Thought he played well all things considered. Good pen, great free kick effort, some good link up but isolated most of the game. Will naturally be more involved with Martial ang Pogba replacing dross like Pereira and Mata.

Not sure what can be expected of a striker who doesn’t get the ball because we’re incapable of passing it to him. Not that Rashford isn’t guilty or shit passing too but still.

Exactly. Still won a penalty and nearly added another from free kick.

First time in around 100 attempts he's nearly scored from a freekick. Average game for him again but he won and scored the penalty that won us the game so can't complain too much. He should be stuck out on the RW once Martial returns, he can put his pace to good use there but also won't be too involved in the middle of the pitch where he often makes poor decisions causing our attacks to break down.

I was watching on a terrible river that kept cutting out so have to watch it again but from what I could gather he was pretty rubbish today. Was wondering if he was carrying a knock as really apart from him just not being a striker for him not to make the runs when opportunities opened up for him. His movement was terrible.

He finally took a free kick like beckham instead of ronaldo, and it was one that didnt fly into row z. So thats a plus.

I did find it telling how on around the 70th minute or so, a ball was put forward and he lost out, but instead of trying to win it back, he had a Ronaldo type strop throwing his hands up. Not how he used to be and thats a shame.

This is something he has always done. Annoys the hell out of me because there have been occasions where if he wasn’t throwing a strop he could have got the ball back or done something.

we should expect more from him in open play and not through set pieces. The bar is so low when judging rashford but very high for other players on the forum. He was below average today but we won so thats all there is to it. Nees to improve his passing and control of the ball at this level.

His open play performances have become awful. We will never amount to much with Rashford leading the line.

Agreed. Any other player so bad in open play consistently would be shellacked here, except Rashy who seems to be perenially excused due to youth or "talent"

He walks around the pitch and pretends he’s scored 50 goals a season for the past 4 seasons.

He needs to be slapped back into reality

Attitude towards him from our fans online and at the ground is so toxic at times. I recognise he needs to be more of a handful when leading the line and chastised him second half for not competing for a number of balls, but the attitude of some to him is incredible. Man, I hope he has a good season so we can shove some words back down the throats of some.

Well taken penalty and a good free kick this time. But the reality is we look utterly toothless with him leading the line.

I just hate how he stays diwn forever each time he falls... just get up and get on with it. So annoying.

Good penalty and a fantastic free kick attempt that had Kasper Schmeichel well beaten.

Other than that didn’t really do anything else that put both Soyuncu & Evans under pressure. Was poor at leading the line.

He needs to learn to hold up the ball if he's gonna play 9.

There was a situation today when he did that and James was on the break and crossed to a dangerous area but no one was in the box as Rashford was still down pretending to be hurt

The way we played on the backfoot meant he was isolated for most of the game and hitting it up to him is a waste of time as his hold-up play is poor. Took his penalty really well.

He isnt going to play as 9 though. He only plays there because Martial is injured. Martial is a far better 9 and Rashford will most likely compete with James for the left wing spot.

Then we need a better backup 9 because Martial can't play in all our games.

Won and scored the penalty while playing out of position. Cannot ask more of him

He done the best we could hope for considering the awful support he had throughout the match. Literally alone on an island up there.

I thought his attitude was fine today actually too. Anyone would be frustrated playing in that team today up front.

Looks like he has changed his free kick technique. England posted video where he took in similar way, scored 2/2 in training and against Leicester he hit the bar.

People are so harsh on him and Martial. They both get such little service from our insipid creative machinery.

Yes he does without a doubt have a problem with his intelligence in the link up play. But why not also acknowledge that he does have strong qualities. Despite his awful awful free kick attempts in general, yesterday he hit an absolute beauty. And there was this one terrific skill where he absolutely killed the defender.

"Absolute beauty", "excellent", "fantastic", "a free kick like Beckham".
Makes you wonder how people would describe it if it actually went in.

I just wish someone could quantify Rashford's so-called talent.

What he is unquestionably good at:
-Pace
-Power
-Decent shooting technique

What he is poor at for the level of a top club:

- Touch, especially in tight spaces, or when changing direction with the first touch would allow him to escape the defender

- Dribbling, beyond kick and run on the counter, or the 1 in 5 times his fifa street tricks actually work. As an inside forward he needs
to be able to take on his man, or at least cut across goal with the ball firmly in control at high speeds

- Hold up play, absolutely dreadful. Related to his touch, but also lack of in game IQ

- Passing, and linkup play. Focus less on little flicks that do not advance the play, and just master the basics

- Positional play. Even as an inside forward, let alone a striker, his movement has regressed since he first started

People say he is young and developing, but the core of ball control does not really grow at this age.

Compare him to the likes of Sancho (19), Mbappe (20) , Tammy Abraham (21) , Sterling (when he was younger) and even our very own Dan James (21).

It's not just that his in game IQ and maturity is worse than the above despite playing longer at the top than many, his innate touch and skill
is just miles away from the likes of the above.

If his technical and footballing maturity is poor, what are we left with? Pace and power only.

Our midfield created nothing and were pretty poor overall. But when they did get in a good position there was no one in the box to aim at. He wasn't blameless in the lack of chances yesterday.

It stuns me to see posters who believe Rashford and Martial are recipients of creativity, not generators of it.

Firminho Salah and Mane aren't just finishing off moves crafted by Henderson and co.

The lengths our fans go to defend Rashford and Martial.

Liverpool got creative full back that’s why having Henderson in midfield is still good enough. While we have defensive full back, that’s why we expect our midfield to be creative enough.

You mean the lengths our fans go to be level headed.

Salah and Mane have a fantastic machinery of creativity behind them. Yes they are creative as well and undoubtedly better footballers than the pair we have at the moment but it's deluded to fail to understand the difference in the chance creating foundation behind the front three that Liverpool have, and we don't.

In the modern game your forwards usually do have to create. But it's more important that the collective is creative which is lost on most who are obsessed with mere individuals.

If it's important that the collective is creative, that very collective is made up of individuals. So we need creative individuals.

So we need Rashford and Martial to be creative so the collective can be creative.

And not for the collective to be creative so Rashford and Martial can score.

Stupidity is worse than obsession.
