Jesus that’s a hell of a statement considering Harry Kane isn’t even a 40+ goal striker. rashford will be s 30 to 35 goal striker I reckon.

Harry Kane has nowhere near the same level of natural talent tbh. He’s a brilliant player, but he doesn’t have all the tools of Rashford. Without saying, there’s a whole story to write, but Rashford is potentially a different animal.

I thought the exact same thing when I read that, although there are a lot of players who are naturally more talented than Kane who are nowhere near as good when it comes to what they actually contribute to a team game by game. It is definitely very exciting to think about though, especially when you consider that by all accounts Rashford has that same type of mindset that the very best players do.

Is there a player like Bergkamp in world football right now? Can't think of someone even remotely similar
That style of player is slowly dying out.
If he were a young player these days he would be dropped deeper or out wide to accommodate a 3 man midfield.
He / Raul / Del Piero / Totti / Cantona seems to be a dead breed sadly.

I reckon if we stuck Pogba in CF/false 9 he'd play a bit similar to Bergkamp, would love to see that experiment.

I'm not sure I ever imagined him getting this good. Can't imagine how good he'll become...

Would you say Rooney was in this mould?

Remember Maureen hanging him to dry after an indifferent centre forward performance once every six months and immediately recalling the donkey Lukaku (after a huge drought). Jesus christ, dark days.

We even had Fellaini playing number 10 to boot :lol::lol:

Yeah that was a Jose "Genius" Mourinho classic alright

Yeah on the day his finishing wasnt very good. But it was just 1 match. I always said he needs to be playing up front regularly if we want him to be a striker. Look at him go now

Such a shitty way to treat a young footballer. The worst part was we had people on here agreeing with him. I just hope the kid never bothered to come and read what some of our fans had to say about him back then.

Rooney kind of proves my point. He would never have been shifted to the left or up top if it were 1998 rather than 2008.
He's in the mould IMO. I'm not saying he's as good and lesser players like Sheringham, Beardsley and Le Tissier are in that same category and bracket as well.
I can't even think of second strikers anymore. Griezmann maybe? Dele alli? Muller? They're nowhere near to those legends of the game.

Yeah Griezmann was the one that sprung to my mind but I’m not sure he was quite as creative as a Bergkamp. I actually think Ozil might be a good example but probably not as good a goal scorer as the players you named. Maybe hazard could be that player in the right set-up?

For some reason he reminds me/I get the impression that he is trying to model his game on what Cristiano became for us and what he ended up being at Real before he removed his flair.

If this is the case then it’s a good move. Rash is looking excellent of late and long may it continue.

I thought he was a good talent struggling for a while, just finding his level in patches, but he is in fact a world class talent. Ole is getting the best out of him.

He was sensational the first 60 or so minutes. But he faded badly once he got tired. He'll have to converse his energy better.

He reminds me of Ronaldo too. There’s something about his technique that shows he’s practicing all the time. He’s not completely natural, and not as natural as Ronaldo, but it doesn’t matter because he just looks like someone who’s going to make all the skills work through training and dedication. Physically he’s very similar to Ronaldo too. He’s an absolute gem and possibly already at a level to drive the team on until the end of the season.

Back to his usual best, in terms of team play, team press (pressing together with teammates, same tempo and timing) and defensive alert.

The rest is the same, Rashford type of performance.

Unnecessary booking though, but it does show the fire in his belly and he's freely expressing it getting back to that player. Ole is right to immediately sub him out, though that's probably also to do with injury concern.

I know it’s a bit cliche and hard to quantify, but I think he’s got that willingness and desire to constantly improve. He just looks like a player who’s not going to be happy unless he continues to progress.

He really doesn't need to be selfish (as much as some will hate me saying that). His ability to create goals might be a little under rated and if he works on finding his team mates a little more often, then we've got one hell of a fecking beast.

I reckon he could be more like Messi than Ronaldo.

He is fortunate that his skill set allows him to play other roles in a front 2/3 so he can be a starter for England for years to come. Imagine if he was a a traditional CF and Kane would block his path into the first eleven until he is 28 or something.

I have to say, I thought he would become a mid-table striker, but he is starting to change my mind.

My favourite player and in stunning form but let's not go overboard with the praise too soon. He's only 21 and will inevitably hit bad patches, misplace his shooting boots for a while, get tired and run a few balls out of play or make stupid decisions on the pitch. When that happens let's also not go overboard with the criticism. Have lost count of the number of posts labelling him a donkey, the most brainless footballer ever, wanting him sold so as to keep Martial happy etc. Can't forget the post claiming that expecting Rashford to challenge Lukaku is akin to expecting Slimani to challenge Harry Kane.

I hope he will continue to mature, to keep a cool head on the pitch, and also learn to use his energy more selectively because he'll burn himself out sooner rather than later the way he's playing right now.

Needs to go out on loan to a club like Bournemouth if he is going to improve and be a first choice striker at Man Utd.

Yeah, just read the posts under the Juve at home bookmark and the ones after yesterdays game. It's the same exact people giving two completely opposite opinions about the same player in a span of 4 months.

I think we could sometimes benefit from stopping up and thinking about the fact that we have a homegrown player, with a seemingly perfect mindset and attitude, who is one of the most exciting forwards of his generation.

When was the last time we brought this kind of talent in a forward through? It's exciting as hell.

Crazy that some thought he was Championship standard not too long ago. What a talent.

Tbf, his performance level in the last two months is night and day compared to beforehand.

Rashford has stepped up big time and made the centre forward position his own, but you cannot blame fans for thinking he was hopeless when he was... hopeless.

Looks absolutely unstoppable at the moment, but he's 21 so will go through another lean spell soon enough.

Probably a great example of why we should try to be less reactionary but it's not always easy when such strong emotions are tied in.

He is pretty average when he plays out wide though, that's where the whole kick and run thing comes from, because he's not a technical enough dribbler when he plays out there.

I've always thought he's far better as a striker, he has so much more to his game that he can bring in from that position. He'll only get better too.

This

The few times he's played out wide under Ole have been his worst by far, imagine if he was playing there full time? (the reading game springs to mind)

Amazing up front though, and can't see him losing his place to anyone at the moment.

It's difficult to assess the potential of a player based around their performance when they first adapt to a new level of football, or when they are playing out of position.

They lack the experience to deal with situations that they are new to, the opposition are too savvy and after a short while become too well versed in the player's game to fall for what worked against the youth opposition and it can lead to frustrating periods where where they make stupid decisions, overplay at times, go very basic at times just to see what works and the fans don't see their true skill set and given the nature of today's society lose patience very quickly.

With Rashford he is also a player who grew from being very short to being quite tall in only a few years and is still filling out. I think that when he first stepped up to the first team getting close to the defender was not viable, so he kept distance by using his pace- we're now seeing what he showed glimpses of at the youth levels at the first team level.
