From Championship caliber to Messi thanks to those two goals

All jokes aside, can we get a bright youngster for the LW as well so we can recreate MSN with him, Rashers and Martial?
Dembele from Dortmund

From left to right

Martial Rashford Dembele

Me think that the fact he's been forced to play on the wings has seriously affected his finishing skills. Last year he would bagged 90% of them chances he had this season.

That being said really happy to see him finally getting minutes as CF.

Long may it continue.

His finishing was poor in the first half but his movement was very good, glad to see him keep going strong in the second half and get the goals he's been needing.

Really don't understand the logic how can playing on the wing affect your finishing skills?

Well, he missed the chance. There's no changing that. However, he forgot the first half and moved on. Worked hard and scored 2 while providing pace & dynamism in behind the lines. Something Zlatan is not good at.
Agreed there is no changing it, but i think it showed his decision making in front of goal or his instinct in front of goal is great.
Wasn't surprised to see him score

Good to see the chances missed/saved in first half didn't get to him, still bright, confident and alert throughout.
Loved the toe-ender from 6 inches for his second-would have loved it if he had got down and headed it in but no doubt some killjoys would have accused him of not showing respect!

It doesn't, nobody has perfect finishing and Rashford's last season was always unsustainable when everything came off for him. This season he just went on a drought but overall is generally finishing pretty normally. Him playing on the wing gives him less chances to score of course, which could impact his confidence which can have an effect on his finishing, but that's just his mentality more then anything.

A good performance today. He'll be upset not to have scored in the first half. On another day, he could have easily had a first half brace. Credit to him for not hanging his head. He really worked hard throughout the match. He was full of running, and got into intelligent areas on the pitch. His movement was very good. He deserved the two goals. I think this game will do his confidence a lot of good. What a great young talent he is!

Good observation and probably right. Im guessing Jose uses him wide in training, so he's not getting that amount of practice he needs?

Thought he was sensational today.

Some sloppy finishing in the first half but he made up for that by getting a couple. Really exciting having him and Martial both looking good again.

This thread before he scored

His finishing aside, he was a constant threat and problem for them. So happy he got his goals. The one on the line made me laugh though, just needs to touch it, but instead blazes it into the net

He played well but again his finishing needs to get better. Overall play is excellent but he's a striker and if he wants to stay here long term he cant be taking 2 or 3 chances to score. Decision making is i think what is costing him, which can be worked on. I know he's young but Ibrahimovic has another year at most and this is his opportunity to show we don't need to bring someone else in.

Ibrahimovic has missed sitters too this season. The guy is 19 i wouldn't be worried

Great movement, great pace, decent/good finishing and the frame and height to be a physically dominant striker when he fills out.

Future is bright with this one.

Been saying it for ages but he should be getting minutes as a striker when we're ahead and can counter. He's lethal when there is space in behind.

He's just a kid though, if he steps up and shows he can be the replacement for Ibrahimovic then that's fantastic. I wouldn't write him off though if he still isn't ready in a couple of years to be the main man. He could be a squad player until his mid 20's before he really hits peak form. He has huge potential, but a long way to go and we should be patient with him.

Can't understand the people saying he was poor. He was constantly running in behind and panicking the defence and getting into dangerous positions. Just the fact that he was able to create those openings with his running and pace was impressive. No he didn't finish every chance, and he has aspects he has to work on but I thought it was fantastic and a constant nuisance for the Reading defence.

Could be that's the case. Even if he's using him as CF in practice it holds little when he's always playing winger in real.

Today we played with pretty much a 442 and it really helped Marcus, he and Rooney stretched wide and had their defence 1v1 which made them both play better.

Rashford is so good at getting in the channels and then using his pace/trickery to take on the defender, only the best can stop him right now.

I agree with others that he should be replacing Ibra at the 75/80 mark especially if we are winning, his pace to a tired defence would automatically make them leave 2 defenders behind.

Agree with you, but I can perhaps see why it's not being done in the sense it could look like Ibra is tiring out at the end if we keep taking him off at 75 minutes and that's not a vibe you want to give out.

He was a long time without a goal so obviously confidence wouldn't have been that high today, hence the poor finishing in the first half. Was always a case of gettin a goal, any goal, to get the monkey off his back and it's no coincidence a second would follow albeit a huge helping hand from the keeper. He'll likely go on a scoring run now after that if he continues to get regular action and with the team now playing well and consistently making chances. I've got no issue with his finishing, he's shown before what he's capable of

Was his finishing even bad today really? The only one I really remember him missing is when he went round the keeper, and that was a hard finish to pull off. The angle was tight and he had to hit it hard to make sure it wouldn't be blocked. Other than that I can't think of any he didn't score that he clearly should have

Showed that he is a striker/cb. Nothing really we didn't know.

All these playing on wings will help his game is all good and fine. But, his instincts, runs etc suit striker role more than anywhere else.

His movement across the front line must be a nightmare for defenders, it was for the Reading ones today anyway, the only way they could stop him was by pulling his shirt which they did for most of the match and even doing that didn't work for them most of the time.

It was good to see him laugh it off when he rounded the keeper and hit the side netting. It's important that he has that confidence and doesn't let it get to him.

Even without his goals he had a very good game, but with them, great! I can't believe how many people are so quick to jump on his back the minute something doesn't go right for him.

Oh, and others have already said, his crossing is brilliant. So, even though he's at his best up front, if played wide, it's a brilliant asset to have.

Ronaldo was the most deadly finisher iv seen at united and he always played wide so that shouldn't matter.

Marcus reminds me of Ronnie at times and i think he will play most of his career in that position. He is coming on well improves every time and will be a fantastic player for us

Delighted he got a brace, could have got a bagful on another day.
Coming into his own again, great to see.

Reading has proven to be a great draw for us. Rashford needed a full game to stretch his legs and be given a shot up front. What he lacks in finesse he makes up in speed and quite frankly the way he times his runs through the gap & behind defenders. I think he'll get another chance up front against Hull & Ibra will get a little more well-earned rest. The finishing will come as he grows in confidence and experience and in training with the likes of Ibra & Rooney. Mourino may well splash for another big-name striker next summer but in the meantime methinks Rashford will get plenty of chance this season to make his mark which might cause Jose to spend money elsewhere.
