better striker than Rashford could ever be. Get rid before it’s too late like Martial.

The manager said in his post match he was happy with Sancho and Greenwood’s work rate. Definitely think that was a pointed comment. Even if he had all the flaws he has at a technical level he’d still be useful if he worked his arse off. But he puts in the same effort you’d expect from a retired legend pulling on the shirt in a charity match.
