You think we should be solving the Ukrainian crisis instead?

No, but having a personal vendetta against a bloke you've probably never even met because of how he performs for a team you support which in the grand scheme of things has no impact on your life is a little odd. He's been shit this season, it's well documented and everyone has their opinion on it, but it seems to be the vast majority of what you talk about on this forum

This whole thread is a vendetta. We should just get the mods to put a welcome message informing visitors that football doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things and inviting people to leave

I dont buy the "it's because he's on the right" narrative. When Ralf first arrived, he played Rashford in a 2 upfront with Ronaldo, and he was just as abysmal there.

I believe he would be just as bad anywhere you put him. The way he comes on as a sub and still jogs around, even after being left out shows his attitude isn't right. He's lucky he's playing at all truthfully. Ralf has actually been soft with him.

It does say everything about what he's become that he's acting this way though, with him not buying into Ralf's way it seems.

Because the fresh academy Rashford would have been a dream for Rangnick. He would have been a pressing monster just like Elanga is.

The fact he's become this liability instead, in his prime at 24, is all down to him.

And out of interest can you remember which side of the 2 was Rashford operating from?

I kind of feel denying him the opportunity to cut in from the left and shoot is the right way forward with him and right wing is the perfect position for him. He needs to develop his game, he needs to offer more, be less predictable and one note.

But wouldn't that be contrary to how the vast majority of wide players operate in the modern game?

Most wide players are inverted for that specific reason with fullbacks providing width. Right wing and left wing aren't the same position very few players can play to the same level on both sides and Rashford has never shown the ability to perform at a high level there. Some players just aren't capable of switching sides.

Having your mentality spelt out like that is laughable isnt it. I do agree. Unfortunately thats the dross mentality that is riddled in this club and enough employees. Unless ofcourse there has been such bad "luck" and that entirely explains why the club is where it is.

With this kind of pampering no wonder he now has an overestimated view of his worth. No need for a meeting, just tell him over the phone to start delivering or risk being left behind.

I hope you're not blaming Rashford here, Southgate is the one that wants to do this but agreed it's not a good look. Southgate should know better.

I am not blaming him but I am simply speculating that this amount of sucking up to a player could have contributed to apparent attitude problems we now see. Imagine having Ole bending over backwards to apologize to him for merely stating the truth and now a national team manager having to make an appointment to explain himself to Rashford, no wonder he got the shock of his life when Rangnick dared to drop him.

He’s right footed player. The fact many just accept that a right footed player cannot play on the right is the latest in a litany of ridiculous excuses for him.

He CAN play effectively on the right but because from their his opportunities to cut inside and shoot are more limited he sulks and doesn’t make the effort. Just like when he’s not selected in starting XI and he evidently demonstrates his dissatisfaction by walking around the pitch. He’s trying to prove a point. A right footed wide forward being played out of position as a right sided forward, isn’t a thing.

Not that he’s brilliant on the left either but that’s another story. On the left he wastes every opportunity by shooting from ridiculous angles, from the right he wastes every opportunity by running into dead ends trying to create ridiculous angles from which to shoot. “Local lad” wouldn’t negate that for Fergie and it shouldn’t for any future manager
I might be wrong on this, but isnt Mane an example of somebody who was comfortable on one side for Liverpool. They got Salah in and Salah took his side and Mane was put on the other wing. And Mane didnt sulk but instead seemed to just work even harder?
I feckin hate using Liverpool as an example here.

But seriously, football is a relatively simple game no? Some of what he can do on one side might be limited, but thats no excuse (and i agree with you) for him basically not being able to pass the ball, run with the ball, run off the ball and put in the effort. If anything, playing from the right should mean, when the ball is on the left, he has the freedom to run into the box and make up the numbers. He doesnt do that. Instead he gets the ball, slows everything down to walking pace.

Exactly there zero excuses for him looking like he’s got two new legs and nobody has explained the rules of football to him every time he’s asked to play away from the one specific and narrow role he prefers.

Has the guy done something to you personally? Of your last 15 posts, 14 of them are related to bashing Rashford. Christ, we know the guy has been shite, but it's starting to seem like more than just football to some on here. It's a game that has no impact on us in the grand scheme of things, he's shit but so is just about everything else to do with this club, when you start obsessing over shit, you may want to take a step back.
It goes way beyond that for @stw2022 his post history is truly something when it comes to Rashford. If it wasn't creepy as feck as to how obsessed he is with the Rashford hate it would almost be commendable that someone is willing to dedicate this much time and effort into bashing someone.

Really is weird how of his 1700 posts wouldn't be surprised if 1300 of them are directed at Rashford, you would think Rashford is the only player to ever play badly for United.

Why should he get special treatment? He is not good enough right now, so he is not called up - simple as that. Southgate is treating this like he is leaving out some giant of the game. Doesn't help anyone, especially not Rashford.

The English have a weird way of overestimating their players. It's similar to how Declan Rice believes he is worth £80m or how Grealish cost £100m. It contributes to England never winning anything.

i don’t think there is anythIng wrong with that. It is obvious that he has potential or else why all the fuss? He is 24, should we write him off as a footballer? Not yet I say and Southgate clearly believes that Marcus can overcome this, or at least hopes so and is trying to help. Nothing wrong with that.

