No it's really, really not. That press conference after WBA was one of the most cringeworthy Manchester United press conference I've seen. Imagine throwing your two best young players under the bus after one bad performance.
Think it was Brighton. His comments were inexplicable.

The only reason I agree with @KM is that every attacker has struggled...every single one. However, it's an argument best left for next season.

So the usual over hyping of England players in friendlies is in full flow it seems.

To be fair some of the stuff he's done tonight so far he has tried during the season. It's not like he's only showcasing what he's got in his locker tonight. One of the main criticisms this season was he had become a bit greedy and trying too hard. The elastico came off tonight so everyone is in awe, but in club games he's tried it and failed. In club games he's ran the ball out of play and missed passes to team mates when the pass was on. Again I don't want to deride him for trying as he should try and try again. Maybe Mourinho doesn't facilitate an environment where he plays with ease and belief but he has been played a lot by Mourinho.

Really impressed with him so far. As I said in the match thread, we must do something to our players for them to look so low on confidence whilst on United duty.
Today he reminded me of the Rash of his first season. Incredible what confidence can do.
Nonsense, don't turn this in to a he plays with more freedom like Glenn Hoddle. Keep it in context, he started the season well for United but was just ok overall. He's had chances for United and hasn't took them overall. He wasn't able to lead the line well in the last few games, he was awful in Cup final when we needed him most. I have a lot of time for Rashford and think he'll be a very good player in years to come but a bit of perspective. People getting carried away because of a first half friendly against Costa Rica. Post turns in to a Jose dig, classic.

The confidence argument falls flat on it's face when you consider that Rashford was played so much that everyone wanted him dropped because he was so bad. When the manager gives you complete backing and you repay him by costing the team points over and over then what can you expect.

There is a far more compelling argument for Martial being 'ruined' by the manager, because Martial was actually contributing when he was taken out of the spotlight.

There is also far more pressure to play for a top club than for England. Danny Welbeck is prolific in the national team compared to his club form. Wenger wasn't ruining him when he couldnt hit a barn door for Arsenal.

Yeah let’s just ignore that Rashford was fecking dreadful in his last few England games and blame it all on Mourinho.

Southgate in?

Christ, he's been two levels above everyone else on the pitch so far.

People forget how good he was at the beginning of last season. He ripped Palace to shreds back in September. The constant changing with Martial probably didnt help his confidence and thats when we saw a different side to Rashford.

Laird and O’Connor have that level of potential - possibly won’t see it now Dalot has arrived, although I also think DD has a similar skillet to Willian, so could become a valid right winger.

His actual technique is very good, but it’s sabotaged by his moronic attempts to do everything at full speed; he needs to learn to decelerate and dribble with the ball closer to his feet - he’s got the perfect role model in that regard training with him every day in Martial.

if he has all tools to become attacking winger but it will be on left because of his preferred foot.

He's a young player and bound to have ups and downs in form. He's probably feeling fresh from a few days off.

Mourinho ruining him
Basically. It's even more ridiculous considering that Mourinho has mentioned time and time again how much he rates him.

Mourinho's tactics are ruining him-along with half the fecking team!

People are so defensive here, criticise Jose for one thing and suddenly posts like so :Southgate is better than him' arrive. Managing young players isn't the only criteria to judge a manager.

The state of some of you lot.

I mean it was a ridiculous comment. People are not annoyed at Rashford because Mourinho has convinced them, they're pissed off because he is a young and inconsistent player and they apparently don't seem to understand that this is just how most 20 year old players are. Criticising Mourinho for the lack of patience by fans is just really silly.

Mourinho ripped both Rashford and Martial to shreds in the Brighton post match interview and people wonder why they play with no confidence at Manchester United. Southgate may not be a great manager, but it is obvious that Rashford enjoys playing under a manager that has faith in him.

So Rashford completely ignores that he has been selected to play in so many matches by Jose and only goes by what the manager says in one match press conference. We don't even know what Jose tells Rashford in private. Nothing is obvious

I like Southgate - half the battle is having your players enjoying what they are doing

Using a player's good goal as a beating stick to criticize manager. Hilarious stuff again on caf.
Jose may or may not be a good manager, but Rashford's goal has nothing to do with it.

My goodness stop getting your knickers in a twist:lol:
I wasn't even thinking of Jose when I posted that. I don't think about depressing people unless I have to.

I'm just happy to see Rash looking like his old self. What's wrong with making a general comment about the lad's performance without dragging up all that's happened last season?

Jose played him consistently for months despite half the forum wanting him hooked but you think a little bit of criticism in a poor game has ruined him.

