His Sky post match interview alongside Herrera was great.

He said two things that, er, says a lot really. 1) The interviewer asked whether it was a case of stepping up (Ibra on bench) and I noticed a bit of annoyance when he said, it wasn't about stepping up and that every one in the team is there to play. 2) He noted the lack of goals at home and how as a team they have to do more but I think he really meant, 'I want to score goals and I proved that today as the central striker'.

I think he thrives on the pressure and attention (of being up front and as the man leading the line) so when he/the team has to step aside, literally on the pitch (in Rashford's case, onto the wings) for Ibra's charisma and style of play, it creates a deflecting attitude.

Mourinho should try playing Rashford centrally with Ibra behind him. Load the flanks with pace in Miki and Martial (unfortunately for him, this will be the only way he's getting in the team it seems)/Lingard/Young and we should be deadly.

That goal against Sunderland has done him a world off good. His confidence came back and thought he was great against Anderlecht (we lost potency up front when he came off)
Today he was brilliant and deserved a goal. Even though he fluffed his first shot, when he went one on one, I was confident he would score that one.

But more impressive for his strength. He wasnt being bullied, and in fact, he was doing it himself. Was great to see.

The kid is real, and we have people here calling him just another Welbeck. He's just 19 it's unreal. His dribbling has improved leaps and bounds.
Let's hope Martial gets his head up after this and starts playing some serious football. It's great that we have competition for attackers now at the club. Heck even Ibra has a competition as a striker now.

Was he fouled when Young put in a low cross to him? It looked like he was fouled to me.

I thought so too. Glad Im not the only one, otherwise you would imagine he would have scored.

Tremendous performance beyond his years. Though he was fantastic against Anderlecht as well so hopefully the Sunderland goal has given him his confidence back. Ran a very good Chelsea defence ragged all day that on another day will give attackers no joy whatsoever and totally nullifed Luizs ability to bring the ball out from the back.

Fantastic goal and understated celebration. He came across quite well again in the post match interview.

yeah, he's got it. Still needs 2 more years as a support striker but he really could make it.
I disagree. He's done it against City, Arsenal, Chelsea. No striker is doing better than this currently in the league so I don't get how he needs 2 years as support striker.

I wish he'd have just played there all year. I love the kid.

This is very it gets silly again. He was immense yesterday. But much was due to the fact he was able to get in behind Chelsea's defense. They couldn't handle his pace. Against deep sitting teams he has always struggled so far when played up front.

He has an X-factor. It's not something you can coach or replicate or legislate for.

Herrera executed Mourinho's instructions brilliantly, but Rashford was unplayable in a way that no opposing manager could guard against. My MOTM.

I hope Mourinho picks him up front more often.

He hasn't had a run in his favoured position. He's an absolute menace and he makes others around him play better. I love the guy.

Would love to see him and Zlatan up top together in a similar formation, or even with Martial up there.

Might be the go to formation in the big away games we've got coming up.

I actually don't think he needs to bulk up at all. With age his body will fill out on it's own. Think him pumping weights and getting more muscle would be counter productive at this stage of his career.

Agreed. And why does he need it? Look at how he outmuscled Moses and pushed his way past Luiz. In combination with his pace and balance, he's already as strong as he needs to be.

Yep, exactly. He literally went through Matić and Cahil yesterday in few occasions.

It was a very near complete performance from him. He just ran and ran. He has one single gear and that's top gear. Sometimes I actually wish he varied his pace a little bit, à la Chicharito, but that will come with time.

It is quite noticeable that he is getting physically stronger. He was holding defenders in the prime of their career with ease. It can't hurt to have a mentor like Zlatan in this aspect.

Anyone know how tall he is? He looks like he's 6ft 1-ish but wikipedia has him at 5ft11.

He grew over the summer - I reckon he's about 6'1/6'2. Here's him beside Henry earlier this season:

I'd like to see that as well. It could be a really good partnership as it has everything you'd need in a striker duo. Rashford offers pace movement and dribbling ability and Ibra has the hold up play, touch, vision etc. I think those two could be deadly together.

