What a talent this lad is! When he came on, we suddenly stepped up a bit in terms of tempo. He significantly boosted our efforts to score a goal. Get in Marcus!!! :D

Id actually use him as as sub for the Derby. I want tosee Zlatan vs Stones (at least for 65 minutes).
I do like how he can change a game, isnt fussed and looks genuinely happy to be playing and scoring for us.

Obviously deserves a start and long-term he'll hopefully be a main striker, but for now I wonder if it might actually be good for him to play a Solskjaer sort of role; coming off the bench to pop up with incisive and important goals. He's full of energy so can have a great impact as a sub and has a habit of getting vital goals.

Hope he doesn't start in the derby - can definitely do a good job off the bench.

I'm clearly in the minority here but I don't think he's good enough to be starting for us yet. Obviously we want Ibrahimovic up top and I'm not at all convinced by his dribbling abilities, I'd much rather have Martial on the wing at present. That said, he has a very high ceiling and is only improving, so I hope to see him in the side for years to come :)

Zlatan will be used as an outball to counter the pressing game from City. Especially after having two weeks off

He just plays very well whenever he steps on the pitch. Makes things happen and is a brilliant finisher already. Makes Sam's statement looks a bit daft to be honest as he's probably England's best goal threat right now...

That is why he should be starting! None of this "he's too young to already be a starter" - he's good enough so he's old enough. He compliments our other attackers perfectly.

When Zlatan or Rooney drop deep to dictate play he can run in behind and be our focal point, when Mata or Mkhi cut inside to play killer balls he can drift out to the wings and cause a big threat, all whilst still playing at a high level no matter where abouts on the pitch. He's even fine in the #10 role with his excellent technique. Our attack without him is just too predictable in my opinion; especially as Martial isn't in his best form at the mo. If we play him, no matter where, we'll reap the benefits.

He has to start against City now.

Dropped from the england squad because he has not played the first 2 games of this season

What he did in those 20 minutes is more than kane has done so far this season. The same 10 minutes impact he had againts iceland, more than what kane did the whole competition. I am not trying to compare kane with rashford as i am also a fan of kane, had not we signed zlatan i thought we should go for kane.

But the fact is that rashfod is arguably the most explosive and all around forward england had since a young wayne rooney back in 2002. Everything about him seems positive. He can dribble, he got pace, he can play those simple flicks and one-twos, he is clever enough to get into good positions inside the penalty box, and he is a decent finisher too.

Anyway to get 90 minutes for the england u21s sounds better than 5 minutes for the seniors at this moment, just to get him into full match fitness.

He just "gets it", unlike so many youth players who come in and struggle to play the way they did at reserve level. Since literally the first minute of first team football he's looked like he understands how to play at the top level, which is often the biggest hurdle for young players. He needs to be playing regularly for us, he's that good

He never stops sprinting. There is no jogging in this guy. The only way he runs is fast.

What he showed for me was match intelligence, Martial kept drifting inside but the kid comes on and realises we need width. He created havoc in his 20 minutes by attacking from the wing. His dribbling is underrated imo it's not Martial level yet .There are only two or three strikers who are better than him on the ball in the league Zlatan, Aguero and maybe Sturridge....Costa gets me chuckling whenever he tries to take on opponents

I would love to see him start next match but I don't think Jose would start him immediately,he would go with more sub appearance for Rashford with minutes in game going up.He's only eighteen but we have already lot of maturity from him, whenever he plays I can see goals in him,his movements are impeccable.Fantastic player.

I don't know why but when I see him dribble it always feels like he's about to lose the ball and he's nothing but pace.

But then he beats his man and gets goals so I have to be seeing something wrong. Can someone emphasize what is it that makes him so good? I am obviously not arguing that he isn't good -- the results show that. I just wanna know what his strengths are (other than blistering pace)

When you're very fast and have very quick feet, that's the best way to dribble if you want to cleanly beat opponents. You keep the ball right at the edge of your control and it tempts tackles in, committing the defender and allowing you to use your quicker feet to negotiate it around them and leave them on the ground. Rashford's success rate with dribbles proves that he knows what he's doing there.

You sort of described it there - he's in control of the ball, not as close as say Messi or Hazard, but more like Robben, he wants to tempt you in to try and take the ball from him by leaving that extra space between him and the ball, once you go in he dribbles past you.

Well he's a centre forward but here we are talking about his ability to beat players. That to me is a massive asset.

The goal was just about the least impressive part of his display. What a cameo.

Crazy when you think about it. That was no easy tap in too, two defenders and the goalie were no less than a meter around him. Has anyone found his complete highlights yet?

His control was a lot tighter today though, and even we last saw him for England. It's not glued to his feet like Martial but I think his dribbling and close control has gone up a notch over the summer.

Maybe it's because he's bigger and stronger, so he can keep the defenders at a distance now.

With every passing game it looks more and more that he's the real deal.

We've got a gem on our hands here, his potential is frightening.

There's a maturity of thinking to his play, besides his obvious talent; surely one of the reasons why Zlatan so obviously admires him.

I'm fine with his contribution and impact coming from the bench, especially in matches like yesterday when we need a goal, the opposition is tiring and the game is more stretched.

His pace and finishing skills are very suited to such circumstances. For now, I suspect he would be less effective starting games, but that will also quickly change as he develops his game.

This kid makes me giddy!

Not in an Operation Yew tree way I might add.... But he's something seriously special!

Mourinho's brought him on twice now when needing a result. Shows he has a lot of confidence in him unlike the guys at Chelsea like Loftus Cheek (who I kind of suspect is overrated)

All the doom mongering over rashford and Mourinho this summer looks a bit silly now

Great stuff from him against Hull. The main thing for him is to keep this confidence and then Jose will give him chances. And i would not be too surprise if he does start against City in the place of Martial, who lost it a bit during summer and can't get it back.

Not many young players around who just decide they are going to be the one to win the game like him. He doesn't look for the pass he looks for the quickest route to goal every single time. If he has a consistent season at the level of this cameo he would win young player of the year quite comfortably.

Anyone else feel he has improved his close control a lot? I remember him losing the ball a ton when he was being introduced, now he loses it rarely and I think that's because of his adaption to the league.

He also looks a lot more dangerous now as at times he used to go missing - West Brom. Now whenever he's on the ball he can easily make things happen and has clearly gone up a level.

The evolution of him is there to see - now he's so direct, but when he retains the ball he looks for the one twos and his link up play is top class.

I have a feeling Jose will start him against City. Jose knows Pep very well and has always set up his teams to counter-attack Pep. With Mata, Rooney and Ibra - we won't have the pace needed to do that. Its very possible that we will see a totally different attack in the next game with Rash, Martial, Mhiki and Zlatan. If Rooney plays, it will probably be on the right instead of Martial.