I'm pretty sure our players aren't half as precious as some of you think. There's this thkng called form and sometimes players play badly shocking i know.

He had a decent season with plenty of minutes. It's amusing how many of these arguments were made for Welbeck too

I don't see why we need to read into this. He's had good and bad games for Mourinho, Van Gaal and for England. I could just as easily suggest that having a decent break from football is why he's come alive tonight. Just be happy that he's played well and scored a quality goal, you really can't take much from that without making a lot of assumptions and a lot of guesses.

Well done for turning the thread into a shitfest again. You can never enjoy anything on here.

What is all this nonsense about how rubbish he's been for United? You fecking thick? He's a twenty year old striker who has been hot and cold but when he's been hot he's been scorching. Scored a brace against the scousers ffs. Anyone who thinks Rashford is either a) being held back or b) not good enough needs to stop watching football or think before they post.

The state of some of you lot.

You are messing with a wrong crowd. Best part of all, if/when JM wins PL title with us, they arent even in position to come out say how they were supporting him 100% not like some, because they are not showing a support to United manager, they act like a freaking cult of followers, worshiping him.

Next there will be a crowd saying Jose has held back Jesse after he scores a screamer in the opening match

It will be interesting what they come out with when we are still playing like shit next season. I'm sure it will be the fault of the £200 million worth of players we buy this summer rather than Mourinho.

Rashford is a top young player and I just hope to god that his development is not stunted by the negative nature of the manager.

The Rashford I know. Absolutely fantastic tonight. Ran the show in that second striker role, which is where I feel he's at his best.

It's funny how not acting like a prick in every thread means that you have crawled out of someone's rectum or are in a cult.
It's much better to hope that United fail and you "as fans" were right in your constant ramblings.

Rashford was good today. Thought second half wasn't anything special but still okay. He has had similar games in United shirt. Only people who get paid for clicks should start comparing managers and asking for loans, not United fans who have seen all of his highs and lows.

Mourinho rates Rashford yes but like with our other attacking players isnt getting the best out of him.

Its plain to see and even more contrasting when you catch bit of Citys and Liverpools football for example.

I hope he has a great tournament.

I know the game was at Elland Road, but I missed the start so I didn't see/hear the boos for him until Southgate mentioned it just now. The fact that he started off with boos only to end the game getting cheered is a testament to his talent.

Hopefully the change in the back room staff will have a positive impact on the way we line up offensively. We can but hope :(

Came in here to appreciate a special young talent that we have under our disposal, only to swim through a ton of shitfest blasting either the manager or the player himself.

Yes Jose has shown faith in him, yes he was quite underwhelming for us and also yes he performed greatly this game. Can it possibly be, just possibly, that he is a very young player and doing what young players do, being inconsistent?

Why does every player performance have to be micro-analysed to such an extent where 10 yards of positioning or the odd performance becomes such concrete evidence of something deeper than the simple and obvious?

It happened with Pogba... He played fantastically well as part of a midfield three and suddenly that was it. It was so obvious and he was going to be consistently phenomenal if the manager only played to his strengtha. Then he was shite for a couple of months and suddenly the problem became Matic or A.N.Others fault. Then he played really well for a few games in a midfield two as he did the seaaon before and that was ignored. The same with Martial and him being in and out of the team.

They're young players. They're therefore inconsistent. It isn't more complicated than that. Rashford has phenomenal games like tonight centrally and Liverpool from the left. He has awful games like Brighton. Pogba likewise whether he's 10 yards further to the left or further forward in a two or a three... Has great games and awful ones. Martial is the same.

There's a reason why managers will gravitate towards consistency and maturity. It's because you generally tend to know what you're going to get.

They're all special players, they will all mature and hopefully form a key part of our team going forward. But at the moment the reason we aren't a top team is because these special players aren't yet ready to deliver consistently.

Indeed. But what a fabulous player he is.

Think it was Brighton. His comments were inexplicable.
They were a disgrace. Like he was itching to prove a point in not playing them and for them to underperform. Funny how Rom didn't score for months but got a pass.

Expect some Caftards to place bets on Rash being top scorer and England to win.

quite.

Hardly a rule and they can't be kids forever. Many kick on after 140 top level matches (club and country)

would love to know your criterion for "fabulous". Had a great game though.

When dynamic athletes come on the scene, they often have immediate success, because they are an unknown quantity. After awhile however, game film is available and teams are able to break down the strengths and weaknesses. They are not so unknown, and teams are better able to prepare for their athletic dynamism.