In that post match interview he's standing next to Herrera and he's around 3-4 cm taller by my estimate.

He could be around 187-188 cm now.

There seems to be an obsession with height, weight and muscle.
These things matter little when it comes to being a striker.
Best attacker in the World - Messi. 5' 7" and a light-weight. Or how about Neymar - match stick thin.
Some say that Aguero has been the best striker in this country for the last 5 - odd years. He is no giant.
What I am trying to say is that a player should maintain his natural size/shape and should not force the addition extra weight/muscle.
Lets use yesterday as an example. The 2 best players on the pitch were Rashford and Herrera - neither of which are WWE wrestling candidates.
The POTY this season is likely to be Kante. A short, light player.
Last year's POTY - Vardy is a waif. Match stick thin.
When Memphis arrived at MUFC, he was quite light. He added muscle and turned to crap.
And lets not forget L.Shaw who is large/heavy and struggles to make our first team.

IMO, the ideal physique for a footballer in 2017 is matchstick thin. Anything bigger just does not work and Rashford is currently at his ideal weight/height.

Yeah that's right, you should sell Ibra and Valencia then because they're bound to be shite soon enough.

I think Ronaldo would disagree with that.

First off, Ronaldo.

Secondly, none of those player's are 'matchstick thin'. They've all got at least some muscle on them. Look at Kante for example. Actually look at his build and considering his height he is quite built and his legs are highly muscular. Ditto Aguero, his legs are bloody massive.

Aguero and Neymar are very athletic and pack quite a big of muscle. They may not look big to you because they have low fat content.

Everyones different. One of the good things about his last performance, was that he wasn't easily knocked off the ball and he was stronger in challenges then in the past. So when a player reaches that comfort level, that is probably ideal for them but we're talking about a 19 year old. He probably will get stronger and maybe taller

I wouldn't say Neymar is any more built than Rashford though, they're both slim and athletic.

WHY RASHFORD TOOK SET-PIECES V CHELSEA

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has revealed why Marcus Rashford was given the responsibility of taking set-pieces during last weekend's win over Chelsea.

The youngster played an important role in the 2-0 victory, leading the line in the absence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and setting the tone with a goal after just eight minutes at Old Trafford.

It was Rashford's deep free-kick that eventually led to United's second goal - scored by Ander Herrera early in the second half - and Mourinho explained his choice after the game.

"Marcus is trustable," the manager told MUTV. "Even for the second goal, his free-kick was really high, impossible to score from a header because it was to what we call the third post - not the first or second post. But he's always tense, he's always fast, and you can always trust that [he will make] strong contact with the ball.

"The ball always goes with speed with him. With some other guys, the ball goes in the right spot but slower. Even if you win the duel in the air, it can be really difficult to score, so in this moment Marcus is one of the boys we trust. Because he's so young, he's able to keep developing that day after day; he's always with one of the assistant coaches trying to make it even better."

If all goes well, he's going to become a huge player for us in the future.

Anticipation, co-ordination, balance, and flexibility are just as important as raw muscular strength for footballers in order to have power on the ball.

Few weeks ago we were complaining he was rubbish and useless, now he is one of the best strikers in the BPL. Obviously he has a lot of to learn, but I think he is in the right team, with the right manager and surrounded by great players who can contribute to develop himself into one of the most dangerous strikers in the world.

His pace, speed & instinct are marvelous. Hope the lad will stay for a long time with us and we can keep enjoy seeing him at his best.

That's because he's still learning how to thrive in games where there's no space in behind the defence to run into. When everything happens in front of the opponents defensive line, the game is totally different to what we had vs Chelsea. He excels in the later because of his movement, hustle and pace. He's still learning how to be at his best in the former and he'll need to learn soon because that's what we face most games.

He looks equal in height to Herrera in that interview, but I can't tell for certain with Herrera leaning in. I reckon he's 6 feet or just past it.

It's incredible just how much Mourinho trusts him given his age and Mourinho's record before. We have had our share players of talents who hasn't had the right attitude EG Januzaj, Wilson, Ravel but to see someone like Rashford having the right attitude is such a relief.
