I don't give LVG a lot of credit for Rashford. He only played because Martial got injured in the warm up before a Europa League game and scored two and then repeated the trick in the league a couple of days later. I guess LVG gets credit for not dropping him but who'd drop a kid that scored 4 in 2?
He’d have to take that leap of faith in the first place, another manager could’ve stuck Fellaini up front or Mata as false 9.

Had Rashford have a terrible game and we lost all the blame would be on LvG, so it’s only fair he gets the credit that it worked out.

I think Jose wasted him though and really only used him so he could point to that "I get accused of not playing youth but he played the most games", I got the sense he really didn't coach him whereas Ole is definitely working well with him.

Nah you have to give LVG credit for Rashford, he didn't have use Rashford he could of played someone else as striker even though Martial injured.

Not sure why there has to be an ulterior motive, an unsaid reason for everything Jose does :D
Jose seemed to like Rashford, at least when compared to Martial. And hence he got more games. Could be that simple.

I think with Jose it's a safe bet a lot of the things he did where to protect his own image and satisfy his own ego but you're right it could be that simple. There's certainly things about Rashford I can see people liking better.

The way I see it is prior to Sanchez, Martial and Rashford used to take care of the left side. Which meant that Rashford was at least on bench most of the time.
After Sanchez, Jose had to pick one between Rashford and Martial to be on the bench for sure. Martial seemed to be visibly sulking after losing his spot. And Rashford being Rashford would just shut his mouth and go about the business. Which helped Jose make an easy decision.

It is easier to like Rashford. Great boy. Local. Academy and most importantly has "no agents".

Rashford ALWAYS goes across the face of goal in those situations. Lloris should have known that and positioned himself better.
What in the feck are you on about? Literally every striker should go across the goal from that angle and the keeper should never let it in nearside.

I never understand the ultra scrutiny of these things. Might as well go back to every goal tapped in off a rebound and wince about how the keeper should have known better and palmed it away from the player.

Was thinking about how Jose often abandoned things that seemed to work well. You think back to how we beat City at the Etihad with Pogba advancing well forward and scoring goals not all that dissimilar to Fulham. Or Rashford against Liverpool, running onto long balls and countering exceptionally. Yet he always reverted to type even against smaller teams. Feel like what we see most changed with Rashford is more composure as a main striker. I have to think this is the new staff and Ole especially. And if we look at Jose's background, he's never been well equipped to groom a forward player like that...it almost has to be on their own accord. He just said as much about Salah - that he loved the kid and knew he had a future but it wasn't first nature for Jose to coach and develop him that way.

No, every striker should check at the position of the keeper before they shoot. No keeper should let a goal in at their near post. Learn the difference before you spout off.

First off, I can see my language was a bit over the top. My bad. Anyhow let's get the point -
That's exactly what I'm saying. It's situational and kind of a moot point going back and forth about who's positioning was off of where to shoot.

He got it right against Lloris. He's missed so many though, because he always goes that side without looking, at least in the past. Makes it easy to set up against for the keeper.

Good thing is he is definitely improving already. That Newcastle finish surprised the heck out of me. Usually he smashes them right into the keeper. And even with the Spurs one, you saw it was more about placement than power. Ole and the new staff are definitely imprinting on him and he's learning so quickly. I'm more excited now than after his debut season; he's got the drive, ability and student mentality to become top class for us .

In interview Rooney gave to ESPNFC, they asked him about Rashford. Said when he was with England for the US game, that at the end of the game Rashford was shot. He runs so hard that he needs to be a little more clever at times, just to be able to last through the end. Bit torn about this because one of the things I do love about Rashford is how hard he presses from the front. Still so often times at end of games he is so exhausted - worry about him injuring himself at that point because he even then tries so hard to press not to mention there will be times where we need him

Other thing Rooney told him was just drive at defenders, he is so fast and skillful, they can't live with him and will scare the heck out of them. Can't disagree with that

Man Utd 2:1 Brighton
Hopefully nothing serious in this injury.

Cracking player. Looks like what we thought he will be when he emerged on the scene.

Good game but should have been subbed around the 60th minute. Looked knackered and started being brainless.

He's in fantastic form lately. He's clearly so passionate and has a bit of a nasty streak in him too. If he is on the end of a bad tackle, you can be certain he'll be coming in hard on his next tackle. I love it.

Top drawer finish. Frustrated figure by the end and understandably so given how poor the team was in the second half.

Ref let Montoya get away with clattering Rashers twice today.

Fantastic goal, reminded me of Ronaldo.

Season ending flashed before my eyes when his knee went the wrong way there.

Hopefully the next stage of his development is in how to influence the game when the runs aren't coming off as in the second half.
Its a noble mindset to keep turning and running at player but we needed a base to get our midfield forward and he kept losing it in a crowd of players.

Hundred percent agree on both points. Increasingly I'm seeing flashes of Cristiano Ronaldo from Rashford. Remember the goal he scored against Liverpool last season? That was pure Ronaldo.

His showing his potential the greedy fecking cnut. He's taking that Ronaldo role a bit too literally.

I'm starting to come around to the fact that he might actually realise his potential. He has taken the spotlight away from Martial lately.

This pretty much. That first 60 he was very very impressive almost unplayable and that goal was brilliant but feel around 60 we saw a lot of the old Rashford, head down just running not really spotting people and making silly mistakes just hitting the ball for the sake of it. He was still my MOTM but it was just a shame to see that side make a return.

He hits the ball extremely well. His goal was fantastic, the free kick on the edge of the box had some real power and swerve in it, and that cross to Lingard. Hope Rashford keeps this up.

I like the fact that there's a bit of an edge to him. He put one on Montoya to make up for a challenge from Montoya a few minutes earlier, had we conceded from the resultant set-piece however I don't think I would have liked it as much.

He gets noticably sloppy in the last 10 minutes of games. He really does run himself into the ground. Hopefully it's something he can adapt to.

The referees need to give him protection- it's a joke teams kick him week in week out with no cards being given. But he was dead on his feet last 30 minutes after running his socks off in the middle and then being asked to go LW - that wasn't good sub at all.

Brilliant for the first hour but then got really wasteful and tired visibly... Just starts shooting from stupid positions when he gets tired.

He's a bit too greedy. Should stop shooting from all over the place. That's what Ronaldo did back in his youth and it was just as frustrating.

Greedy fecking cnut, seriously?

What a player he'll turn out to be if he can continue like this. He's more or less got everything. Just needs to polish up on a few things.

His goal was different class.
