Amazing that he's grown so much so fast. Btw, he's listed as 5'11/180 cm, but am I the only one who thinks he actually looks quite a bit taller? They don't update those measurements too often, and he could've easily grown a fair bit since the last time it was updated.

Indeed just by comparing him to CBJ then and now you can see how rapidly he's grown. I noticed that not only he gained more height but also bulked up a bit which is good to see. And since he's only 18 he will most probably become taller within the next few years.

Rashford is very skilful and a good dribbler, it is actually one of his strengths. Yes he's fast, but he has trickery at speed and a skilful repertoire of flicks etc, he's not just speed.

One other thing that goes under the radar is his decision making. Especially at the age , its alarmingly good. He is so calm and cool and just knows what to do. Amazing talent. If he were french playing for Lyon he would be commanding some ridiculous transfer fees already.

Indeed. He's only 18 - he's a genuine 'wonderkid'.

Not really. Tactical intelligence which also include decision making, vision... is heavily required under someone as obsessed with philosophy as LVG. For Rashford's his decision making has been always rated since those first debut games.

What is currently underrated is his range of passing. I have seen him have good long passes in his U18 games sometimes, and confirmed with his cross field for Lingard yesterday game toward the end (between 91st-92nd minute). If he keeps improve this aspect and can consistently produce, Rooney's place will be threatened. Rashford may not have the play making game as Mourinho's #10, but with his great potential in linking up and good range of pass thus his pace, Mourinho may be forced to use him as second striker. Zlatan is capable of chipping in the play making game. It's a more (deadly) balanced striking duo between Zlatan and Rashford that way than Rooney & Zlatan which is kinda slow.

Here I meant Rashford to improve the consistency of his long passing/ passing range, but keep his same game while forcing Mourinho's hand. I am against altering his game to fit Mourinho's #10 profile, the way Rooney did emulate Scholes and lost his natural game.

Genuinely get too excited when I think about the career this kid could have ahead of him at Utd!
Long may it last.

I love seeing him showboat and pull a few skill moves off. I didn't think he had it in his locker

I think some of the criticism about Rashford's dribbling ability when the ball/opposition is stationary is justified but it's such a small set of examples that we can't really say for sure.

Although it's crazy to think that when the ball is at his feet, we expect to see him dribble past someone or do something to break defensive lines when he has other things in his locker like his link up play. The biggest thing he might need to improve on is when he doesn't see the ball; how to get into the right positions in the box, movement off the ball etc.

We've got a talent on our hands

Honestly, the level he's displaying right now, he can be as good as he wants to be. Amazing talent. He'd be all the better if we had one more player who had the threat of beating defenders on the dribble, preferably left footed for the sake of balance.

I wonder how he compares to Jesus and Iheanacho, too. Definitely an exciting next couple of years coming up *touch wood*

Imagine a front four of:

Zlatan
Martial Rashford Mkhitaryan

Rashford would be the second striker and his passing ability is very underrated. His link up play is also the best in the team and he can move easily in tight areas. I wouldn't mind seeing him play there.

Rashford and Zlatan would both prefer to have their positions exchanged there.

I agree with Marcus as the #10. I think that when the ball is passed through the lines to our #10, Marcus will do a better job at holding the ball and turning than Zlatan would as he has a heavy touch at times and, despite his build, I've seen players pinch the ball off of him quite easily at PSG. Everytime Rashford receives a ball with an opposition player on his behind he takes the ball in his stride with his exceptional techique and manages to hold said player off, too; allowing him to turn and run at defences or play incisive balls which he's shown he's capable of. Plus, as Zlatan likes to drop deep anyway, Marcus could move upfront as Zlatan drops causing all kinds of problems for opposition teams.

I will expect more good things from him this coming season. Exceptional talent and the way he handles himself so well with all the attention he has in the last 4 or so months.

I am slightly against some of the arguments made here about not making him into a winger and playing him up front. I think the guy is in his learning phase and can play in couple of positions before he can be certain of a position. Time is on his hands and he, along with Martial, can be used as wingers to support Ibra and during the game if Ibra is subbed, one of them can slot into that striker role. Playing on the wing will also help his all round game and will give him more ball time, something him and Martial thrive on.

Give him a year or two and I can see him lead our line. Let's not put too much pressure on him. He will have his burned out days, days he will look shit, but this truly is his learning phase and I think he will come good in a couple of years time.

Also, he will be Mourinho type of striker who loves playing on the counter when we are on the defensive mode. Mourinho will put 10 behind the ball and ask him to run around with the ball at the other end :lol:

Why did you want his long range passing to improve when he is damn good striker . Let him lead the line for god's sake , enough of converting strikers to number ,inside forwadrs bla bla . The guy is born to score goals .

