It came through injury but with Kane out Spurs didn't really miss him at all. It just meant the other players had to step up and they did take that responsibility. I do feel if Rashford and Martial were given more starts together with one of them the striker we may have picked up more wins because they have dynamism and skill to bounce off each other.

True...but in Alli and Son Spurs have two consistent goalscorers, and even Eriksen pops up with a fair few. I'd like to think that with more consistent time up front Rashford and Martial would score a lot more often, but there's an argument Spurs have more dependable figures to fall back on besides Kane. But, of course, if Rashford/Martial continue on their intended trajectories then they'll be scoring a lot more often before long.

Absolutely fantastic. Complete 9 performance. Held it up, ran channels, pressed the ball, scored - everything.

Really hope Jose now trusts him more to lead the line, meaning he can rest Ibra when needed.

Starting to see more of the overall package from him. I still don't believe he's good enough to lead the line week in, week out at this stage of his career for a title contending team, but he has the talent to get to that level over the next couple of years. He does deserve more starts as the lead striker than he's had this year though.

The goal last week has clearly taken the weight off his shoulders.

Was brilliant today and took his goal really clinically. Think he'll go on a goalscoring run now

Please don't drop him and play him wide next game while he just built his confidence. Keep the confidence because he and us need it.

Excellent performance, a glimpse into the next 5-10 years here I suspect.

True, but overall he's got a very good goals record and the reason we're lacking for goals besides his missed chances is because no one else in the team has consistently scored.

It is an interesting situation though - Rashford's clearly far, far better up front than out wide, and by putting him up top he'd score a lot more goals than what he's currently getting. Problem is, unless we can accommodate Rashford and Zlatan, by putting him there instead of Zlatan we're sacrificing the guy who's by far our best goalscorer. Which is risky...and of course means we're hoping that by sacrificing that one very good goalscorer, we'll play better as a team and score more goals in general.

But, of course, even a very good title winning team wouldn't produce performances like today's every week - naturally there's always the risk that instead of performing well consistently, we'd just be without an excellent goalscorer. But we'd hope that within a season or two, Rashford will be starting to hit fairly high figures every year.
Play them both!!!!!!!

Wonderful today. Hope I never have to read drivel on here about him being overhyped ever again. Lad is the real deal, a wonderful prospect, he's going to be an excellent player in a few years. We're very lucky to have him and recently he's been criminally under rated by quite a few on the Caf.

Gosh. If he adds strength, he could be immense. He's still a little scared of a tussle and tends to back off from challenging in a physical duel. But once he bulks (the right amount) up, I have no doubt, he can become a world beater.

Hope people don't give up on him like they have with Anthony. They both deserve our full support.

He enjoyed every minute of it today. Was relaxed and I think Chelsea's defenders will have nightmares about him tonight.

I think this is the game that might be a turning point in his career. He proved he's good enough to lead the line, and his link-up with Lingard was very good. He just needs another good, speedy striker to play alongside him (Mbappe ).

Hope he isn't played as a winger unless our hand is forced.

Replace Zlatan with Griezmann, pair him with Rashford/Martial and play a diamond; Mata or Mkhitaryan at #10, Pogba in his Juve left of a three, Herrera right and a proper anchor man sitting and dropping into a back 3 when in possession, allowing both fullbacks, ideally Shaw and Valencia, to provide the width.

Jose used the system at Porto so it isn't behind him.

That goal last weekend has done wonders for his confidence, him and Lingard linked up fantastically well up top today. Chelsea defence could not handle them.

Self-less. Great perfomance. Shame he didnt score when he twated Luiz.

The way he shrugged him off…

Rashford and Martial in attacking duo

Another season or two of experience and 5-10 pounds of muscle and he will be a nightmare to play against.

Couldnt watch the match but extremely happy for him! People were starting to call him non-talented and just a speed-merchant. The guy can be a star in a few years time.

I dont think thats ever been a popular narrative.

Many including myself have argued that we should not be dependent on a 19 year old rookie to win us games, and that SAF had far greater attacking resources at his disposal. Rashford should be 4th choice in a 4some striker unit. He has plenty of talent, but has too much responsibility right now.

Todays excellent performance does not change that. I'd prefer that he gets himself an excellent loan or is contained to 20 or so games (cups and rotation) where is he play in his preferred CF position for next season. As opposed to the 43 appearances he has made this year.

All that being said, today was a special day for him. Felt like a mental promotion for him, in FM language, he graduated from Youth Player to Hot Prospect! We need to remember this, is is still just a Hot Prospect.

And also those "pace is overrated for a striker" comments. Just ridiculous.

Didnt say it was a popular narrative but more and more people were calling him untalented, overhyped etc which is unfair to me. Still a talent but has potential to be special.

Spot on. Delighted with him today after a pretty tough season for him, but let's not go overboard here with the hyperbole (that goes both ways). Hes clearly talented, but suddenly appointing him our savior after one great game is doing the lad no favors.

Ideally i would want Zlatan here another year, first for his contributions on the field, but more importantly because i believe he still has a lot he can teach Rashford, Martial and the other young lads.

one thing that was class that might of gone unnoticed was his movement on the Ander goal, as Ander strikes it there is only one player moving towards the goal looking for a tap in or deflection and it was Rashford, no Chelsea defenders or any other united player were making a move, that instinct cant be taught

Loved his celebration i.e. not much of one.

He meant business right from the off.

That was one of the most mature performances I've seen from Marcus. He hasn't had an awful lot of chances obviously, but it's hard to deny that he's still growing immensely as a player after his display today. It bodes very well for the future.
