Before the lockdown, he was coming infield, making runs in behind, getting in the box and scoring goals. The way he just hugs the wing these days, you'd think he was prime Ribery and Neymar in one. It doesn't suit him.

Like most others wasn't at the races, don't really blame him after all these games in a short period

It doesnt suit him because he cant create space for himself in tight spaces. Ole should have removed him way earlier.

His best work comes from the left side of the box, the left half-space. He doesn't work well closer to the touchline as his dribbling can be erratic.

I hate it when I see utd fans write he's young on here... he's 22 for god sake he should be at his prime. He's so overated its ridiculous.

Him, Martial and Greenwood need to play closer to each other ..
This would work if we had amazing fullbacks.. but we do not.. hence Rashford is going to the wings

For some reason he is the only player in our squad who doesn't get any rest apart from CBs. And for some reason fans are using the tiredness as excuse for every single player apart from him. When Rashford has a bad game it's because he is average player who doesn't have much ability, but the likes of Pogba, Bruno and Matic are excused because they are run to the ground - despite Rashford playing far more minutes than them and not getting any rest.

He is also not helped by being played next to Williams and accomodating Greenwood, who apart from scoring, let's be realistic - doesn't do much for rest of his game. By playing Greenwood Rashford is obviously asked to be a creator and a playmaker more than inside striker that he was for entire first half of the season when he was our player of the season.

But he is still good apart from today's performance that was bad, but pretty much expected.

Since when was 22 not young? Martial is two years older and has only just begun to find some consistency. Rashford carried us for a good part of the season, but one or two bad games are somehow enough to erase everything else he has done. He is wilfully underrated by a large part of the fanbase.

He's the least replaceable. If Rashford is out we are left with James whereas with Martial we have Ighalo/Greenwood, if Pogba/Fernandes are out we have Fred/McTominay etc etc. It just goes to show we really need some depth.

Certainly not on the caf.

One thing we have to consider is that Rashford has been playing in the first team for 5 seasons now, although 22 is definitely still young however attacking players tend to mature at a younger age for those that have had good amount of experience on the pitch, especially for the talent that he had shown since he came through the ranks

I'm referring specifically to the Caf as I don't go on Twitter or have the fortune to live in Manchester.

Rashford has shown ample evidence that he actively develops his game. Starting as a fox-in-the-box striker under LVG, he developed some CR7 characteristics under Mou, before flourishing as an inside forward under Ole earlier this season. His post-lockdown role has again been markedly different as he has been asked to stay wide and play more of a creator role, now that we have Martial Greenwood and sometimes Pogba taking up his preferred spaces to attack the goal. He has put in some very good, mature performances there. But he is not afforded the time to learn the role, and as soon as he has a bad game or two (in which almost everyone else played badly), the cries of him being overrated and rubbish instantly return.

Rashford may or may not turn out to be world class in the end, but his current trajectory is very promising and it seems that many are just too delighted to write him off at the age of 22.

Luke Shaw missing affects Rashford's game IMO. Shaw is our best fullback on the ball and and when he's not playing it really shows.

From start to finish this was a shambles

We’re clearly trying to get him to play a wider, more traditional winger role like Ribery rather than as inside forward lately. That’s not his s strength and never will be, we need to play him to his strengths.

Currently he’s actually looking a lot like Martial used to when he was stuck out on the wing. He was a lot more dangerous before the injury. I don’t buy this supposed wide playmaker role for him. He’s been all about pace and power and burning defenders 1 on 1 before he got injured. I think he drove into the box once in any meaningful way against West Ham. No crosses or shots. He was decent against Southampton and good against palace but he’s been poor in every other match side he came back in. Hopefully just a case of finding his rhythm and fitness again and getting back to what he does best.

He’s a good player who’s laughably bad at dribbling in tight areas. Loses the ball practically every single time. Aside from that he’s really improved this season especially before his injury but I think Greenwood and Martial are both bigger talents.

Ridiculous seeing people want to drop him. He's scored 17 goals and 8 assists in 30 games. This guy could be the difference between qualifying for the Champions League, not to mention the chances he creates per games.

I respectfully disagree with this. I replied to a similar comment earlier in the thread (that wasn't as balanced and well-written as yours) with this response:
Not every player is a prodigious young talent like Mbappe, Hazard, Rooney, I won't even mention Fowler and Owen who both underachieved from a similar potential that they showed at the age of Mason.

Look at Henry at 22, completely flopping at Juventus. Lewandowski at 22? Still in Poland linked to a move to mid table Blackburn Rovers. Arjen Robben at 22? Talented cog in a brilliant Chelsea title winning team but still inconsistent. Franck Ribery at 22? Scoring only twice for a Metz team while impressing greatly. Sadio Mane at 22? Still in Austria, unknown and unproven in the top five leagues. Drogba at 22? Playing in the French Second Division. Even someone like Heung-Min Son at 22 was inconsistent at Leverkusen before improving a lot to the level he is now in his prime. I could go on for hours.

Utterly ridiculous. His output has been tremendous this season and half of those games came with Mata, Pereira and Lingard in behind him.

Also played an absolute peach of a ball to Fernandes today which should have been a goal and us 1-0 up

He’s really inconsistent in his playmaking and whilst he’s quite good at it, he’s definitely not at an elite level. Let him play as a left wing forward where he’ll rack up more goals. The experiment is over.

was poor today but I put it down to fatigue

he also has money in the bank as a major contributor to our successes this season.

Was terrible today. Way too passive and just pinged the ball back every time he received it in a good position. Was very frustrating and an uncharacteristically cowardly and lethargic performance.

Anyone saying he should be dropped is a complete Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime though, considering our bench options.

He played an incredible pass in this game to Bruno.

The only player who's created more big chances post restart has been De Bruyne.

You guys are going overboard. He had 1 bad game and all 'he's not that good, he can't play as a wide midfielder' critiques are back.

I don’t know. As I said, he’s inconsistent for me. I see him doing some fantastic things but then he absolutely shits the bed in others. The role he’s trying to play is ridiculously hard to do so I understand that he’s not going to be flawless but what the hell is wrong with him resuming in the role before his double stress fracture. He looked deadly.

But he's been pretty good post restart besides today's game.

I don't see the need to exaggerate IMO.

I also think Shaw is a bigger miss than most of us thought he'd be. He has a great understanding with Rashford and he tucks inside a lot helping the midfield when we're in possession.

He’s had moments. He was excellent against Palace but then just moments in other games. I would say it has been a mixed bag with today pretty much cancelling out his fantastic performance against Palace. By the way I’m not shitting on him. I just wish he was playing in the same role before he got injured. He’s deeper and wider now.

I think it's either because the balance of the team has changed and he needs to accommodate other players, or his injury is still affecting him somehow.

He'll surely get much better as he continues to learn the role, but not sure if that's the best use of him.

His brain looks like it runs on dial-up compared to Greenwood's. It takes forever for him to make a decision on the ball and the only thing he does quickly is giving a one touch pass back when he's passed the ball in dangerous channels. Other than that he's pretending he knows how to dribble a football. Seriously, I don't see it with this kid.

Should've had an assist. The cross to Bruno was brilliant, just unlucky with his second touch

Is he going to post another motivational quote on Instagram today about not hiding like he did after the Chelsea game? Because I doubt that did anything to his performances.
Our players can’t seem to back up their big talk on social media.