Incredibly advanced link play and one touch ability for a striker his age. Feels like he could be a less aerial, faster Lewandowski style complete striker. Shevchenko's stylistic idiosyncracies have faded from my mind by now. Can someone provide some hyperbolic comparisons? I'm feeling it.

It really is. He was tiny. Definitely the most undersized player I've ever seen in our academy, and we've had our fair share of shrimps over the years. He mostly played an age group up, which didn't help, but it always looked like one of the lads had brought their little brother along.

Here's a shot from an England U16 game:

This photo

He looks seven.

The lads still growing nothing to worry about. Compare Martial from the beggining of last season to now and you can see he has bulked up and has more of a frame about him. Plus being small has its advantages he is hard to knock off the ball as he doesnt go down as easy he seems to absorb impacts and keep running. Always funny to see a bemused defender go all in only to have Rashford dance away kicking up grass in their faces.

Hope he keeps his head down and keeps working under Jose and Ibra I dont want to hear about his personal branding etc for a few more years.

I am sorry dude, but you sound like someone who is stuck with traditional forward who just camp out with the opponent CBs. Rashford is in the mould of modern forward whose main job is leading the front line, but also chip in a lot of link up play... Look at Kane, Zlatan, Aguero, Benzema, Suarez... they operate all over the field and still provide good goal figure. Some of them can do cross field/ switch play/ long pass just fine when the circumstance requires.

Rashford has potential to become some cracking forward, yet he is not established and still have room for improvement. Telling an 18 years old he is damn good striker and should stop filling out other aspect of his game (which he also has in his locker) is now well advice? Good riddance. No wonder England has fair few of young talent but very few reach top level...

Too many jokes, too little time.

But tbf I think Mkhitaryan and Martial count as players who can dribble past people surely.

He already link well with his teammates dude . Has got a damn good awareness about people surrounding him and can pick a pass too . Did Lewa or Benzema or Augero makes long passes dude ?

What rashford needs is to improve his dribbling and picking the pass. His awareness & holding up is already top notch and will only improve . He is not a second striker !! Its pretty clear that the guy is at his best at leading the line . You play the player in his best position and let him develop there .

They do. Why don't you watch those players for yourself?

Yes he is linking well with his teammates. Is there better forwards out there at linking up play? Yes, so Rashford has goal to conquer.

Holding up play: Top notch? What about Leicester game then where he couldn't compete physically and let Fellaini did the hold up play job (just one obvious example).

Have you watched him in youth level at all? Not second striker ever, really? So if Zlatan proves to be too good to be displaced, then Rashford just sit on the bench all year just because he only needs to play in his best position? Good riddance.

Let me remind you there is this modern forward concept where forward can play across the front line on high level in his less preferred role.

He does some excellent things, some poor things, just needs playing time really. Exciting to see him handle the steps up with such ease though.

Well, not really. It's called puberty, most people go through it.

Ha, good one!
Yeah, they definitely can, it was more of a long-term aim tbh. Once Mkhitaryan slows down, or maybe is moved inside to the 10, we'll have no one for the right-sided forward position. It's why I wanted us to go for Sane, who would have filled it perfectly.

It's a natural thing, you put on more mass naturally as you get older. He's only 19 and has a bit of growing to do and at that age it happens fast.

That's fine. I think he already looks very strong and if he naturally gets even stronger whist retaining his agility, pace and energy then great.

I was just confused by the suggestion someone made that he needs to 'bulk up'. That seems to imply not natural growth but focused gym work to gain a lot of mass which seems unnecessary to me.

For one, hes only 27. Giggs was still sitting Micah Richards on his arse at 37. But perhaps as importantly, he allows us time to find or develop other wingers, it's not like we're never allowed to buy in or promote new wingers in the next 5 years. If he wins us a league or two it'll only make us more attractive to young talent.

Strange complaint for me.

I agree he shouldn't bulk up. He has that tall Kanu-esque physique, adding too much muscle will as you say have an impact on his his agility, pace and energy. See Memphis for more info

Just let him play, i have full confidence in his skills and talent. His direct approach and flair excites me. He seems unaffraid.

The thought of him and Martial running at defenses for the next 10 years makes me smile.

He seem to play with one agenda , "play simple" and its working.

This is what I love about this kid's game. In a time where it seems like anyone who plays in the front four are thought to do things as complicated as possible - "for the Vine" or to add to their mixtape on Youtube - it's refreshing to see someone keep it to the fundamentals. Which isn't to say Marcus doesn't have his share of trickery, the running backheel pass in the FA Cup Final comes to mind, but he rarely does something unless it's necessary to get in a scoring position. No wasted motions.

Really? you must not have ever seen him play in that case.
I rarely ever watch the U21's to be honest. I'm familiar with some of the lads like Pereira and Mensah but that's mainly cause of the Highlights I've watched on YouTube.

When I first saw Rashford, I expected another "Danny Welbeck" type player. Pacey but not much skill or anything like that. Completely proved me wrong though.
