I don't like his attitude recently.

Though you could say that for almost everyone at the club regarding their attitude.

Our attacks lost balance when he's sub out.

Martial attacking left and Rashford attacking right.
Even if overall played poor -- the duo still giving them constant threat nonetheless.
That formula/tactic works.. well it's the best one we've got not having Pogba.

And then after he's out, we only attack with Martial left wing leading the attacks -- easier to defend as City just need to put more bodies there.

Does himself no favours when he starts. Basically Danny Welbeck at this point.

The finishing of Danny Welbeck, but Danny is a much better player.

Finally people are opening their eyes about how good (or bad) Rashford actually is. I was slated on this forum any time I criticized him. He's a terrible winger and an even worse striker. He is literally a Championship level player and is showing no signs of having improved since his debut nor is he showing signs of any sort of future potential.

We wonder why we're so bad and yet we have terrible or past it players in every position it the (apart from De Gea, Pogba, Shaw & Martial).

Nowhere near it yesterday. Not all his fault, of course, but his decision making is atrocious. He's not a very smart footballer at all. He may be talented in certain areas, but his footballing brain is non-existent.

Just wasn't involved at all really yesterday, though.

As I said before, I am not his biggest fan and think he is overrated most times but you lot just seem to blame him for everything. The midfield was garbage and all his runs were un-answered.

Yes the midfield was garbage and he would be better with a better midfield but he is not of the quality of a player to lead the line in a top team. His first touch is very poor and his decision making is poor too. Maybe it is partly because of lack of coaching from Jose.

Can't lead the line at the moment. Think we'd look better with Martial central and Rashford on the left.

He's thrice the player for England than he's for United right now.

He was great today, almost always is a much better player for England. Then again, this applies to pretty much every player that is in our squad. All play better for their NTs, and then look clueless when they put the United shirt on.

Cept the goalie.

His technique and ball control is noticeably better for England. It has to be a confidence thing.

I was thinking that as well, it wasn't just the continuous directness he showed in taking on the fullback, it was the technical aspects of his game that looked tighter as well.

I don't think it has much to do with him playing for England or Man Utd, he's just an inconsistent player.

He's generally had better games for England than he has for us since Jose's been here.
It's either a case of Southgate loosening the pressure on Rashford compared to Jose or the other way round.
Either way as a United fan its frustrating to witness a completely different player turning up for us every week compared to their National side.

Its his all-round game that is consistently better for England than us.
He turns into a kick-and-run-merchant whenever he puts on the red of United.

An offensive and ball oriented set up can do wonders to attacking players, who knew... he plays with swagger and confidence for England, while looking scared and clueless for us. The way he took the ball and ran at them again and again with his ball close to his feet was fecking impressive and isnt happening here at United.

Because he plays in a different position.
England plays with narrow front 3 and leaves the two strikers either side of Kane with freedom to roam in to central positions or drop deep and turn to run with the ball.
His touch is more consistent because he's harder to pick up.
When you play on the LW and asked to cross whilst also defensively tracking back with LB
or as lone striker agajnst two central defenders with your back to goal you're easily nullified. It's completely different

A lot better in a team that allows their players to express themselves.

Went on some terrific runs today. Also helped that he was on the left.

Quite true. So why is that.

I believe the answer is that England play very much on the front foot and that allows him to use his natural pace.

I am beginning to see his close control improving which is vital for his development.
Not there yet but improving.

Ok. He is not an Mbappe but he is still a real talent who frightens international defences.

I genuinely expected to hear something about this when I got back & came on here, but apparently not. It was certainly a weird (and unpopular) decision if that wasn’t the case. He was our biggest threat for large parts of the match, and Southgate’s continuing “let Sterling miss a shit load until he plays himself into form” fetish was frustrating as hell at the time...Thankfully didn’t matter in the end.

Very good showing from Marcus, though you still get the distinct impression he runs with his head ‘all the way’ down, with no real semblance of a plan. At one point he ran straight through their defence and to the byline, only to turn around and run almost all the way back again, for sheer lack of any other ideas. He’s a really good crosser too when he has time to think about it. He just needs to start combining the two to meaningful effect.

It’s also kinda nice to see a United player so fully embraced by the England crowd. He reliably gets one of the biggest cheers every time he’s introduced or announced.

I think he either feels the pressure more at United, or Southgate is a bit more relaxed and they don't feel over pressured to perform.

Southgate seems to be getting the best out of all the England players right now, so he's doing something right. I think his laid back style suits modern management very well.

I don't think players like the hard task master's of last generation.

We should handle him the same way Real Madrid developed Alvaro Morata: send him out on loan to a competitive league, and then bring him back if he proves himself. We need to stop being so sentimental about developing academy players.

Then replace his place with Mason Greenwood.

Interesting brief interview with Lingard on the Utd website - one line he's asked if he reads books and says no, but Rashford is trying to get him read the stuff he's reading - psychology stuff apparently.

If true, I like the fact the boy is reading up on things like this - could be anything from creating a stronger mentality, dealing with pressure etc but it's good to hear he's working on that side of things too as well as his football.

He enjoys his football more with the NT, that much is clear.

I think its also because England have a much clearer game plan and have the ball more often. So he has more opportunities to push forward.

Rashford had 8 dribbles against Croatia, 7 were successful. For United in the Premier League this season he's had 14, 3 successful.

Something it going on as he's a much better player for England. Perhaps simply a scenario where Englands style of play is more suited to Rashford than Uniteds current style.