Marcus has been in terrible form and he is very very low on confidence. He is making all the wrong decisions when he plays. But I don’t think he should be written off.

i agree with you that english players are overhyped, but southgate’s decision to talk to marcus is pure man management and I agree with it

He should not be written off, but simply leaving him out of the squad due to terrible form does not equate to writing off.

As to his potential, he is 24 years old and has now played around 350 games for club and country. Except for getting his form back, I don't think he is likely to improve. It is especially concerning how his decision making has not improved as he has gotten more experienced.

i hear you, but still, if we are not writing him off and believe he still can go back to his old form (at least), then talking to him after missing on the England call up does make sense

I think Southgate should meet with Sancho instead to explain why he's left out after his upturn in form isn't rewarded

Does Southgate plan to meet every recently capped England international who wasn't made the latest squad?

If Rashford can't see why he's been left out after his recent performances, then that says a lot about his sense of entitlement.

Everyone wants to keep their image. Surely Southgate doesnt want to be hated by a book writer. Thats how football works these days. Not explaining stuffs to Rashford = being harsh to him. Stupid culture.

100%

The guy is on 200K a week? He has not improved a bit since 2 years ago. He is a great kid and has done a lot for the community and love him for that. But we cannot be held to ransom. Understand the sentimental side of things but if he doesn’t want to extend we should let him go to Barcelona or whatever club that is willing to pay a fair price for him.

I want him sold, can't stand the site of him any longer.

Shouldn't get even a minute of play in the utd shirt, even in the reserves!

why go to Liverpool. We had Nani playing on both wings. We had Fabio on the left even though he is right footed. No it is selfishness on his part. He wanted to score goals instead of working for the team. Beckham's job was to put in the balls for the strikers to score. That is the job of any wide player and not to cut on to his favourite foot and shoot all the time. Ole tried to bring some discipline to him eventually and was told off. He should be put on the bench until he starts making an effort or sold in the summer.

Seriously. Why would he be any more deserving of a meeting than Sancho (unless I've missed something and Sancho will also have a meeting)?

Wait? Why?
To apply soothing balm over the hurt feelings??

Probably covering all his bases for when Rashfords team writes some emotional piece about how after everything he feels let down by Southgate (pull out the violins) and that while he knows he’s not been in great form he loves England, his first memory of seeing England maybe a picture of him in an England kit as a child, he will always give his all for the shirt he loves when he gets the call… they will try and make Southgate look like a bit of a prick for not picking him. Same way they always blame someone else

Is Southgate still getting knighted?

He's going to be mollycoddled by Southgate? Hasn't he had enough of that already, or is it that he can't get enough. Poor poor Marcus. Everybody is blowing his hole.

You idiot Southgate, this isn't helping the situation.
You want to help him wash his arse after he shits as well Gareth?

Is he going to meet with every other English player who has been left out or is Rashford special?

Did any of you read Southgate's actual quotes before slamming him? Just curious.

From time to time I do go and do that with players [meet them], especially when a player is with us as often as he [Rashford] has been over a period of four years. But in the last eight squads, he has ended up pulling out of five [actually six] while Maguire has been in the team and a key part of the team for massive matches over a long period of time. For various reasons, Marcus has dropped out of that a little bit. We have players in that area of the pitch playing at a better level, so it is harsh but that is the nature of elite sport unfortunately.”

“Marcus is very realistic. He will be searching as much as anybody to get that form back. It is important, perhaps after this camp, for me to go and sit with him and find out a bit more what is going on. But also there is a reality that we are not working with him every day so there is a limit to what that is probably going to achieve. Ultimately there is a big responsibility for any player. I often hear that this coach or that coach has got the best out of somebody but the very best players play well for pretty much every coach they play for. Always as a player you look at yourself first.”

I would say reasonable and measured comments from Southgate, not pandering to him at all. Doing some basic man management of a player he hopes to pick again in the future, while firmly saying he's not picked because others are playing better, and that he is the only one responsible for his form.

Was there a story that says he isn't aware of why he's been left out?

Southgate can decide to talk to Rashford without Rashford having anything to do with the decision.

Reading the actual article isn't cool mate, you're supposed to jump on the hate train and blindly blame Marcus for everything and anything.

Never seen a player so untouchable so mollycoddled ever in football. Atleast the likes of Neymar, Mbappe has the certified talent to go with it. Seems like the managers are scared to say anything, the club is terrified of him leaving, the fans are blinded by the unconditional loyalty to protect him at all costs.

The criticism is labelled as abuse, the terrible performances is described as bad form, the careless attitude is explained as lack of confidence, the lack of application is passed as one of our own, the lack of effort is justified as combination of many things ranging from injury to mental health to separation from girlfriend and whatnot. There is no ending of excuses in sight for a player who is not a Scholes or a Beckham who is just an academy player like they were but with 1/10th of the talent and 1/100th of the attitude and 1/1000th of the care for the fans and the club.

Where did it all go wrong ? How the standards for a united player fell so much ?

i for one, as a lot of us around here, have been criticising his football for quite some time now. However, some fans are taking it too far and yes reaching to a level of abuse. He is after all a human being, a 24 year old (quite young actually). He has been terrible on the pitch with bad decision making, bad body language and bad contribution. Fans should stick to criticising the player’s game and not the player as a human being

There’s zero abuse. He’s getting criticism for being paid £200k a week and throwing a strop because he’s not the golden boy any more
